The sun was shiny brightly, but the air was cold. Winter had come, the stallion was able to see his breath in the air... His lantern's light was out for the day. No need for it, and he knew the darker area's well enough too.
But today something different was going to happen. He sensed it, and he was watching vigilantly for it. It didn't feel bad, but it was something different. The large horse quietly moved along the path near the base of the mountain. He had gone east of the village, he hadn't been in the area in a while.

 "Burrrrrrrr! What a nippy morning!" Atzi tucked her wings around herself tight. She was debating weather or not to get her two-legger, Pan, to help put her head dress on. Looking down, she noticed the foot prints of her human walking towards the village. "I guess that won't be happening." She said with a sigh. " I'll have to go warm up on my own!" Atzi stretched her back, trotted on the spot for a few seconds. Her tummy grumbled. "Hmmmmm yes yes I know we should go find food too. Atzi loved food. Pan always told her she would eat them out of teepee and home. Atzi smirked with the thought. "Alright tummy lets go find something to snack on!" She walked a little ways, stopped, sniffed and snorted at the ground. Dug a bit with her hoof to try and get at a tuber she loved "The ground is so hard!" She whined and her eyes teared up. This was Atzi's first real winter. So far she was not enjoying it.

Lutra kept on walking, and it wasn't to long until he heard the sounds of another horse. He looked over a bush and saw a mare pawing at the ground, and he tilted his head. She seemed rather upset... So he pushed his way through, talking around the lanterns handle.
"Is everything okay miss?" His voice was smooth and caring. He didn't like seeing anyone upset. But with further inspection he could tell that she must have lived in the area. A teepee peaking out just behind her.

Taken a back by the sudden appearance of another, Atzi jolted behind the nearest tree. She wasn't use to being caught off guard. She blamed her hunger for distracting her.
Slowly she peeped out around the ice covered tree, her hair was a mess and covered most of her face. "Ah urm...hello..." She squished her mouth up and blew the hair it out of her eyes.
"Everything is...FINE...yes." She nodded and glanced at her digging spot. "You're not here to take my delicious tubers are you?" She eyed him suspiciously, lingering over the object in his mouth. She never seen something like that before so she was uncertain. Atzi puffed herself up ready to defend the food she knew was in the ground but could not reach.

Lutra looked over at her, as she skittered off and hid behind a tree. He must have scared her... Well he certainly didn't mean too. "Tubers...? Of course not. I just happen to be walking by, and thought I would ask if you needed help." He offered a slight smile around the lantern and then looked at the spot where she was digging. He wondered if tubers were those brownish read things that wiggled.
"I didn't mean to frighten you like I did. I'm very sorry."

Atzi deflated like a squashed puffer fish. Now she was embarrassed. "I'm sorry also for accusing you of being a hooligan." She smirked as a strand of hair fell down across her face. This is why she enjoyed wearing her headdress.
"I'm not really in need of help," She paused, rooted at the ground and huffed. "Well maybe a little help wouldn't hurt." Atzi didn't like feeling so helpless. "The darn cold weather has made the ground so hard to dig in."
"So have you had tubers before? They are quite yummy! My human cooks them up for herself but I prefer them raw..." She trailed off for a moment. "What's that in your mount?" She cocked her head to the side to examine it some more. It was very pretty looking yet the material looked so odd. "Is that heavy?" Atzi bombarded her new company with questions. She was a curious individual.

"I can't say that I have... What exactly are they?" He looked at her curious, and then down at the ground. But before he was able to get this answer, the mare had switched topics to his lantern.
"Oh this is my lantern. The two leggers gave it to me. So when I walk at night, they have light." He smiled some. He didn't only guide two leggers, he also walked other horses, or picked up those that got lost.
Lutra lowered her head, and placed the lantern on the ground. "It's not to heavy, for me. I've gotten use to it. Go ahead and take a look."

Atzi made her way over to lantern boy, sniffed at the object on the ground, gripped it with her mouth and slowly lifted it. Muffled she said. "Dis surrly is uncomffftable...I'd die if I had to curry dis around...Pan says I talk toOo mush." She giggled and layed the lamp back down."There that's better." She adjusted her mouth some.
"So ya wanna know about tubers eh?" Atzi pranced back to her digging spot. "They are the stem of plants but like underground...hmmm a carrot! That's what the humans call them and I'm pretty sure there's one in there. Surly you have had one of those, yes?" She looked at him with eyes wide.

Lutra watched her as she picked it up. She wasn't able to speak around it like he was. But it was cute regardless. She had gotten so use to it, he forgot how awkward it was when he first started carrying it. But he side stepped the lantern to watch her. Tubers were carrots? "Yes of course I've had carrots." He smiled at her. He enjoyed them actually. But would there really be just one out there? It was possible, but not overly likely. The two legger gardens were usually protected.
Maybe seeds got carried by the wind. "I guess the ground is a bit hard for digging?"

Atzi giggled. "Care to help me?" She flexed her wings in excitement. " The dead and squishy greenery here on the ground looks like the top of a carrot...not sure how good it will be if we can get it out." She laughed.
"SoOoooooo I never got your name did I?" She grinned and moved out of the way for the stallion.

Lutra gave a nod, and he made his way over. Kicking around the area were the carrot would be. He wasn't all to sure if this was the best method either... But she seemed like she knew what she was doing. The ground was indeed hard and it certainly took him some take to start showing results.
"My name? I'm Lutra, how about you?" He asked, glancing up from the ground to make eye contact with her. He was glad she was friendly, and curious. It was usually a good combination. Then without warning, he had started to finally unearth what he was digging at.

Atzi watched as he dug and he seemed to be good at it. It was probably where he was stronger than her; it took little effort. "That's a pretty unique name," She smiled, "They call me Atzi." She tucked her wings back and curtsied. "Oh you got it!" She excitedly exclaimed. She looked down at the pale, shriveled vegetable. "Hmm...it doesn't look too good!" She laughed.

Lutra blinked at her. "You have a rather unique name yourself." He commented. It was a nice name though regardless, and it seemed like it fit her really well too. "Oh... Yeah it looks rather... Lacking nourishment. I'm not to sure that you should eat it..." it was pale, and carrots had an orange color.

The sun was getting close to being high in the sky. A couple hours have passed since she first adventured out of her cave.
"AT-ZEeee...well I guess my name is unique or err odd, tis kinda funny sounding eh?" She giggled. Why was she giggling so much?
"Well Lutra I don't think that carrot is edible." She poked at it with her hoof as if it might squirm. She sighed. All this work for nothing.
Atzi looks around at all the snow that fell, turning her back to the stallion. A gust of wind rustles the branches above, dropping a lump of snow down upon her head.

When the snow fell on the mares head, Lutra opened his mouth as if to say watch out, but nothing came out. He giggled some, hoping to not offend her. He walked over and leaned down to nose the snow off her head carefully. "Bet that was cold."
"If you want, we can find some of the carrots the two leggers have? Or do you need them from the ground?" He wondered if there was much of a difference... Though he liked the ones the two leggers gave him.
