Tallulah was wildly unproductive (from an academic point of view) the day after her trip to space. She couldn't sit still in any of her classes and spent all of study hall googling a strange combination of Art Nouveau architecture and astronomy pictures, which left her classmates muttering that Cowden had finally gone off the deep end but only made her more curious about last night's adventure.

As soon as her parents had gone to bed, at that magic hour of the night when all across town senshi were sneaking out of their bedroom windows to do battle with the forces of evil, she henshined up and climbed carefully over the rose bushes. She needed to talk to someone - another senshi, to tell them what she'd seen. Jaimie? No, she didn't feel safe sneaking into Hillworth at this time of night, and especially if he had a new roommate (which she wasn't sure, but thought he might.) Bell and Xavier and most of her team would be out on patrol, which left...

A much more local, obvious answer.

"Pasha," hissed Sailor Europa, rapping on her friend's window. "Pasha, wake up and let me in- I know you're grounded from senshi stuff, but this doesn't involve leaving the house!"

Well, sort of - they'd teleport right back to where they'd started, wouldn't they? And Kurma had told them to teach the other senshi how to do it - this was practically her obligation as team captain!

Europa tapped the window again, louder. "Pasha!"

There was rarely anything for Pasha to do once he'd finished his homework. He'd recently picked up his hobby of stringing together bracelets and necklaces again; they were always horrendously tacky, but they passed the time quite nicely.

On this particular night, he'd wasted an hour or two playing dress-up. As a result, he currently wore an ensemble of a short, lacy pink party dress as a shirt, candy leggings, shorts, mismatched gloves, a hat out of the 20's, boots with buckles, and way too many pony bead necklaces (some of which were glowing in the very dim light of the room). He was in the process of creating yet another necklace to add when he heard a strange noise outside his window - it didn't sound like Abel this time.

When he opened his window, his eyes lit up.

"Tal-...Europa! Hi!" He waved frantically, one of the gloves slipping slightly off. "Are you sure it doesn't? It's not noisy or anything, is it? I think they'd know I was up to something if things got really noisy. And they might get mad you're here..." As he spoke, he busied himself by hauling his little body up onto the windowsill.

Europa raised an eyebrow at Pasha's curious ensemble, but didn't comment. She knew from experience that he was a boy of interesting tastes, and it was charming. "You're going to need your pen and your cell phone," she grinned, climbing through the window and perching herself on the end of the bed. Sailor Pyxis was about to come out of retirement in a big way.

She grinned at him while he went to get the requested items. "Pasha, Pasha, you are never going to believe where I went last night."

She didn't give him time to guess. "Pasha, I went to space."

Or had taken potent hallucinogenics. It was debatable. "This guy Kurma showed a bunch of us how to do it. You have to henshin up and dial the universe. Well, not the universe, it's complicated - you have to listen to the universe, and then your star will call to you, and you answer - I don't want to think about how the cats are paying for long distance on this. Henshin up and I'll show you."

Pen and cell phone...Pasha had been very careful when it came to any of his Very Important Items, but they'd fallen into disuse as of late, thanks to his fear that his parents might realize something was up. He hmmed as he rummaged through his backpack, where he pulled out a little diary with a cat on front. Shaking it produced a key from its pages, which he then used to unlock the top drawer of his desk. The cell phone (decorated, despite Astraea's comments on the idea) and pen were in tow as he returned to her, just in time to hear about his travels.

"You...what!" He had to put both "daintily" gloved hands over his mouth to quiet himself as a barely audible eeeeeeeeeeeeeee slipped out. SPACE?! This was easily the coolest part of being a Senshi!

Though he hated to lose his fantastic outfit, he did as requested, enduring the transformation that couldn't happen quickly enough. His fingers ran over the hem of the uniform for a fleeting moment - it was hard to get used to his again! - before he returned his attention to Europa, cell phone extended towards her.

"Oooh, tell me the Universe's number, pleasepleaseplease! I promise to follow all of the rules and everything!"

He probably should have asked about "this guy Kurma" and what exactly had happened, but that could wait a little bit. Space awaited him!

Europa clapped her hands and smiled at the sight of her first and favorite senshi-buddy. And by the looks of it, he'd gotten an upgrade! It suited him, she thought. She rather liked the sash, even if Pyxis still looked indisputably like a girl. "Calm down," she giggled - his enthusiasm was infectious, and she was already excited as it was. "I'm not quite sure how it all works just yet, I've got more experimenting I want to do, but I think I should hang onto you when you dial - I mean, I don't even know if we can take other people with us when we go but it's worth a try. It works in Harry Potter."

Which would be a good guess, if this was anything like Harry Potter. Which it wasn't. Still, Europa placed a hand around Pyxis's wrist. "You've gotta be quiet," she whispered. "Close your eyes and concentrate until you hear the universe singing, and then find the part that sings just for you."

That was how Kurma had taught them, anyway. She'd tried to listen again earlier and managed to get as far as hearing the tune, but trying to focus in had just made her dizzy. At the time, she'd just chalked it up to lack of sleep, and now, two cans of Ener-TEA later, Europa was feeling giddy and wide awake and ready to go.

She closed her eyes, then opened one to glance at Pyxis. "And when you've got the note, you dial it into your cell phone. It's instinct, or something like it. We all did it with our eyes closed, I think."

A pause. Europa closed her eyes again. "You ready?"

It took a great amount of willpower for Pyxis to settle down and really listen to Europa again, carefully taking in everything she said. This stuff seemed really important, like most other Senshi information, and he didn't want to mess it up and ruin his chances of getting into space.

"Well, we've got magic stuff too, so maybe it'll be just the same!" He sure hoped so - space might get overwhelming with all of its huge awesomeness, and it would help to have not only a friend, but a fellow Senshi (and space traveler) along with him. He held onto her hand and took a deep breath, admittedly nervous. Concentrating wasn't his strong point, and if this went wrong...

The sounds of insects and the occasional passing car faded away as he eased into a more relaxed state. The fingers holding Europa's hand stopped shaking with anticipation, now simply flexing with every deep breath he took.

When he finally heard it, it startled him; he jumped just slightly, exhaled, and continued to listen. The music started gentle chimes before growing louder and louder, like an excited parade that might lead him home to a big welcome party. The song reminded him a lot of chasing bugs; of the firefly lights that guided him. It seemed to tug on him, little hands grabbing at something in his soul, and he didn't want to tell them 'no'.

Before he had any idea what was happening, they were snuggled into a cloud of dust. Pyxis couldn't speak, eyes wide at the sight.

Framed by millions of shimmering stars were several large clouds, all purples and magentas and blues, seemingly identical to the one upon which they stood. They looked almost as if they were occasionally dripping, he noted, as the dust on the bottoms of the clouds floated into the depths of space. The clouds were all linked with a translucent film, like faintly rainbowed bridges leading them from place to place. Though still shimmering with a hint of color, the 'roads' definitely looked as if they might have been brighter at some point long, long ago. Faint lights bathed them in blues before quickly fading away again with dull hums. Structures that appeared to be buildings - dwellings? - stood in the distance. Some were dangerously close to the edges of the slowly deteriorating clouds, seeming to imply that the clouds were once much larger. A few crumbled pillars, statues, and what looked like a small, dead garden sat behind them. It was all very beautiful, compared to Earth, but something about it seemed so sad. And next to Pyxis and his bright colors, it was significantly dulled.

"Where....?" he murmured, voice trembling.

Europa opened her eyes and looked around, blinking back stars. This was... certainly very different from where she'd gone. But then Pyxis was a constellation, wasn't it? Figured it wouldn't be like her moon. And all the color everywhere, she could see how Pasha could have come from a place like this. "I think this is Pyxis," she said. She hadn't really tested out yet if you could wind up somewhere else on accident, but this certainly looked right enough.

"Pasha," she whispered, "Pasha, it's beautiful..."

It was, really. While Europa had just been an arctic plateau of sorts, this was something truly unimaginable and magical - how extreme could the senshi worlds get? She glanced back at her friend and frowned.

"Why are you- are you sad?" she asked in confusion. She glanced back at the crumbling pillars, and then to her friend once more. No, she didn't think he was sad - it was just strange to see Pasha without his characteristic grin.

"Mine was empty and abandoned, too," she said quietly, taking his hand. "But, um, how about we go see what there is to see here?"
PostPosted: Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:01 pm

"Pyxis," he said, voice still very quiet. It was odd to use the name for the actual constellation, for home, instead of taking the name as his own. As he spoke its name, he smiled; he felt a little warmer. He felt right.

He shifted his feet, watching the dust slowly curl around his bright shoes. It moved so slowly, as if they were underwater, but had a similar consistency to real dust. Pyxis liked to think that it was like pixie dust - Pyxis dust, in this case!

"I only dreamed of places like this! I didn't think...wow!" This time, his commentary was a bit more fitting of a typical Pasha-esque personality. Though he was still awed, the excitement was beginning to seep in again. "It is beautiful! Like...the stuff people make pictures of!" Spoken with true eloquence. He squinted his eyes, the stars blurring, and continued. "It's kind of like marshmallow cereal," he stated, very matter-of-fact.

It wasn't until Europa's mention of sadness that he realized the origin of the strange feeling that threatened to push his excitement away. Something was very melancholy, especially considering this was his real home. To know that it was abandoned, that nobody else was here, that everyone else had...

"Yours? Europa? Europa was deserted too? What happened to everyone?" He squeezed her hand and tugged her towards the closest bridge, wondering what made him immediately assume that there had been others here at one point. Surely there had to be...? "Maybe we'll find some magic stuff!" Well, he could hope. It would be pretty neat to bring Abel a present, after all.

"I don't know, it looked like - I only saw a little bit of it, two hours isn't enough to explore an entire moon - but it looked like everyone had just picked up and left." She shook her head and forced herself to smile. There was no reason to rain on Pasha's parade! If he wanted to explore, then by Jove, they were going to explore!

She followed him onto the bridge, peering over the side into the starry depths below, and said, "I'll take you there sometime, the view is amazing. Jupiter's right overhead and it's got the coldest, clearest night sky you've ever seen!"

"Maybe we will!" she added optimistically. She'd managed to bring some beads home with her from Europa - in such a short, singular visit she hadn't been able to test the limits of what you could take, but small things seemed to work well. "I bet whoever used to live here left some cool stuff behind."

Remembering her own brief flashes of memory on Europa, she said, "Hey, tell me if you see anything weird. Like if things look a way they aren't."

Pyxis almost protested that moons were not that big, but he (thankfully) realized how silly it would be to say such a thing. Of course they didn't look big compared to other planets, but they were probably huge compared to another person.

"I'd like to go! It sounds fun to explore something so gigantimous. And maybe we could find out more stuff when we go together."

Reaching the end of the cloud, he stopped abruptly. The bridge looked like it was meant to support people, but he wasn't really sure if they could walk across. Though he was worried that they might fall to a terrible space-death, he took the first step, watching the colors ripple beneath his feet. It was faintly like the sheen of oil on a puddle.

"Wooooah." He stepped back and tried it again, resulting in the same effect. "Look, look! We can make cool things happen!" Laughing, he released her hand and skipped along the path, leaving faint little rainbow explosions in his wake. If there were ever any question that this was truly his home, the answer was now pretty clear.

"What do you mean, look the way they aren't? How could I tell that? Like, if it's make-believe compared to real stuff or something?" This was a weird concept. Though he briefly considered it, his mind wandered back to the neat stuff that he might find.

"Something like that," nodded Europa. "Tell me if you see things that aren't really now." What she'd seen on her moon - did those kinds of flashbacks happen to everyone? It had only been a day, she hadn't had a chance to confer with the other Basterds yet, so this would have to be a test run.

She jogged to catch up with him, marveling at the splashes of color that appeared beneath their feet. Was it because this was a constellation, that it was more abstract? Her senses told her this was real, and yet it seemed far stranger to her than walking around spacesuit-less on a world you could see through a telescope. Still, senshidom granted suspension of disbelief to a ridiculous degree.

"Maybe we should check out some of the ruins?" she suggested, coming up alongside Pyxis. She didn't know what they might find if they went towards the building - would it be like what she'd found? Would there be anything there at all? "I mean, if you want souvenirs," she added, "I think they might be the way to go?"

She gazed around, trying to pick details out of the landscape - how long did these clouds go on for? Could you walk the entire kingdom of Pyxis in a day? But then - the constellation was lightyears across - were the distances here the same? She had so many questions, and really no good ways of getting answers.

Europa turned to Pyxis. "But really, it's up to you - where do you want to go?"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 03, 2010 7:01 pm

Pyxis tried to imagine an experience in which he saw something that wasn't really "now", and figured that it would be a lot like a dream. He didn't think he'd mind dreaming in real life - lately, his dreams had been pretty great. As long as they weren't like Tartaros again...

"The ruins sound nice!" He frowned. No, 'nice' was not a really good word to use when describing the ruins of something that once was. "Well. Nice to explore, I mean. They don't look so nice, I guess." He had barely finished his sentence when he ducked into one of the crumbling buildings, where he glanced around at the dust-covered interior. He could make out a table, several boxes that looked like they might become dust too if he touched them, and a small cup and container of some kind of liquid.

Without thinking, he reached to snatch up the liquid, realizing only when he had it in his palm that it might have broken and exposed him to something terrible. Thankfully, it spared him.

"Hm, weird," was his only analysis of the vessel. "We probably shouldn't drink this. It's space juice."

"Did you find cool stuff?" he asked, holding the little bottle out for Europa to see.

Europa had been trying her hardest to keep her hands to herself - things here seemed awfully fragile, and she'd never forgive herself if she broke anything that turned out to be important to Pyxis later. While here and there a little trinket in the dust managed to catch her eye, she hadn't picked up anything in particular.

"No, nothing yet," she said, shaking her head and stepping closer to look at the bottle. Experience made her wary of drinking from unmarked potions (last time she'd done something dumb like that, she'd died and it was only dumb luck and dream logic that had saved her), but it was still interesting.

"Yeah," she agreed. "We probably shouldn't - at least not until we can test it out and see if it's safe." Not that she had any plans on how to test it - Europa was strictly opposed to animal cruelty, and feeding alien substances to housecats, mice, or pigeons was certainly questionable behavior. (And on TV, tended to give them alien powers.)

"Let's take it back with us, though," she said reassuringly. "And maybe keep looking? Outside."

The derelict condition of the building made her kind of nervous.
