Dawn broke over the quiet forest, shedding the first rays of day's first light on the wakening inhabitants. As the creatures of the night withdrew to their dens, beings of the light emerged from their shelters to begin anew.

Amidst the last of autumn's fallen leaves lay a resplendent mare, crimson eyes half-lidded in bliss. Her wings tucked neatly at her side, she gazed peacefully at the robust trunks of nearby oaks... so stunning, illuminated by the tranquil morning.

... beauty could often be found in unexpected places. The gnarled oak that reached its crooked branches towards a pale azure sky held strength and steadfast endurance within its twisted bark; qualities worthy of admiration, a spirit and essence of breathtaking magnificence. Even the soil that surrounded its roots... that, too, nature's work of art.

Who would look to such standard commodities and think Wonderful... Stunning. Exquisite. ? Thought conjured not out of disbelief or perplexity, but sheer admiration?

The benevolent mare, with brittle leaves caught in her luscious golden hair.

Cain felt exhausted. The light was spreading over the land and waking all manner of creature. He only wished that he had been asleep to enjoy the same warm awakening. Unfortunately for the dark stallion when the sun had set for the evening he had not managed to lull himself into sleep. Instead he had tossed and turned inside his mind until somewhere between then and now, in the inky blackness of night, he had given up and taken to wandering.

If he had been his brother he likely wouldn't have taken two steps before getting assaulted by curious inquiries from his mother and sister as to where he was going. However, he was most assuredly not his brother. He'd left and his sister had not so much as twitched as he walked by. He greatly envied his brother for being loved so dearly even though Karius claimed that it was unpleasant. Cain still wanted it more than anything.

It was thoughts like these that kept him from slumber for so many nights. At the time, however, they didn't seem to be enough to keep him awake. He could feel his eyes drooping and his steps were growing uneven. He wagered that if he were to stop he would drift off in a matter of seconds. Actually that wasn't a bad idea was it? With little hesitation he stopped his wandering feet and did a quick check of the surrounding area to be sure that he was alone. But there was a problem...he wasn't alone at all.

He could see her, standing amidst the bare trees against a backdrop of a leafy, brightly colored carpet and pale sky. A mare that even the heavens themselves must have been jealous of. He stared blankly at her as his feet seemed to creep closer on their own accord. She was lovely. So beautiful that he could not take his eyes off of her. One as fair as she should never be alone and yet she was. Clearly this was a sign.

The placid mare stood in quiet contemplation for a few moments longer before her eyes began to wander. The natural world held so many wonders...

Would she ever tire of them?

With the constant renewal, eternal evolution of organic structures... ah, she could spend her life in the perpetual paradise of her everyday existence.

The most pronounced difference between her clamoring sister and herself: she could linger in reticent tranquility, satisfied merely to observe, whereas the spirited eldest sought always to be a part of the action.
There was a time when their roles were reversed... though her explorations were fueled by immaculate curiosity. Despite her pure intentions, there were times when she encountered unsavory... predicaments.

Her nomadic thoughts drifting through fond, and at times virulent, memories, she barely noticed the night-touched figure poised nearby.

Yet was her solitary reality any way to spend her life? Her sisters had long since found constant companionship...

... A deepening of the shadows, a silhouette framed with radiance...

Swaying gracefully on her delicate hooves, she turned towards the obscure form, a welcoming smile teasing at the corners of her lips... un-deterred by the brief flicker of apprehensive self-preservation that would pause a more wary individual. A non-existant flicker, in her case; she would never suspect ill intentions until they were upon her.

Welcome...

It felt as though his heart had stopped beating for the briefest of moments. She had noticed him and not only that but she had smiled. She had smiled at him. Not turned away. Not smiled past him. No, she smiled at him. If he hadn't been convinced before he was now, this was meant to be for certain.

He willed his feet to move again until he was out of the shadowy covering the trees had been providing him with and in the light of the dawn. The closer he got the stranger he seemed to feel. His wings twitched lightly at his sides as a small shiver ran down the length of his spine. He stopped at the strange sensation, only a couple lengths away from the mare and barely a foot out of his earlier cover, and continued his staring.

His bright golden eyes ran over her body at dizzying speeds, it was so much that he thought he may even faint. He didn't, he wouldn't allow himself to. It was just there was so much of her to see. The tiny flecks of white that resembled stars, the beautiful feathers that captured all the colors of a setting sun, hair mane, her tail! It all left his head spinning. To think that such a perfect creature had existed without him knowing about it.

It was settled. He knew what the feeling he was experiencing was. "I love you..." He murmured.

Her eyes twinkled in merriment. What pleasure, to have company on such a fine day!

She waited in silent rapport as this new friend surveyed her, lingering obligingly through his careful inspection with a sincere smile.
She was accustomed to such appraisal, though she did not return the preoccupation with aesthetic manifestations. Vanity was a foreign affliction to this exemplary mare.

I love you.

His murmur, barely audible from that distance... had she heard correctly? His instant affections, conveyed with such burning veracity? This ebony being, his mane radiant halo crowning a noble frame? She knew naught of his character, yet...
Perhaps... wishful thinking?

"Good morning..." her voice was a soft, sighing caress, her tone an intricate melody.

"I am called Shinyun." An open invitation to let his own name be known, a quiet acquiescence amiable courtesy... yet if he were to decide against letting his name be known, there would be no lapse in etiquette; after all, she had posed no direct question.

He shivered once again as the lovely creature spoke. Even her voice was heaven sent! If a voice had been a tangible thing he would have taken hold of it and never let it go. Much to his dismay it was not and he had to be content to let it wash over him once and then again as she gave her name. Shinyun. How exotic. In a breath he tested her name quietly. It rolled off the tongue easily. "Shinyun..." He said again albeit louder. If a name had a taste he imagined her's would be sweet with spice like cinnamon.

He wished for her voice to break the silence once more and ring out in his ears. But it didn't. Instead he stood quietly wondering just what to do. If he was his sister his wings would have already found their way over her back possessively. For the better or the worse he was not like his sister and while the temptation to do just such a thing was strong, he resisted.

Not knowing what else could be done in moments like these he settled for looking his eyes on her with determination waiting for the appropriate impulse to take him.
