Life was hard. No. It was beyond hard -- it was lonesome and painful and it made Tavarii wish he was someplace, anyplace, else. He'd had it all -- a "sister" who mocked him and a couple of teepee-mates, although some weren't the friendliest of creatures. He'd left it behind for young and reckless love with the girl, who he thought, was the girl of his dreams. His Angel... Think again. Tav shook his head at the thought of Carmine, his angel who he couldn't tie down, not that he'd wanted to... But still he would've liked her to...stay. Be his. They'd been too young, he'd been foolish. He loved feathers, but a winged mare's heart would never be locked on the ground and who was he to demand it? He'd lost his two Wind-born daughters as well. And now he'd lost Lani. He hadn't seen her in a long while, but the mated life was treating her and her mate, Basil, well. Last he heard, she was carrying foal. With a heavy-hearted sigh, Tavarii knew he needed someone. Anyone. To get him out of this goddamn rut and into the real world. Even if it was just a spark... Maybe it would be enough to ignite the fire in his heart and make him live, truly live, again... Someday...

She wasnt alone. She had herself and that was really all the female really needed. She was a solitary girl, one that could survive on her own. She didnt need love. She didnt need companionship, and she certainly didnt need a man to be happy. She smiled inwardly at the thought of being so self-sufficient. Not all mares could say that. In fact, she'd met a few lovey dovey females that had just made her bristle. Why would you want to be in love? It made you vulnerable..
Of course..It gave you someone to dote on you. Thats what she would want. If she had someone. She wanted someone to dote on her and do as she wanted. She was certainly a vain female, flashy as the tiger on her pelt. She couldnt help herself, she knew she was pretty.
However she had a temper, and was usually in a bitter mood. She didnt have much to be happy for after all, other than her life. She was not one to be happy she was beautiful. With the life she lead, she didnt need to be beautiful.
But she stepped out from her darkened cave, and ventured out into the night. She hoped she would find something.. something to eat. She preferred fish honestly, having the sharp teeth that could chew them. But she wasnt bad off with grass..that was always an option.

Tavarii was near a set of caves -- he could hear the cool springs running through them, clear against the night's air which was crisp with the coming winter. He took a deep breath, breathing in icy air and letting out a puff of warmth through his nostrils. He dipped his head, lipping at the grasses, but they tasted bland, without their usual splendor.
He wondered for the millionth time how Lani was. How she was faring. The last time he'd seen her, was when she was introducing her lifemate, Basil, and she was round with foal. He wondered if he had grandsons or granddaughters, or perhaps one of each. This thought made him both happy and sad inside -- happy that his baby girl had found someone, even someone with wings, willing to settle down on the ground with her... and sad because let's face it, he wasn't -that- old. Already a grandpa.
He heard the shuffling step of hoofbeats and glanced up, suddenly wary. He wasn't sure if kalona roamed this area, but he wasn't keen on finding out. Putting on his best bold voice, he announced in a husky tone: "Who's out there? Show yourself!"

Bah. Someone had heard her before she had heard them. So rather than being able to spy, she was being called out. She grumbled with a bit of asigh. How could she have been so dumb? She shook her head and swiveled her ears.
She certainly wasnt going to just..out herself. She needed to see who it is, or what it was. She too, knew Kalona were around the area. Not that she feared them really, but caution was something to be used well around here.
She looked at the stallion from behind a darkened tree. She smiled appreciatively. Hes no kalona and that helped her. She stepped from the tree and looked at the new guy. He was cute.. Though she could appreciate his attractiveness, she was not interested in much. She wouldnt have even stepped out had he not called her.
"Ive shown myself, now I demand you tell me your name." She said. She wanted to know who was coming close to her home.

Tavarii wasn't expecting a female's voice, but that's what he heard. His step faltered, ears pinning back for the briefest of moments. He should really get out of here, before something bad happened... Bad like him falling for another winged angel, only to get his duct-taped heart broken once again. Besides, she sounded bossy. He set his mind -- and his heart -- against thinking she was beautiful.
But as she stepped out of the shadows, the moonlight playing across her tiger-stained pelt...it took his breath away. He cursed himself inwardly, but now his curiosity was piqued.
He took a deep breath, then let it out again. "I...I wasn't expecting a mare, to be honest," he admitted softly, a bit of a sheepish laugh to his voice. "Would you consider me silly if I said I thought you would be kalona?" Then her words dawned on him: a name. She wanted a name. "I'm Tavarii." Goof. His angel's words etched into his mind and he stamped a hoof, then realized he'd look like a fool and settled himself. "Just Tavarii."

So he feared Kalona too. Well he was smart at least. He knew the area so that meant he came around a few times. She had never seen him before, though, and so she wondered if it was around her den that he came. But she shrugged it off when he spoke his name.
"No.. I guess not, seeing as Kalona are quite frequent in this area. Youre smart to fear them."
She replied, her tone even and level. She wasnt a mean girl, but she certainly could play the bossy dominant role. She was usually the man in the relationships she carried. She preferred to be the one that did the choosing of what went on.
"Okay, Just Tavarii. Pleasure to meet you." She said, though she really wasnt impressed and pleased to meet anyone usually. She looked him over, narrowed her eyes, but gave her own name.
Against her better judgement..She had no idea she would fall for this stallion eventually.
"Im Tigeris. Just, Tigeris."

Tav's stiff pose softened a little. He stepped a little closer -- baby steps, he reminded himself -- and offered a wary smile. She was beautiful, true... But Carmine had been too. For once, he was relieved that this mare didn't have wings. Winds were not good to lust over. Wait, what? He shook his head, giving the softest of snorts. No. He wasn't going to lust over -anyone-. Man, he'd been alone for too long.
Still, he said the dumbest thing he'd said in awhile, "Pleasure's all mine," complete with trademark, goof-ball grin. His violet eyes watched her. Tigeris. Tigeris and Tavarii. Not bad. Not bad at all... He caught himself mid-thought and sighed. "Perhaps it would've been better had you been kalona," he murmured. At least then she would've been inattainable. Not that he wanted her, he just...wanted -someone- and was grasping at straws. What if he never met another mare? What if he died tomorrow? What ifs sucked, they really did.
Now what?

She noticed his muscles relax and her own did as well. Though her cool demeanor didnt weaken. She was a very.. guarded sort. She had always lived alone, since her basket till now. She had been strong before and she would be now too. She looked at him when he stepped closer and raised an eyebrow. She wasnt sure if she liked him that close but she held her ground. Might as well try to be somewhat social..
"Im sure." She said, looking him over. He was lucky he was handsome. Because she had been known to rip into males who came too close. She supposed she just wanted to make sure that she stayed single. That she would stay safe.
"What was that? Do you really think Id be better as a kalona? I take that offensively. Those beasts are truly primal. I like to think I have more class." She shook her head and looked him in the eyes.
"So, Just Tavarrii. What are you doing out here?"

He watched her through solemn violet eyes, taking in the scowl on her face that showed teeth -- she was part -something- but it didn't seem to matter; though she seemed...uncomfortable around him, she held her ground. She was brave and bold and -- "Uh..." Crap. He'd just compared her, verbally, to being worse than a kalona. "I just...uh..." Shaking his head, he backed away slowly. "I didn't mean anything by it...it's just...nevermind." With a heavy-hearted sigh, he was sure he'd just ******** any (unlikely) possible chance he had with her. "I was just out for a walk." Far, far away from home. "A walk I've been on for several months now. What about you? You live around here?"
