exclaim SO YOU WANNA BE AN ARTIST? exclaim What does an artist do?:- ALL ARTISTS are on a part-time rotation. This makes everyone's life easier. What does this mean? - You are only required to do ONE stage of art per student. You are NOT responsible for a student's second or third year! - There will be some artwork required for fellow staff, shop patrons, and actual larger events. This is a must however the workload is roughly 2-3 students a month. If you can do more, this is a huge bonus for everyone! - You MUST have photoshop, painter, or illustrator (or some similar program like OC or SAI). Sorry, scanned in pencil works or other real-life media are not what we are looking for at this moment. - You MUST know how to draw, line, and colour from ORIGINAL sketches. No tracing, no templates, nothing. You can be as creative as you want with premades, but make sure to follow the guidelines set to you for character customs. - When creating students, artists must follow TiH's Colorist Guidelines: Student Guidelines
Keep everything humanoid or slightly anthro. Davinica is an excellent example of an acceptable anthro.
This means NO centaurs, mermaid tails, driders, or anything that is NOT a biped.
Nothing really large, nothing really tiny. Gargantuan is a good example of an acceptable large student, and Chuppi/Temes is an example of an acceptable small student.
No extra limbs. Maximum of two arms two legs per student. It is a-okay for a student to have missing arms/limbs or a detachable head.
As far as accessories go: wings, feathered arms/legs, scales, head crests, spines, horns and tails are all okay. Ask yourself this: DOES IT STILL LOOK LIKE A HUMANOID STUDENT? DOES IT MAKE SENSE FOR THIS RACE TO HAVE THIS DOODAD? If the answers to both are "yes," then it's a-okay.
Please keep the face as "humanoid" as possible. Pseudo anthro is fine. Full on werewolf anthro giant hulking figure that spans 10 feet tall, not so much. Davinica is once again an excellent example.
If the student is gelatinous, try to make them LOOK jello-y ie: dripping limbs and such and not like.. a giant puddle. Again the point of the exercise is to keep them as humanoid as possible, giving the shop a uniform look.
All art is preferrably cellshaded, no airbrush spam shading please! Uncoloured line quality is favoured but not required.
All students should wear a skull-shaped lapel pin, you can put it anywhere you want. THIS IS REQUIRED.
Unless approved by admin, first year should all look 'young'.

GM stands for Game Moderator.
GMs manage their NPC classes -- this is your MAIN ROLE. GMs are the Professors of TIH. An excellent understanding of the shop setting is required.
Approve quests, NOT enrollments. You are checking to make sure that the quester's character would make sense/could exist in the TiH universe.
Answer questions according to the established guidelines.
Assist with metaplots and events. You are GIVEN A ROLE. Ie, take the 7 Sins event: blue was asked to run Lust's event, zoo was asked to run Pride's event and help out with the other sins, and Maru was asked to specifically run Envy's event. The rest of the events were a pow-wow of ideas between the entire staff -- Maru and zoo simply set it up and requested additional help judging when needed.
Reinforce current rules for both IC and OOC play via PMs to players.
Heed the Word and Laws spoken by the admin: liz, zoo, blue, and maru. If you're unsure of something, ask!
Assist with world-building, come up with and run activities after checking with zoo, liz, or maru.
Help keep RP active and interesting!
Help cover for an admin that is on break or quits until the admin is replaced.
TL;DR: A GM helps with all the misc. stuff that keep TiH running! If they are interested in a specific thing, a GM CAN ask a mod if they can assist with a larger project an admin is taking care of.

During this time, new staff MAY RP PROFESSOR CHARACTERS without art. Once their probation period ends, new staff will be allowed to request OFFICIAL art of their character, and/or make the art themselves if they wish once shop admin (lizbot, chibizoo, Marushii) has approved their character first.
In addition, in the event of staff resigning, they are welcomed to continue to RP their STUDENT character. Professors with official art will find new players, whereas professors without official art will quietly return to the schools they were previously teaching, or retire.

Note: Due to probation period, you will NOT receive full official art until your probation period ends. A: Please don't. : ( Those two species have a HUGE number of students, and we'd like to try and boost the number of students that are members of the other races first. If you really, REALLY want to, however, you may do one of either race, providing you have provided us with an example of one Undead, one Reaper, and one Ghost student.
Q: I currently run or help run seven shops atm and want to work here too. Is that a problem?
A: We are looking for guest artists! We're really looking for a team of dedicated individuals who are willing to stick around for awhile, as TiH can be rather demanding. Please think carefully before you apply!
Q: I already have a character, but I have a friend who I'd like to give my student slot to if I get hired. Because I'm on probation, will they still get their art?
A: Yes, your friend will receive art of their character once your probation period ends. They may still request an emblem and RP, however instead of receiving official shop art, they will receive official stand-in art instead.
UPDATE 12/7/12: A: No. You will earn your student slot when you are OFF of probation. You will NOT have a student slot when you are hired.
Q: Who's doing the stand-in art?
A: That is a secret, in addition to what it will look like. c: You do not have to use the art if you don't want to, however it will be certed to prove that while it's stand-in art, your character IS certified and authentic for RP.

I WANNA JOIN THE GMS BEHIND THE CURTAIN! How much experience do you have as a role-play manager? I currently work in a shop called Heralds (slowly coming back to life) and have two teacher characters are D-Corp (biology and phys ed). This past Halloween I was in charge of the Heralds Halloween RP event and more or less am signed up for it every upcoming year too. In D-Corp I simply hold class RPs with anyone who requests one and pass or fail them. What sort of events are you interested in running? RP events, raffles, metas, whatever I'm needed for! I love watching people enjoy themselves. <3 What events (auctions, raffles, RP contests, etc) do you have experience with? Please provide links if any: I've never held an auction, but I judge every flatsale at Heralds and have held a slew of raffles in b/c events, in random inventory cleanouts, on and off forever. So far I've only been in charge of 2 RP events, one of which didn't go so well, but the latest that ended up being fairly successful for a half-dead shop. What interests you the most about This is Halloween? The shop itself makes me glee. I was always a bit of a spooky kid, and Halloween's my favorite holiday. I love designing creatures and immersing myself in worlds and TiH is the perfect place for that. The community is awesome and I'd love to be more involved in it. Also, it'd be nice to have something to do during the day. If you were given a professor character, what class would they teach and why? What class are YOU most interested in teaching? Something ridiculous like sophistication/manners would be fun, considering the antisocial monsters and unhappy students that would be forced to participate (likely upper-class demons?), but alchemy(chemistry) would be fun as well. For the former I just think it'd be fun for everyone, for the latter I'm a total science nerd and would love making up crazy potions and reactions and watching students hurt themselves fool around. Would you be interested in RPing a pre-existing teacher? Sure! Are you aware that you will be on probation for an unspecified amount of time, in which you will NOT receive your TiH character until the probation period ends? Yesss GM CHALLENGE! Title: What will you call it? Summary: I'm assuming I would be teaching chemistry just for the sake of the event, but I would pose it in the main thread as a sort of IC challenge: successfully complete the recipe and see what you've created! Participants would roll dice to choose ingredients, and there would be multiple "right" combinations and "wrong" combinations. Once everyone had rolled I would ICly state what happened to them (although I guess even in-character this is silly OOC jabber) and the minipets would be given to/raffled among the people who got the "correct" combinations. If there weren't 5 winners, I'd raffle the remaining Crystals among the participants. Opening Post:ATTENTION: ALL ALCHEMY STUDENTS!
Professor has offered an extra credit assignment for all interested parties! Given an ancient recipe, each student must try and recreate the result for class on Thursday! You have been supplied with a slew of different substances to attempt-- will you succeed or fail miserably?!
This event is for a popular rare minipet (sneaky sneaky) and everyone can enter, whether or not they have a student. Roll 2 10-sided dice and see what you've created! There are multiple correct combinations, but you may also end up committing accidental arson.

I don't have any recent experience, so links are hard to dig up, but I did run a few small events as a colorist in Faekats, as well as a pet owner there (deity and vampire owners occasionally run small plot things). I also co-..ran? a really small event for a Soquili basket, but the link once again escapes me. What sort of events are you interested in running? Anything! I particularly like events requiring organizational skills (Iike raffles), but I love a well-planned roleplay event just as well! I'd also be glad to run a class, if more teachers are needed. <3 What events (auctions, raffles, RP contests, etc) do you have experience with? Please provide links if any: All of them, in my time as a colorist in Faekats (and as a B/C member in general). What interests you the most about This is Halloween? I love everything about this shop - the people, the world itself, the characters, the current GMs, the plots, everything, and I'd really love to be a part of it. The events are some of the most creative that I've ever seen, and it would be awesome to take part in the planning of one. Alsoooo, I love goblins and monsters and ghosts and all sorts of other creepy things, so TiH itself is right up my alley. If you were given a professor character, what class would they teach and why? What class are YOU most interested in teaching? I think it would be fun to teach a history class - they can't take the Mandatory Play and children's stories as complete truth! Learning the history of their world and predecessors helps those growing youngsters to become FEARleaders of tomorrow. (Just leaders are fine too.) Orrrr, anything involving the arts - sculpting from raw materials (gourd carving would be a cool beginner project), dancing, fine arts, etc. Amityville needs well-rounded students, and doodling kitsunes on in-class assignments won't really cut it when their creativity is concerned. It would also help students think outside of the Pumpkin-Jack-in-the-Box and could offer an outlet for all of those angsty teenage frustrations. I would be interested in a cooking/baking class, but I could never take that away from Ginger! Would you be interested in RPing a pre-existing teacher? I would be gifting off my student anyway~ (And Mountain Dew > Cheetos even though they have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Mountain Dew is lifewater.) GM CHALLENGE!Title: Party Field Trip Prep Summary: This event would be a mock field trip to get students in-gear for real field trips to the real world, oooo~ It would serve as a friendly push to students who were a little nervous about their first real visit. Players would be given a set amount of time to post after the post below was submitted, which would count as sign-ups. Only students who previously signed up would be permitted to post within the event. The event would be set up in Choose Your Own Adventure style, with small prizes along the way. It would be on the shorter side, to minimize dragging on and allow for the five winners. The students who make it the farthest/make it to the end will receive the Crystals. I imagine it running similarly to a couple of other recent games: one run by Maru, where students had to "search for clues" in a certain labeled spot, or the game Zoo ran where students had to RP decorating~ Opening Post: The first Field Trip of the year is coming up soon. Doubts and worries are passed between the first-timer students in the form of between-class notes. Realizing that you bunch of failures probably need more help than previously assumed, a "class" of sorts has been set up to better prepare you for the upcoming trip. The time and date is announced on the Ickycom, the scratchy voice hissing that it is fully your responsibility to remember the time and attend. You get the feeling that you might be sorry if you're not there. The tension is already high as you enter the room - how could it not be when [insert future teacher here] (figuratively) looms in front of you and your peers, serpentpen dangerously poised above Detention slips? You find a paper already sitting on your desk, sloppily copied onto the back of last week's Jollymeal Menu. You think you hear it burp, but that might be a bad reaction to last Frightday's Special. The paper details the most minimal things-to-know regarding the human world. Perhaps they have something to do with the "correct" choices during this exercise...? ((OOC: In a few moments, a short prompt will be posted, beginning the simulated field trip. Please respond briefly and in-character to this prompt, choosing one of the one of the given options. You cannot choose an option that isn't given. Remember to choose wisely: it is possible to get these "wrong," and [insert teacher here] would not be happy. I WANNA JOIN THE GMS BEHIND THE CURTAIN!How much experience do you have as a role-play manager? Can you provide links to the past shops you worked at or RP events you ran, if any (preferably ones with five or more participants)? Well, ah... no... I did a spare event here and there for a long-dead shop, but mostly... no. What sort of events are you interested in running? CLASS CLASS CLASS CLASS... and minipet events. I would love to hold a class and assign crazy homework assignments (though I don't think anything could beat emergency sex ed...) for people to complete. It would also be a blast to hold minipet contests, especially with dice rolling (muahahaha). What events (auctions, raffles, RP contests, etc) do you have experience with? Please provide links if any: I've run an art contest (with a panel of judges) and held auctions back... many, many years ago. What interests you the most about This is Halloween? The WORLD. I've loved horror as a genre since I was in the second grade, and the idea of a school for the supernatural has intrigued me since Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (yes, you may laugh). That is what legends are made of: temptation and risk."

exclaim UPDATE 12/7/10: CONCERNING PROBATION AND CHARACTERS exclaim
As of this moment, all new hires will NOT be eligible for a student slot as soon as they are hired. Instead, new hires must wait until their probation period ends and notified as to whether or not they have EARNED a free student or not. This is to prevent potential system abuse.
While this means there will be a wait on students and giving friends the student they have been questing so very long for, this doesn't mean that you must wait forever to be eligible. Rather, probation periods will vary from individual to individual -- it is VERY possible to earn a student slot before your probation period ends.
If a new hire has expressed interest in running a class, they will still receive art of their character. This "professor" will be treated as a visiting professor who has been invited to teach at Amityville Academy for a certain period of time. Special "Visitor Passes" will be issued for these NPCs.
TL;DR: New hires must now earn slots for students. Probation periods vary from individual to individual. New hire NPCs will be treated as visitors.

I have not really had the chance to attempt being a role-play manager. What sort of events are you interested in running? I wouldn't mind doing mini game events or something like how the 7 sins (individually) were done. If needed, I wouldn't be opposed to helping in Meta's either. What events (auctions, raffles, RP contests, etc) do you have experience with? Please provide links if any: I have helped with and ran pet sales on another site for a shop as well as worked as GM there for a while. I also helped develop a Meta-plot for Moonlight Calibration here on Gaia. What interests you the most about This is Halloween? The awesome staff, general atmosphere, it's HALLOWEEN!, the artwork is amazing, really fun events and mini games are thrown. If you were given a professor character, what class would they teach and why? What class are YOU most interested in teaching? A Walk in the Woods 1 (or something woodsy in name) - A class that deals with teaching students to become better woodland frights, like Bigfoot or werewolves. The class would take place mostly out in the Weeping Forest with one or two days being in a classroom to turn in homework, discuss how much the students sucked being out in the woods, etc. The idea of the class would be to teach students how to scare humans that are camping out in the woods, got lost, or have a party going. It would also be a great way to determine how well the student themselves did out in the dark in the middle of the forest. Also, strange things happen to those that attempt to find the rumored 'portals to other realms' while out in the forest. As to why the professor would teach this class? I would most likely love to make the professor a Hell Hound, whose natural ability is 'Storms'. This ability would make creating a frightful atmosphere in the woods that much better and who doesn't get a kick out of a stormy night lost in the woods while some horrific creature chases you? Sleepy Hollow anyone? Hey wait, isn't that Red in the distance...? I would love an art class of some sort or possibly a cooking/baking class. But the out-doorsy/ woodland classes always struck my fancy as well. Would you be interested in RPing a pre-existing teacher? Note: this will not bypass the probation limit of not having art. I find it very difficult to take over someone elses character and try not to do it when I can avoid it. Summary: ((I am going along the assumption of having a Professor and doing an assignment for the class)) A scavenger hunt will be held and run for a week with bonus hunt items being given out a few days before the end. During this time, your student will need to take a trip through the woods and discover objects that have been 'hidden' done via role-play (can be solo or PRP). This assignment will be handed in INDIVIDUALLY. However, your student may work with one or two other students to complete the assignment. In fact it is recommended that you do this so you don't accidentally get lost in the woods. When you have finished your assignment, post your scavenger hunt sheet for your student but make a note of who you worked with (if you didn't work alone). The object of this assignment is to give me your interpretation of the list of items that is given below. This is your scavenger sheet. DO NOT LOSE IT. For each item listed, find me an image or draw me a picture that you think best depicts the item. Each item has a predetermined amount of points assigned to it. But Professor 'XYZ' won't be giving that sneaky bit of information out. Once all assignments are handed in on their due date, the students with the most points will have a chance of winning this rare and awesome minipet.Opening Post: OOC The Professor is sitting quietly at their desk, watching the students filter in with an air of amusement about them. Have your student come in, mingle with one another, eye the stack of packets on the Professor's desk. When enough students have filtered in, the Professor will explain what is to happen and the Scavenger Hunt list will be posted.
