Lysander took a quick look in the mirror before leaving his barracks. He'd never been on a blind date before, but he wasn't worried. From what he'd seen of White Shadow's female riders, he could only have been paired with someone very attractive.

He was to meet her in the hall at noon. Lysander would be a bit early, but he didn't have anything else to do. He couldn't train because it would get his uniform dirty. He couldn't stay home and do something because he would lose track of the time and end up arriving late. If he even went to talk with one of his many acquaintances, he might even forget about the date altogether. He didn't want to risk that, especially when he was positive that there would be a pretty girl involved.

Lysander walked at a leisurely pace toward the Hall. Whirlwind was running around in the training field doing something. What exactly, Lysander didn't particularly care, so long as the young wolf wasn't getting into trouble. He sat at a table in a chair facing the door. If his date entered, he would know who it was. She was supposed to be carrying something that would give her away quite easily. What was it again?

Whirlwind laid on his back just inside of the track surrounding the training field. There was an itch there that he couldn't quite get with his back paw, nor with his teeth. It had become quite the vendetta. He was going to scratch this itch and he was going to do it until he was satisfied. Whirlwind just had to figure out exactly how to do it.

As rolling around in the grass seemed to have little effect, he was running out of options. Finally, he gave in. Whirl wasn't above enlisting the help of a fellow wolf. After all, that seemed to be what it was going to take to get this itch to go away and it was always interesting meeting someone new. With an exasperated sigh, he moved awkwardly toward the nearest wolf.

Hey, you. He fidgeted a bit before continuing. Man, this itch was really annoying. Would you mind helping me out here? He turned his backside toward the wolf and fidgeted a bit more. If you could get it right there in the middle, I would really appreciate it.

Blind date... In all honesty, she didn't know what in her right mind allowed her to "stand in" for her friend during her blind date. Who would even want to go on a blind date? And the only reason she was going was because her friend came down with a cold. A cold. If not for that cold I wouldn't

Whoa, relax on the menacing thoughts. I can still hear them whether you want me to or not, the red and white wolf next to Emi said gently. Besides, on the bright side, maybe the guy will turn out to be your type. When he noticed his bonded's mood still hadn't lifted up, the male's tail drooped slightly. Sighing, FlameFrost was about to start speaking again when a voice interrupted his train of thought. Turning around, he end up looking at air until he shifted his sight downward. Oh um, uh, sure? the wolf said, a little awkward with the situation, seeing as he didn't know the other. Lifting his paw up gingerly, the frosted wolf started to scratch the other, carefully not to hurt him with his claws

Really, the Private appreciated her bonded's attempt to be helpful, but it wasn't completely working. It wasn't that she was worried that the guy would be horid looking or anything. She just didn't want to meet a guy through a blind date that wasn't even set up for her. However, watching the unfolding of the meeting of two new acquaintances she managed to gain a good laugh out of the entire scene. Shaking her head gently, a smile was finally adorning Emi's face. I'm going to head over to the Hall now. Don't want to end up late. I just need to explain to whoever it is that his date couldn't make it because of her cold. Later, Flame, she informed her partner before shuffling to the Hall, not waiting to hear any objects or advice from her wolf.

Wearing a highly contrasting green scarf against her clothes, there was no way for the "date" to miss her as most people in the fort didn't seem to like contrasting colors. She would never understand some of the residents at the fort.

With a final shaky breath, the female entered into the hall, pushing the door open.

Lysander sat at the bar, talking to the woman next to him. In the process of waiting, Lysander had noticed her steadily getting more and more drunk. The bartender hadn't stopped serving her yet, but her speech was getting to be pretty incomprehensible. She was hard enough to understand when she was sober, what with her accent (the origin of which was a complete mystery). The woman didn't need the help of the alcohol.

The young man turned his head at the sound of the door opening. His date hadn't arrived yet and since he'd shown up early, he was getting pretty antsy. He hadn't been told how he would recognize the woman, just a general physical description. She would be tall with an athletic build and short black hair, green eyes, and tanned skin. Lysander had seen a woman of her description earlier, but it hadn't been her. With a sigh, Lysander turned his head back toward the bar. The woman who just stepped in wasn't her either.

Maybe he was just worried because he had been waiting so long. For all he knew, it could still be early. After all, he had never been a very good judge of time. Oh well. Even if she didn't show up, he could always hook up with one of the many women already at the bar. He wasn't considering the woman sitting next to him, drunk as she was. Lysander wasn't the pickiest of men, but taking advantage of a woman under the influence just wasn't his style.

He thought momentarily of the woman he'd just seen entering the door. She was very pretty, probably here to meet a boyfriend or a group of friends as girls like that were either extremely independent or already dating someone. That had ruined his chances with a number of girls before. One in particular that he'd had his eyes on in the Academy had gotten away to the forts before Lysander had been able to charm her. He thought he might meet her eventually. There was a fifty percent chance that she was in White Shadow rather than New Eve. Of course, there was always the chance that she'd died in battle before he himself had gotten a chance to bond. He waived the thought away. She was a tough girl. She wouldn't succumb so easily to the centipedes.

Wait a minute... Lysander thought, looking back to the woman that had walked through the door a few minutes ago. When he'd made the connection, a feeling of elation had come over him. The one that got away was alive, in good health by the look of her, and in the same fort. It had to be fate. Lysander stood and walked over to her, ignoring the blonde woman's drunken rambling for now.

"Kitty, is that you?" He asked, remembering the nickname he'd given her a while back while still in the Academy.

Whirlwind groaned as the other wolf scratched his lower back right in the middle where it had itched for so long. Oh, this was heaven. The vendetta was over and he had won. As the other wolf's claws ebbed away the last of that infernal itch, Whirlwind turned around to thank the wolf responsible. His tongue rolled out of one side of his maw in a toothy smile.

Thank you, kind sir. I was really in a pinch there, he said, not noticing the other wolf's discomfort. The itch was gone and now he could be on his way. But wait. That wasn't right. After the other wolf had helped him, it was only fair that they have a proper introduction and conversation. I'm Whirlwind, he introduced himself, laying his front legs flat on the ground, his hind end in the air as if he was play fighting with one of his siblings and ready to pounce. What's your name?

Shivering slightly, Emi ran her hands down her arms lightly, grateful for the warmth of the Hall. Even if it was warming up, it was still winter outside, meaning she could still come down with something. However, that was the least of her concern as she hadn't been outside to long and she was bundled up in appropriate clothing for the weather outside the building.

Eyes scanning the area, she hoped that the person she was supposed to meet would be able to recognize the fact that she was the one he needed to meet opposed to her missing friend. As the female's eyes scanned the Hall, a built body obscured her vision. Who in the world? But that was when the voice wrapped around her, sweet and familiar. 'Kitty, is that you?'

How long had it been since she last heard a male call her by that name? The voice, the nickname, it was only one person. Raising her head, Emi peered at the male who towered above her. Lips twitching into a smile, she replied, "Lysander." Her breath was light as her eyes curved slightly in response to her smile. "You know, I would call you Goggles, but it doesn't seem so appropriate anymore. It's good to see you again, Lysander.

What were the chances of them meeting again? 50 of ending in the same fort, subtract the chances she could have died, 35 to 25 percent chance at best. But life didn't seem to be so harsh at the moment. "Is it alright for us to sit down so I stop feeling frosted on my feet?"

Taking a good look at the Lysander, the Private couldn't help but note something. He looks good. And it was true. He did.

This Whirlwind was certainly a special wolf. Grinning back in reply, the red wolf introduced himself, Nice to meet you, I'm FlameFrost. Eying the other wolf over, he noted a few things. One, he was of average height, not to small but not around 17 hh like more built wolves. Two, he was a blue and white color. Three, Whirlwind reminded him of some other creature around the fort.

A few more seconds and it clicked. By any chance Whirlwind, is your mother HailWing? Flame knew about his Patron have a litter but he had never seen any of them, and if he was right about the bloodlines, well this would be the first meeting with one of the pups.

Lysander smiled when she mentioned the goggles. He never thought he'd grow out of them, but in the end he hadn't had to. "Yeah. Funny story. Whirlwind likes to chew on things." He laughed. "You should see my old Academy shoes. " He paused, She'd said it was nice to see him again like they were old friends. Most of their relationship back then had seemed like him trying to hit on her and being turned down, then trying to hit on other girls and being scolded. I guess there was a friendship in there somewhere. He felt the urge to laugh again, but held it in. She might think him rude if he started laughing now. "It's nice to see you too," he said finally.

He nodded to her when she asked to sit down and motioned to a table. There weren't any two seats left together unless they wanted to sit on either side of the drunk blonde woman. The man who'd seemed to be her date had scooted over a seat as if preparing for all of the alcohol the woman had consumed in the time she'd been there (and she had been sitting in the same place when Lysander had arrived) was about to shoot out of her mouth and onto the nearest person. Well, if she did, Lysander sincerely felt sorry for whoever had to clean it up.

"So, what brings you here?" Lysander asked, examining her peculiar green scarf. He didn't exactly have the right to talk considering the goggles, but if this was her new character item, he had to question her taste, He shook his head and smiled. "Can I get you anything?"

At the sound of his mother's name, Whirlwind's ears perked up and he sat up straight. You know my mom? he asked tilting his head to the side. His eyes lit up as something occurred to him to do. If he had been bonded to anyone other than Lysander, he might not have thought of it. He looked at the older male, eyes glossy and as large and cute as he could make them. D... Daddy? He asked, whining a little for effect. He knew very well who his father was and the wolf was obviously too young. He just wanted to see how the other wolf would react. Whirlwind could always apologize later.

Giggling lightly at her new found information of the missing goggles, Emi stopped, curious as to why Lysander had paused before starting up again. However, she held in her words, focusing on the conversation at hand, while at the same time, ignoring the completely drunk lady at the bar. Maybe it was just her, or maybe that woman was actually eying Lysander like candy.

"Anything warm would be nice, if you don't mind," the female told him. "As for why I'm here, well, it wasn't willingly. See, one of my friends, she single, had a blind date today. Only problem, she got sick and well, asked me to fill in for her 'cause she was going to end up feeling really bad for unintentionally standing up her date." Thinking about it, Emi had so special friends. "She was all like 'All you have to do is look pretty, and go in wearing my green scarf! The guy is sure to know that you're there for the date!'" she imitated her friend. Shaking her head the female huffed. "Really, green? Not really my style, but hey, it certainly attracts attention. Even though I really didn't want to come at first, I should probably thank her since I got to see you again," the Private joked lightly as she unwrapped the fabric from her neck.

"So what have you been up to?" The two had always held a strange little relationship where it was a flirt, reject but don't flirt with another girl kind of thing. But when she had left, they all but lost contact. Meeting up again was nice, but the female wasn't completely sure how to act. Like friends, like acquaintances?

Deciding to drop the little battle in her head, Emi locked her eyes on the male next to her.

Yep, I sure do, FlameFrost started to speak, about to explain how he knew his mother, when Whirlwind interrupted, asking if he, he, was his father.

Honestly, Flame tried, tried not to burst out and die. The closest he could get to not doing that was rolling on the soft grass hysterically. When he finally managed to calm down, the male wolf pushed himself back up onto his hind legs before looking at the blue and white wolf. That was cute, but no, I'm not your daddy. Adorning his face was a huge grin. No, I'm you mother's former apprentice.

Lysander nodded and when the waiter addressed their table, ordered for the both of them. "A hot chocolate for the lady," he said, looking to Emi for a confirmation or approval. "And the usual for me." Lysander didn't come here that often, actually, favoring private dates in their barracks to something so public. After all, he couldn't have those women who didn't know his nature seeing him dating, could he? No, he'd said "the usual" to play a little harmless prank on the waiter, who was sure to have no idea what on earth his usual was. He would likely spend a long time debating behind the bar before making the most popular drink on the menu and delivering it to the table. The most popular drink was likely Abigail Baker's favorite drink seeing as how she'd been here all morning. And Lysander had to admit, the blonde woman had good taste from what he'd seen when he was sitting next to her at the bar.

"Oh, so that's what's going on. Were you told what to expect when you came here or was she just going to leave it up to her date?" he asked, curious. So he'd been stood up. She'd been sick, so Lysander wouldn't hold it against her and Emi had brought up a good point. They'd gotten to meet again. And then the origin of the scarf was brought to light. Had he been told that his date would be wearing it? Regardless, he knew now. "But green looks good on you," he said, smiling. "It brings out the blue of your eyes. It's quite flattering, really." It was better to get right to business, wasn't it?

Lysander put a finger to his lips. There hadn't been much to do lately except to train and charm the fort's eligible bachelorettes with his dazzling smile. Oh, but he couldn't tell her that, could he? "Well... Come to think of it, it's been pretty boring here lately. What about you? What have you been up to?" he asked with a very interested expression, as if her life must contain some unfathomable excitement at such a boring time of year.

Boring, Whirlwind thought as a reaction to the other wolf's lack of reaction. At least some laughter or maybe a little concern. Well, boring or not, he hadn't fallen for it and so Whirlwind let the topic slip away as if it hadn't even been brought up in the first place.

Oh, so I guess the bossiness came in handy, he said, referring to his mother's incessant nagging and foul mood. His eyes went upward as he tried to imagine this stranger under the tutelage of his mother. Taking a look at FlameFrost, he thought that his mother must have emphasized speed to him. After all, if a wolf as big as him was also fast, then that would make him quite the formidable opponent.

Well, it's nice to meet you Mr.FlameFrost, he said, I hope my mom didn't give you too much of a hard time.

Eying the male discretely, Emi was curious. He spoke as if he had knew there was going to be a blind date here. Of course there was always the possibility that he was the blind date. "Well, she told me that she had told her date her that she would be wearing a green scarf, as well as her appearance. Then again, she could be a bit forgetful so she might not have done so," the Private filled in Lysander as she happily waited for her hot chocolate.

Hearing the comment, she looked down at her lap shyly. Emi wasn't someone used to complements on her looks. Flirt yes. Genuine complements, not really. "Thanks," she replied, pleased with her bright eyes. She always liked them, but never felt a reason to be proud with their color.

Then the conversation took a shift towards her direction. "Lately? Nothing much, it's pretty boring since I don't have a mentor to find drunk in the afternoon." Such fond memories of hers, filled with Abigail. "So other then riding FlameFrost, not much. Kind of almost miss the times when I got in trouble with the Captain, almost, but not enough to live through it again." Nope, she would never go through it again. "But,tell me, how are you liking the life of a wolfrider so far? Asides from the single ladies," Emi asked, leaning back in her seat. If Lysander was anything like his old self, she would bet that he retained his flirting streak. Where was her drink?

Awkward as our meeting was, it's nice to meet you too, Whirlwind, the red wolf replied. Oh, and you should drop the mister with me. It makes me feel old. FlameFrost didn't like feeling old when he didn't even have a mate.

Give him a hard time? HailWing? Oh yes she did. Well, it helped that she was pregnant with you and your siblings. Although and aggravated, pregnant HailWing wasn't a pretty sight either, he sighed. Oh, the number of times she yelled at him for a mess up. But at least he got to sleep in later then most because his humans Patron liked to sleep in. Or get drunk the night before.

"Oh, so she left it all up to her date. That's terrible." Lysander said, but he was smiling. If that was the case, then Emi wouldn't have to know that Lysander was the girl's date and he could be the one to console her when the "real date" didn't show up. Then again, she probably wouldn't care, as it was the other girl's date. Yet another possibility was that the news would get back to the other girl and then where would he be? Although it would work better in the short term if Emi didn't know, it would work out badly in the long run. Lysander's smile faded. He would have to tell her... eventually.

His eyes widened when Emi looked down at her lap. Was she honestly embarrassed? Lysander had never thought of Emi as the shy type, but this was good news. He liked the shy types. He smiled again. "I never flatter."

Lysander nodded as the female rider spoke. That was about the way he felt at the moment, though his patron had been serious business. He raised his brow in shock when Emi said that she had been in trouble with the Captain. "No way," He said in disbelief. "My cute little Kitty a trouble maker? I'm shocked!" The Emi he remembered wasn't exactly a princess, but she had been very serious about becoming a wolfrider. At least that was the vibe that he got. What could she have done to get herself in trouble with the Captain?

Well, whatever it was that happened, it seemed like it had been a tough time for her so Lysander wouldn't pry. Instead, he pondered the answer to her next question. He laughed when she mentioned the single ladies. "You know me well," he answered, smiling. "Hm... Well, I haven't done much yet to be honest. Whirlwind just recently got old enough to be considered an adult. I haven't even gone through my first battle yet." He shrugged. "So far, I can't complain, but seeing as how you're the more experienced rider... Do you have any tips for me?"

Whirlwind's ears perked up. Awkward? Had it been awkward? He had been so preoccupied with the itch that he hadn't thought about the other wolf feeling uncomfortable. ...Sorry about that. He replied, smiling and avoiding eye contact. He made a mental note not to ask a stranger to scratch his back again. But seeing as how FlameFrost was no longer a stranger, perhaps Whirlwind would have a new personal back scratcher. He eyed the other wolf's claws like a piece of meat. Oh, he had plans for those claws.

Snapped back to attention by the other wolf's voice, Whirlwind nodded. No mister from now on. Got it. He tried to imagine his mother in a more foul mood than she already was most of the time, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. His mother was scary enough on a normal day. He didn't need or want to give himself nightmares imagining her any worse. Whirlwind visibly shuddered. Yikes. I feel sorry for you.
