Bridging the gap between installments of the long-running franchise, Square Enix intends to release a trading card game featuring staples of the Final Fantasy universe.
Little has been revealed about the game yet, other than that cards will draw from the unique skills and attributes of each character or summon. Confirmed characters include Sephiroth, Cloud, Lightning, Zidane, and a handful more.
Square is apparently positioning the cards themselves as collector’s items, as they will boast larger artwork than what is traditionally found on competing products.
The Final Fantasy TCG will debut in Japan February 25. We’ve contacted Square Enix to see if the product will be making its way stateside. _____________________________________________________________
LOL. I hope they come to the states. Would totally buy them. Heres the link to the real article http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/11/30/square-enix-debuts-final-fantasy-trading-card-game.aspx

Well now, this certainly catches my attention. I, too, would definitely collect the cards simply for the satisfaction. If there are enough people in my area that play the card game, I'll even participate in tournaments and friendly competition whenever I have spare time.

Oh yeah. Definitely going to attempt to complete that set first. FF VIII was my first FF game.
I'm also going to be on the lookout for characters from the FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2 games. Would be great to see Ramza. Delita, Agarias, Beowulf, etc.

Heres the official Japanese site for the game. Its all in Japanese (means I can't read a damn word of it lol) but it shows what the back of the cards will look like and if you hover over the character it shows a "sample" card for that character. http://www.square-enix-shop.com/jp/ff-tcg/top.html

No complaints about the artwork and design...but the samples look more like those baseball collectible cards rather then cards you use to play a game with. I wonder if they're going to add things like spell or weapon cards into the game. Could be a nice idea. The FF world does have a pretty decent size catalog of unique weapons and spells.

I'm thinking that where it says SAMPLE will be where the abilities and powers are written. Its still in development and rules and gameplay haven't been publicly announced as of yet. The artwork is good but it looks like the same old images I've seen countless times.
The Final Fantasy universe has an almost countless number of options in spells and weapons. I could just imagine Squall equipped with the Buster Sword. lol

I'll collect them just for the pure art probably, doubt I'll ever use them.
Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh take up to much of the TCG industry, Unless Final Fantasy comes up with a great new concept to take the TCG genre to a whole new level then I doubt this will take of.

Yeah. Between MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh and Poke'mon, there isn't really room for another TCG. I see them being more of a collector's item too. Me and Marie would probably play once or twice just for the sake of it but other than that they will be in a folder.

Hmmm? I still see kids playing Pokemon cards, but I haven't seen any Yugioh card games being played at all these past few years. I haven't played MTG for a LONG time...nor have I seen anyone else besides me and my friends play that card game. 3nodding

Lots of people I know (including me) still play MTG. I also play pokemon. You are right though. Yugioh does not get played nearly as much as it used to. They added to much crap to the game...

Actually where I live nobody plays pokemon and few play MTG. There's still a lot of people who play Yugioh though and there's tournaments all the time. Most of the people I know have tuners monsters and all of that (I still don't understand all of this new crap)...but i still beat them with my epic Exodia deck (: again this is where i live...

I still have my Yugioh deck in perfect condition. I remember it being built to hit as fast and hard as possible while my spell and trap cards consisted of shielding my monsters from things like Rageki or Mirror Force. I had a friend that used an Exodia deck back in middle school. He's only won against people who take their time. My very first deck consisted of simple weak monsters with lots of spell buff cards. Funny thing was...I won against half my friends using that deck. 3nodding
But enough about Yugioh. We're straying too far away from the new FF Trading Card game!
Maybe they'll utilize a system that involves the FF couples? It'll be like, "RAWR! GO SQUALL AND RINOA! GUN BLADE BOOMERANG RING THINGY ATTACK NOW!"

Hey, I can read Japanese. What a quinky dink.
What it says right on the home page:
Final Fantasy Trading Card Game Here, the general idea of a trading card game is explained and that it will feature the characters of the Final Fantasy series. Challenge your friends with your favorite characters from the Final Fantasy universe!
In the announcements: - The Final Fantasy Trading Card Game site is open! - Exclusive PSP software for The 3rd Birthday (planned to happen on 12/22) will come attached! More details will be released in the future.
On the left underneath the navigation is "The Final Fantasy Trading Card Game will be released 2/25 (February 25th)."
Clicking on "Card" on the left side will bring you to a page with Sephiroth, Cloud and Zidane, and the block of text at the top there is identical to the home page. Hovering over a character actually gives you the character's biography, and because it mentions Dissidia: Final Fantasy, I assume the biography there on the site is the same as it is in Dissidia.
Hope that was helpful.
