Penthesilea padded along a worn trail that would soon lead them into YMCA territory. Behind her was Orithia, who she decided to bring along to help show her how important maintaining alliances was. The Queen kept her pace slow so that her eldest daughter could keep up, though she had grown quite a bit since her birth Orithia was still very small considering her age. She still held onto the hope that the runt of the litter would catch up to her siblings but as it stood right now she was still a good deal behind size wise, however her training was progressing well both in the fighting skills and diplomacy.

"Now remember," She told her daughter as they reached the border of their ally pack. "Things are much different here than in our own pack. You must respect the rules of these lands while we are in them. Chivosi is a good Alpha and she has done us a huge favor in forming this alliance with us." She continued forward eyes and ears alert to any approaching wolves, though in this pack she knew that they would be safe. It was more of a question of who they would run into first.

Though her mother walked slowly Orithia had to half run in order to keep up with her, as her short legs slowed her down too much. But the chance to have a day with just her mother and attend to important pack business was too good of an experience to pass up. Oh she knew it would make Enyo horribly jealous but hey she was the heir not her annoying sister. When her mother spoke Orithia lifted her eyes to look at her. "Yes mother, I understand." On several occasions she had been told about how this pack ran compared to her own. Here males were equal with females and they were not warriors. This was the reason that males from Antianeira were brought here, so that they could live a normal life.

Chivosi was in the middle of showing Apollo one of the many patrol routes members of the pack made every day in order to keep tabs on what was going on in their lands when she caught the familiar scent of the Antianeira Queen. They had spoken and visited several times since making the Alliance and despite their differing views on many things Chivosi rather liked the tan queen. "Your mothers Queen has come to visit" She told the teen beside her. "Please attempt not to embarrass her..." She told Apollo in a pleading voice.

Apollo's ear perked up at his grandmother's words - he vaguely recalled Pen coming to visit when he had first been born and of course his mother spoke about her often..mostly to his sister, but Apollo had over heard enough to be curious.

"I won't" He promised in a wry tone - like he would do anything terrible, he never did. He was hardly the trouble maker of the family. "Mother would be very upset if i did. She'd take it out on dad" He continued "And I don't want to listen to them yell tonight" He told her truthfully.

Chiv blinked at her grandson for a few moments before simply shaking her head and steering him in the right direction to intercept the queen, perhaps someday Apollo would realize that some truth's were better left unsaid - like his parents fighting - but it wasn't a conversation she wanted to try and have today.

"Penthesilea" She called out as she caught sight of her familiar tan hide through the brush.

The faint sound of voices and the approach of paws reached her ears and Penthesilea adjusted her course slightly to meet up with the wolves. When her name was called out she instantly recognized it as Chivosi's and coming around a tree set her eyes upon the brown alpha. "Greetings Chivosi." She gave a slight dip of her head and then eyed the male along side her. The Queen recognized him as one of Terreis' brood but was unsure of which he was as it had been a very long time since she say the pups. "You are one of Terreis' sons are you not?" She questioned him for a moment and then moved her eyes back to Chivosi. "I'd like to introduce you to my heir Orithia." Her muzzle motioned towards the small pup at her side. "She is accompanying me today while I attend to some business that involves your pack. I hope that you have some free time to discuss things."

Orithia put on an extra burst of speed to keep up with her mother as she hurried to where the voices had come from. Then she laid her eyes on the Alpha of YMCA for the first time and was surprised to see that she was not decorated like her mother and her were. Things are different here, she reminded herself before giving her head a small bow. "Hello Alpha Chivosi." Her eyes fell upon the young male but without knowing his name she could not properly greet him so she gave him a quick smile and then turn her attention back to her mother.

Chivosi glanced down at the small pup by Pen's side, it was hard to tell for sure but recalling the time she had heard of the Antianeira pups birth she thought she seemed a bit small for her age. That of course would be rude to say so she merely smiled and nodded to the young pup "It is nice to meet you Orithia, I hope you'll enjoy your day here" She told the young creature before turning her attention back to Pen. "I have nothing to do that can't be put off for a time" She told her "I was merely showing Apollo here the patrol routes, why don't we move closer to the dens to chat?" She suggested thinking Orithia could do with a drink from the river.

"Terreis is my mother" Apollo confirmed as Pen looked at him, there didn't seem to be a need to further introduce himself since his Grandmother had already done so "She speaks often of you" He told the queen, although that seemed a bit to open ended for him so he continued "To my sister at least"

He returned the pups smile, she seemed friendly enough at least, maybe not so aloof as Guinevere was at times.

Penthesilea was glad to see that Orithia was on her best behavior, though she never doubted for a moment that she wouldn't be. Small though she was Orithia was certainly the perfect heir, polite and respectful when needed and yet showed a lot of potential to be a great fighter. Eyes moved to Apollo for a moment, ah yes that was the young lads name and from what Terreis had told her of her sons he was the ever truthful one. "Yes I think that would be good." She agreed with Chivosi and with a glance down at her daughter began to follow the other Alpha towards the dens. She would need to also check on Thealia's boys while here but more importantly there was the matter of Varia's pups to discuss first. But a little friendly chatter before hand would help lighten the mood. "And how are things in your pack Chivosi? Still going well I hope."

"Thank you." She smiled at Chivosi, the alpha was certainly a lot gentler and nicer than the wolves in Antianeira but that did not mean they were not worthy of being their allies. As the wolves began to move again Orithia followed at a half trot, hoping that one day her legs would be longer so that she would more easily keep up with everything. Her eyes watched the young male that was with them, she knew that Varia's pups were related to him - cousins from what she could remember, but he was much older than Varia's litter and she wondered how he would take the news of the new arrivals.

Leading the others towards the central dens and a far more comfortable place to talk Chivosi nodded her head slightly at Pen's question "Well enough" She told her "We had some trouble with a bear a while back, nearly got one of my beta's daughters but she was rescued without injury and the bear chased off" Of course poor Galahad had been injured but he was well now and that was the important thing. "Other then that incident it's been fairly quiet, how do things fare for you?"

Apollo followed along the older wolves, pacing alongside the pup whom had been introduced as Orithia, he was only half paying attention to the chatter between Alpha's - he already knew about the bear and the rescue, it had become a favorite embellished story in the pack by now...though poor Ari still sniffled every time it was mentioned. After a few paces he noticed Orithia watching him. It was odd...he wasn't used to be scrutinized in such a serious manner before and certainly not by such a young wolf, oh he knew he was handsome but she was far to young to be thinking about such things as that - why he was only just starting to think along those lines himself - so that couldn't be it. Flustered finally and unable to come up with a suitable answer he lowered his head and whispered to her "Why are you staring at me?" His voice didn't seem annoyed or demanding, merely curious.

A bear attack? Her own pack had bear activity recently, however she doubted that Alcinoe was the one that attacked the pup here as the female bear had a gentle spirited and had even bonded herself to little Orithia much like how the Queen had Cleite. "Bears can be incredibly dangerous, especially around the pup. It is good to hear she escaped uninjured." The Queen spoke as they came nearer to the dens. "Things go well within my pack, a few of the old sisters have returned recently and we have been graced with another litter of pups." At this point she brought her paws to a stop to look at Chiv. "And that is why I have come. I hope that you are still able to take on male pups from our pack."

Her eyes moved to look at Orithia for a moment to check on the pup, she had kept up with the adults but seemed to be studying Apollo. This made the Queen smile slightly before turning her attention back to Chivosi.

She hadn't been meaning to stare, it had all started out as a mere curious look, but then her eyes just stayed glued to the teen as she thought about the pups that would be coming to his pack. It wasn't until he leaned down and asked when she was staring at him that she realized what she had been doing. "I wasn't staring." She corrected him even if it was a half lie. "I was looking at you." Orithia paused for a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking again.

"Just wondering what you will think of my mothers news." She finally stated with a nod of her head. However she didn't expand on it as she could overhear her mother only beginning to talk about it with Chivosi and she knew better than to interrupt their conversation.

Chivosi had rather expected something of this sort - sure Penthesila had come to visit her kin and the wolves that had been left in YMCA care before but Terreis went to visit the other pack often and Pen's visit came so soon after the news of puppies that she had been almost expecting this visit.

"Our former pups have all grown to strapping youths now" She motioned to Apollo in demonstration of this fact "More puppies would not be a hindrance , and they would have plenty of babysitters to keep them safe" She assured the other Alpha. Chivosi had spent a great deal of time with the last puppies that had been brought here and while neither of them were still what she considered normal they were a great deal better then they had been. At least they didn't shiver and shake every time a female walked by anymore...and once in a while they even talked to one in a cordial manner. Sometimes.

Apollo blinked at Oritha for a few moments before turning his attention to the adult's conversation because he couldn't very well answer Orithia's inquiry without knowing what was going on. From the bits he picked up it sounded like more puppies were on the way and he turned a puzzled glance back to Orithia "My father has spent a great deal of time telling me of this packs purpose. We are a home for the unwanted, those who travel or anything who has no where else to go. Why would it bother me to give shelter to puppies who need it? Are you sad they are leaving? Are they your playmate back home?"

Now granted Derecho had also informed Apollo that Orithia's pack did not think highly of their menfolk - but surely puppies wouldn't be so judgmental right?

Eyes moved to look at Apollo once more who was half distracted by Orithia at the time, before returning to Chivosi. Indeed the previous pups had growth a great deal since the last time she was forced to bring any down here, but it was still best to check before forcing any young ones to travel the distance. "I am glad to hear that, though it will likely be some time before they are old enough to travel." The pups had only been born about a week ago so bringing them here now was out of the question. "For the time being our Nanny will be attending to them, she herself recently had pups so she is capable of taking care of such young pups."

The Queen paused for a moment before continuing. "There will be three of them coming, possibly their father will come as well though that detail has yet to be decided on Casimir's part. And they are cousins of Apollo's and his brothers, so there is blood shared between them. I realize that Terreis may not be the most open about males but I know she would never turn away family."

Orithia paused while listening to her mother and Chivosi before turning her attention to Apollo when he began to speak to her. She raised her shoulders in a slight shrug before answering him. "I don't know, maybe you would get jealous when they come here and you get less attention." His next questions made her pause to think. Was she sad that they were leaving the pack? No not really. They were just males, but she knew better than to blurt something about that out so instead she gathered her words properly before speaking. "No, I'm not sad. Bringing them here is for the best." Her mother had said that herself, that the boys would live better lives here than they would in Antianeira, so bringing them here was the best thing for them. "And they are too young to play with." How could she play with puppies that were only a few days old and could barely move or open their eyes.

Chivosi though about asking why the pups had to come at all if they had a nanny to care for them - but given Terreis' foul temper when the pups had been mentioned previously Chiv was sure that that was a particular clump of deer dung that she didn't want to step in at the moment. Besides the other packs drama wasn't any of her business.

"He is more then welcome if he so chooses, I would never turn away a father" She told Pen sincerely "Derecho still seems to be the only male Terrei is willing to let in" She told her with a quick look to Apollo to make sure he wasn't listening - it was somewhat of a sore spot with the teens.

Apollo smiled a wolfish grin at the pup "I've never had attention from my mother to begin with and unless you are sending up females - which I highly doubt then mother will hardly spare them a look as well" He told her truthfully "Father will dote on them as he does all puppies bu it will be nice for him to have someone else to baby"

"I will be sure to inform Casimir that he has a place here with his pups if he so chooses. Varia has made his life hard since she birthed the pups and I think even he could do with a break from the pack, even if it is only for a short while." She admitted.News of Terreis still only allowing Derecho close was not entirely shocking. In the past one or to sisters had ventured out from the pack to start new lives, but those were filled with challenges that they did not expect, letting go of all that you have known was hard. "It can be difficult to adjust to a new life even after this much time. Terreis was very ingrained in our ways and life here is so much different than up north. I myself had to adjust greatly when my sons came along."

She loved Glacier and Patroclus greatly, but there was certainly a favoritism towards her daughters no matter how hard she tried to make things fair and equal among her brood.

The small pup smiled slightly and took a step forward before whispering to Apollo. "Sometimes not being paid attention to is a good thing." Then took a step back again. She always had attention on her for a variety of reasons, because she was small, or sick but mostly because she was the heir and that title meant that much was expected of her. She had to be strong in everyone's eyes even when she did not feel strong.

Back home she could not afford to show much weakness, but here away from all the prying eyes of the pack she was allowed to relax a bit. Which lead the pup to say what was on her mind next, head turned to look at the Queen. "Mother, I am thirsty."

Penthesilea had been about to say something when she was interrupted by Orithia. It had been a long journey and there was no doubt the girl could use a drink. "The river is not far from here. Perhaps young Apollo here can escort you there?" She looked to Chivosi. "I'm sure they will be fine on their own." The adults would still be able to see the two young wolves and would be in earshot should anything happen, plus it would give them an opportunity to speak of things that were best said away from the younger ones ears.

"He will be close enough for a quick return home once they've grown if he so desire" Chiv agreed before glancing at little Orithia and nodding at Pen's words "They'll be lucky if they make it there without being accosted by Merrills girls or the rest of Apollo's siblings" She told her wryly though she smiled "The lands are safe enough here with so many wolves about to keep watch" YMCA might not be a warrior pack - but they were fairly large and always growing. The bear attack of late was an exception not a rule.

Still...she looked hard at Apollo for a few moments as though willing the teen to look after the younger pup...moon forbid that anything happen to the princess while she and her mother visited.

Apollo seemed somewhat amused by Chiv's look "No worries Grams... I'll make sure nothing happens to her" He promised Chiv and Pen both before motioning towards the river with his muzzle in invitation to Orithia. "Have you ever been fishing?" He asked her before they'd gone more then a few paces.

Penthesilea gave her head a nod in agreement and watched as the two younger wolves walked off. She waited until they were a good distance away before speaking again. "Orithia is small for her age, there was a time when I did not think she would live through the night. But she is strong in both body and mind, her knowledge already goes beyond her years." There was a definite undertone of pride in the Queen's voice as she spoke about her eldest daughter. Honestly she was proud of every single one of her children including Glacier, her adopted son. Finally peeling her eyes away from the retreating form of her daughter the Queen lowered herself onto her haunches.

"I know those boys have had it tough with Terreis' lack of care. She has spoken to me many times about it and I know she doesn't want to treat them so badly. Changing your views of the world is not something that can happen over night, however I had hoped by this point she would be more open to her own sons as well as others within your pack. I wish there was something I could do to help her along with the transition but I am afraid I am at a lose about it." However she knew of all the old blood wolves in the pack that Terreis was likely the most willing to change even if it did seem to take forever to do so. There were others, such as her sister Varia who would rather die than accept a new life.

Giving her mother and Chivosi a grateful smile Orithia began to follow Apollo towards the river. Luckily for her he kept her pace slow so she didn't have to run to keep up with him. Of course his question caught her off guard. "Fishing?" She questioned with a tilt of her head. "No, I've never been fishing. I don't like the water much." Water was to drink and not much else as far as she was concerned. Yes, a cool rain on a hot summer day was refreshing but fishing just wasn't on her agenda.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:48 pm

"She is coming around slowly" Chivosi told the other wolf "I have seen her nuzzle Derecho a time or two - in public even, which she wouldn't have done several months ago' She told her thoughtfully "Apollo I think is one of the lesser affected, I get the impression that he would rather she act how she feels then pretend to care to an amount that she doesn't. The fact that she remains truthful no matter how painful it might be is something he appreciates..but others, such as Corinth, want nothing more then her approval. Honestly I think Derecho has been the most traumatized by the whole affair. You know of course of the little white pup Guinevere? Derecho loves her of course, but he simply can't understand why she is so much more important to Terreis then her own blood...and secretly fear that if they are ever blessed with daughters they will leave and return with a far different opinion of him. It causes some stress in their relationship - but I think we all knew theirs was not to be a mating of sunshine and daisies...and both would be miserable if it was" She admitted with a slight shrug. Rocky though it sometimes appeared to be - it worked for them. "And as for your daughter - she looks like she is well on her way to good health now. You had a large litter if I recall the news properly..it is not surprising that one was smaller then the others."

Apollo gaped at the pup for a few moments "Don't like the water? Everyone likes he water" He paused "Well except maybe Merrill, but she doesn't count" He shook his head a if he truly couldn't believe that she didn't like the water. "When we were pups we used to sneak out and play in the water all the time - theres so many fun things you can do in the water"

She nodded slowly taking in all that Chivosi said and thinking on it a short while before replying. Of course the idea of having Terreis' mate the most traumatized of all was a bit of a surprise. "Being raised as she was it is no surprise that Terreis favors that white pup over her own. For years she has been told that females are superior and that the only worthy pup to have is a female." She paused for a moment before speaking again. "To be completely honest Chivosi, I do not think Terreis' views on males thanks to her upbringing are the true root of the problem here. I am sure that you have met her brother Iosef when he came to visit after Terreis' sons were born."

Chances are the patchy wolf would have offered to help out while down visiting instead of relaxing as he was expected to do during his time off. "Male hater or not, Terreis has always been close to her brother, extremely close considering where they grew up. When the war tore our pack apart Terreis fled with her mother, Iosef, Iosef's mate as well as her sister Varia, who's pups are to come here. Terreis would never abandon Iosef willingly, so when Varia forced her away from their brother stating that he was too weak to bother with it broke her heart. She spent many months looking for him and after such time feared that the shy male had been killed along with their mother."

She took a moments pause to let Chivosi digest what she had said before continuing. "The thought that her brother, the only male she had ever loved up to that point was dead, had completely devastated Terreis. She may try to hide herself in that male hating bubble but I know that deep down she fears that if she become close with a male, be it her mate or even her sons that something bad will happen to them and she will be heart broken once more. She may be a battle hardened warrior but she is not without her emotions."

Her eyes roamed a bit, spotting Orithia and Apollo a ways off at the river. She was doing a good job of behaving herself in this completely different environment. "Yes it was a large litter," she comments as her attention returned to Chivosi. "Six in total. Surprising to have a smaller one certainly not, but for it to be my first born and heir that was the surprising part." A hint of laughter in her voice. "She is half the size of her sisters even to this day."

"Well everyone here might like the water," she pointed out as they continued to walk. "But where I come from water is only good to drink." As they came to the river Orithia moved a bit faster, her paws carrying her lightly and silently towards the water. When she reached the edge of the river she lowered herself down and began lapping up the refreshing liquid. After a few moments she lifted her head, licking a few droplets from her lips. "So how do you catch a fish?" She may have originally came here to learn about alliances and how to keep them, but any other lesson that she could get her paws on was also a good bonus, as long as she didn't have to get her paws wet.

While waiting for Apollo to reply she lowered her head once more and began lapping up more water.
