User ImageNaiad was doing what she always did when she found time to herself: sunbathing. The only difference today was that she was not doing so on the water, but on flat, small boulders overlooking the river; she'd put them there herself.

It was annoying, she thought with a huff, that she couldn't be swimming like she wanted to be. But winter was drawing near, and the water was as cold as death - plus the female suspected that if she was cold and wet, she would get sick. But her heart still went out to the fish inside, for how were they surviving in such frigid temperatures? "Ooooh!" she grunted in frustration, switching to laying on her back with a sigh.

What was she supposed to be doing anyway? Cascade was always running in and out, gods only knew she'd soon bring someone back from her travels . . . Mom was bitten by wanderlust often too. Dad was around doing the usual patrols and fishing (which she had already stated previously she'd never do), and Nereus would cast his overprotective shadow over her if she strayed too close. Gods only knew where Nimue was . . . Hers was a small family by most standards, but Naiad loved them dearly. She only wished that, well . . . something would happen already.

Not that she was as big a traveller as her sister or mother, but even confined to the Akiiki Chibale packlands made Naiad grow restless. She couldn't protect her fishy friends, she couldn't hunt to save her life, and nothing of major consequence had happened for several months. Well, save for the new litter, but Naiad didn't really know the parents all that well; somewhat frustrating.

But what to do? Go out and try to see what was just a little beyond the borders before reporting back? Visit the new tykes? Things had been too quiet lately, and she hated this stagnant feeling . . .

User ImageHis tongue lolled from his mouth as he dashed through the woods, ducking under branches and leaping small bushes, moving swiftly without a pause to the beat. He was going to get it, he really wood! Like a white blur that often blended in with the light patches of snow here and there a rabit raced ahead. Certainly it was running faster than Flea, because it was running for it's life. Still, Flea found the chase to be the best part of the hunt and it was something he was very fond of. He wished he could just find himself a full time tag partner and be done with it, that would be fantastic!

Rounding a corner.... getting closer... his chest was heaving so hard up and down he thought it might cave in... he lunged for the tiny beast, snapping his jaws shut as his eyes went wide. When had that hill gotten there?! The rabbit darted left, Flea was readying himself for a rough landing because as his first paw touched down he felt the ground slip from under it and he went crashing forward, gravity having it's way with him. He yelped as he was sent flying down the hill, eyes shut and praying that he would not smack into a tree! Oh gods above, why did these sorts of things always happen to him? Things were beginning to slow, that was good! Oh he kept praying... and gods above was he feeling dizzy!

His body suddenly came to a rolling stop, as the rolling stopped he ended up on his back, staring up at the trees as they swayed in circular motions around him. He groaned and rolled to his side, eyes shutting for a moment. "'orrible bloody rabbit!" He cursed under his breath, muttering something else about the horrors of hills. After a moment he brought himself back to shaky paws, shifting and stretching, making sure all was well and that no bone was broken. "Bwah! Perfects!" He chirped, a little loudly. Now where was he?

His gaze flicked left, right... he turned in a slow circle... river! His tail instantly was wagging, but he stopped and sat suddenly, growling lightly as he started to itch at his neck with his hind paws. "Bloody little gits... ruinin' my nice ahah! momen!" He seemed to be fairly comfortable speaking to himself, and after the itching spell was over he bounded to his paws, moving along the river bank in an energetic manner. His nose was to the ground and after a few moments he slowed. "A pack?" He questioned, ears lowering slightly. Well damn! But as he rounded a bend in the river he decided he didn't care much about the pack.

He'd just spotted a stunningly bright yellow wolf, and from the smell of things it was a she. His tail began to wag more and with reckless abandon he kept headed for her. What was she doing on the rocks, fishing? "Oi, 'ey there love!" He called out in greeting, something of a grin plastered on his maw. "Elp a fello out will yah? Jus'ad quite a tumble o'er tha' way an' m'bit los'." Oooh yeah, getting lost could be a wonderful thing!

The smell of the rabbit wafted over eventually, and she instinctually perked up, head rising and ears turning to find the direction of the little critter. Aha! The swift white figure was easy enough to pick out from the warm colors of her surroundings, and with a soft "umph" Naiad began to pick herself up to possibly try and chase the thing - oooonly it seemed someone else already was on it.

Or not on it. Naiad watched the guy make a leap for it and miss, tumbling as a result down the hill; she winced for him and fully picked herself up, thinking someone should go check out that he was fine. Which he seemed to be, as a few seconds later he had recollected himself (albeit shakily), saw the river, then saw her - aaaand was now coming over rather quickly.

While Naiad had grown up with rather friendly wolves, the bright-colored girl couldn't help but immediately think he was going to pounce on her; probably something ingrained from puphood, where she and her sister had charged at one another in mock fights. And then the stranger was speaking -

- And she couldn't understand a single word of it. What on Telk was the guy saying?

"Um . . ." Naiad frowned a little, sitting upright now on her rock and watching him carefully. "Come again?" She made sure to speak slowly, just in case the male was a foreigner.

He'd come to a stop, was staring at her with a bright smile on his face, expectant.... come again! The smiled dropped from his face and he seemed to cringe a little. Crap, it'd been so long since he'd spoken with anyone outside of his littler group... he forgot how easy it was for wolves to not understand what he was saying. But really... that wasn't his fault. Maybe if they just listened a little better! He stretched a little and seemed to take a moment, looking slightly frustrated. "Elp a fellow out will yeh?" He said again, just as slowly as she was speaking. Oh, he hoped she didn't think he was daft! Nothing worse than a dame thinking you to be unintelligent... not that he was very smart!

"I was jus' o'er thurr an'.." He paused as he suddenly sat, itching his neck, trying toget behind the ear. Damn fleas! One would think you'd just get used to the little buggars... but no! And how was it that Zen and Kiio seemed to stay completely free of the little pests? It was such crap! "J-j-jus' " Oh wait, there was the spot! His eyes shut for a moment before he finally stopped. He stayed seated as another sheepish smile surfaced. "Jus'untin' a lil' rabbie... er... rah-bit.." He didn't think he was saying anything different... shoot how did he used to deal with this problem? Maybe because he was speaking slower she'd just get it anyways.

"I'm los'". He finally said, this time louder and slower, looking a bit torn up. This was supposed to be a pity parade! Not... gee I can't understand you! Arg, so frustrating! Still, it wasn't as though all wolves went out of their way to help someone who was lost anyhow. In fact most would probably tell him to use his nose and buggar off.. but he needed some excuse to speak to the lovely creature. "Yer pack 'round'ere?" Again slowly, though he seemed to have trouble with keeping the speed of his words too slow. He liked up-beat, quick conversational exchange... and now he felt like a pup struggling through his first words.

At the least the slower pace let her understand him more, as Naiad's expression was more animated this time as he spoke. So from what she gathered, he was lost and had followed the rabbit on a hunting chase before . . . tripping? Remembering his tumble made her giggle a little, as he didn't seem very hurt and yet he looked so pitiful at the same time. "Lost, huh?" she repeated back, quite oblivious that this might look like she was insulting his intelligence - or that his scratching might hint at something more than, well, scratching.

"Well you've got the right wolf for this area, sir! Name's Naiad," she said, running right into introductions once she saw the guy was harmless. "And yup, my pack's not too far if you follow the river south. It's Akiiki Chibale if you've ever heard of it. We're a friendly bunch really, especially Libenalas. I wouldn't be surprised if she took in stray deer to nurse them back to health even."

Gee, she thought, what else am I gonna tell him in the next five minutes? Had she been that seriously starved for stimulation? Sheesh.

"So, um . . . I'm guessing you haven't been around these parts before." Duh. He was lost, wasn't he? "Did you come from a pack up north or something?"
