Amrita shuffled to the designated meeting place: the Cafeteria, still holding onto the Pumpkin, though she had thoughtfully wrapped it up in an old, somewhat torn scarf she had found. Having to cart this thing around was a bit of a pain! But it was for a class, and she was going to do her damned best! It was a little strange to her that babies came from pumpkins; her kind just possessed them if they wanted an actual infant. Then again, she never did get the pumpkin talk. The little, child-like Vetala was waiting for her partner to show up, and when she spotted the broken doll, she piped up.
"Hi." Amrita squeaked out, staring up at her 'partner.' "How...uhm, are you?" She had a reason to speak first; it was school related! Usually she tried not to, but it was sadly unavoidable.

Still depressed over the whole assignment, Mei dragged herself to the cafeteria to meet with the ghoul, Amrita. She didn't mind having her for a partner, it was that damn pumpkin the two were to parent that she dreaded. Just how the heck was one supposed to look after a pumpkin anyways?
Heaving out a large sigh, she pushed through the doors that lead to the cafeteria and began to seek out her assigned partner. When it came to her partner, she didn't really know anything about her, except for the fact that she seemed to be extremely timid. Why? She had no idea, but she was sure it would make this assignment more eventful.. Or not.
Catching the ghoul in her sights, she motioned towards her, casually weaving through any chair or table that stood in her path. Mei managed to pull on a half smile and a half assed wave in response to her small greeting before stopping in front of her. "Hey."
She couldn't help but stare at the pumpkin she had lugged with her. The same feeling of uneasiness swirled through her as she continued to stare, only to snap out of her daze as Amrita spoke again. Rubbing the back of her neck, she gave the a slight shrug before letting her hand fall limp at her side. "I'm okay. I guess. So--uh.. What exactly are we supposed to do with this.. Thing..?" She muttered while gesturing to the vegetable.

Amrita was uncomfortable for all of two minutes, before she realized that her partner was not looking at her in that uneasy way, but rather their pumpkin. It made her feel better, and with a bit of a sigh she slipped back to take a seat at a nearby table, placing their 'baby' on top of it.
"Umm...Take care of it, I guess?" She murmured unhelpfully, with a bit of a shrug. The child hummed thoughtfully, tapping her bruised fingers together in a sort of tent. "Maybe...take turns with it?" Her partner seemed and probably was pretty uncomfortable with or unwilling to do this particular assignment, and that made her a little hesitant. While she was sure she could be a half a** decent 'parent', she would hate to take on all the responsibility and fail.
"I-if...um, you don't want too take turns I can, umm...keep it longer...?" Her gaze was on the pumpkinling in front of her, resolving to do everything she could for the creature if Mei didn't want to take equal turns with it. "It's...up to you, really. I don't mind."

Well it was obvious they had to take care of it, her question was, how? In any case, it seemed like there wasn't much else they could do for their.. baby, or at least until the thing popped. Man, that would be a sight. She had always heard of birth to be messy, and unsightly at times. Just that thought alone forced a small scowl onto the dolls face.
Gazing from the pumpkin to Amrita, she shook off whatever expression she had formed while in thought. "Uh.. Yeah, I guess we'll have to take turns. I mean.. Can't exactly have you working 24/7." Mei-Xiu was a slacker, but that usually happened when working alone. She couldn't very well have her partner take all the workload given. "Nah, its cool. I may not like the assignment given, but a grade is a grade. Might as well get it done and over with."
Pursing her lips, Mei took another small glance at the pumpkin before returning her attention to the ghoul. Man this was awkward. The two knew nothing of each other, nor did they seem to know of anything about babies.. Except, well.. The fact that they do indeed know now they come from the pumpkin patch now.

"O-okay...Um, I can take first watch I guess?" Amrita questioned. She'd been more or less taking care of it already, might as well continue with the trend, right? Right. An awkward silence fit over the pair, and the little Vetala found herself playing with a piece of the scarf that had be wrapped around the pumpkin.
"Umm...Should we...name it?" She asked, wondering if Mei would have any particular input on it. So far the pumpkin had been oh-so-creatively dubbed 'Pumpkin'...she might need some help in the creative aspect. "And...what do you think'll happen when it pops?"

Nodding at her suggestion of taking the first watch, she flicked a small strand of hair clear from her face. "Alright, I'll take the second watch then." She would have to take one watch or the other, at least she had more time to mentally and physically prepare for it. If there was a way to do that..
Eye's locking back onto the ghoul, Mei merely stared at her for a good solid minute our two. Now they had to NAME it? Jackdammit. Why couldn't they call it "Project bane of my existence" instead? Now that was a name. "Ummm.. I'll get back to you on the name. For one, I have no idea what gender the thing is." Rubbing her chin lightly, she glanced back at the pumpkin again. "We'll die a horrible death? Or something like that?" At least that's the general scenario she had sorted in her head.

The prolonged eye contact made the ghoul uncomfortable, and it showed; the longer that Mei stared, the more often the childlike Vetala looked away, and the longer it took for her to glance back at her partner to see if she was still staring. Had she said something wrong?! Most people only stared like that when something was wrong. She definitely said something wrong. Ohjack this project just might kill her!
"I...I guess...?" She murmured, taking the rare opportunity to glance at the broken doll. "I've been, um, calling it Pumpkinling...or...just Pumpkin." That seemed gender neutral and pretty to the point. A good name for a pumpkin, she was pretty sure! Despite her usual attempt at not making eye contact, she had to stare when Mei suggested they were going to die.
"What?!" She sputtered out, retracting any and all contact from and with the pumpkin on the table; her reversed hands held back somewhere hear her shoulders, palms facing herself. "But we...Nurse Cricket wouldn't...Really?!" The poor girl both looked and sounded distraught. She didn't want to die for a pumpkin!
Suddenly, this project didn't seem like a helpful one. At all.

Trapped in her own train of though, the doll hardly noticed the sudden discomfort of the ghoul. If she had, she would have reassured her that nothing was wrong---well.. That wasn't all true. Everything about this project had her on edge, and she didn't see it getting better from here. Not for either of them.
"Pumpkinling? Pumpkin?" She had to say it aloud to herself, just to see if either of the names stuck, so far only one of the two did. "I think Pumpkin is fine then. Seeing as it is a--uh.. Pumpkin. Worst comes to worst, we can just give him/her a quick name change if something better comes to mind I guess." If anything else did come to mind. Naming pumpkins was not her forte, so anything would do for her right now.
Attention brought back to the ghoul as she suddenly freaked upon hearing her reply of what was to become of the two of them; Mei quickly thought over ways to calm her. "I-I don't know if that will actually happen! Its just the image I got in my head after hearing Nurse Cricket going on about the pumpkin." Oh man, she should have just kept her mouth shut. She didn't expect her to totally freak.

"Okay." Amrita said softly. Pumpkin or Pumpkinling it was! For a little while she was worried that the name she had more or less chosen would be too...boring. It was a little bit of a relief to hear that the name was okay! Simple pleasures, really.
Of course, the relief was shadowed heavily by the feeling of impending doom that suddenly loomed over. Mei did a great job in throwing the little Vetala off balance, but luckily she was just as easily reeled in. As the doll explained that it was just a mental image, and not the real truth, Amrita's expressions practically did a one-eighty. The distress was gone, but she did look mildly curious.
"Oh." She hummed, apparently feeling it was okay to touch the Pumpkin again, as she rested her bruised hands on it once more. "Well I hope not...I don't want to die a horrible death." But she might be okay with a good death apparently. "That would be terrible." She said seriously, furrowing what was left of her brow.
"So...umm...when do you want to take over?"

Mei liked simple names, they were the easiest to remember. So it was no wonder the doll didn't take the time to think of a better name. Pumpkin would do just fine for her, and it seemed that Amrita was okay with the name as well, since she was the one who had already been going along with the name.
Rubbing the back of her neck nervously, she watched as the ghoul went from shocked and scared, to curiosity. From now on, she would have to think before she spoke in hopes of keeping herself from making this mistake again. Toys were so unpredictable with their reactions..
"Hmmmm." Mei knelt next to the pumpkin for a moment, before tapping a finger lightly upon the think skin of the vegetable. "Hopefully it won't come to that, but this school is so unpredictable, we should just prepare ourselves for anything that is thrown at us. Including screeching babies apparently."
Standing to her full height again, she turned her attention back to Amrita as she questioned her about shifts. "Hmm, I can take the night watch if you want. I don't always need sleep, so its okay to be up all night with it." She said with a slight nod to herself. "We can meet back here or something for me to take Pumpkin back to my dorm?"

Amrita looked thoughtful. While it was true this school was...well unpredictable was an understatement, the Teachers shouldn't go out of their way to try and kill them, right? Then again, What didn't kill you always made you stronger. Well, okay...so maybe the assignments WOULD try to kill them. It was distressing, but she would do her best!
She had to. She wanted a better body! One day, one day...
"Okay! That works." Mei can have it at night, and Amrita could keep it during the day. "And if you want a night off just let me know!" She said cheerfully, meaning everything in her invitation. "Okay, so I'll meet you back here tonight...umm, here~" Twisting a bit, she grabbed her notebook and pen from a bag, jotting a number down and holding the paper out to Mei.
"Give me a call when you're on your way, and when you want it picked up! Sound fair?" Once the paper was out of her hands, she shuffled and struggled to get to her feet, getting Pumpkin ready to go back to her dorm.

Hearing her agree to their little time schedule arrangement, the doll gave a small smile in return. "Okay then. And the same goes for you, if you want day off, let me know." Guaranteed, one or the other would want a small break from the assignment anyways, this way, they would both fill in for one another if it came to that.
Taking the paper into her hand, she looked over the number, before cramming it into her bag. "Sounds good to me. See you later, Amrita, and.. Uh, Pumpkin." She said, gesturing a small wave to the two of them, as moved for the doors. On the bright side of this whole assignment, there was a possibility of making a new friend out of it.

"I will!" But she probably wouldn't. Mei-Xiu looked pretty unhappy with this assignment and she really didn't want to make the other Ghoul feel uncomfortable, or like she absolutely had to take over. Granted, if something were to happen that would warrant it she would call, but if she just felt like a random day off? Probably not. Still, it was probably a nice thing to say to Mei, so she said it.
"Bye bye!" The little Vetala called out, collecting Pumpkin for good and heading back to her dorm.
