Maybe coming back to High Reaches wasn't such a good idea after all. Wilth seemed to be growing more agitated with each passing day, the dragons around him doing absolutely nothing to ease his paranoia, and P'ta was finding it hard to keep up with those who were on the same level as him in terms of being Sr. Weyrlings. There was just too big of a gap between that the Wyerlings at High Reaches learned and what meager offerings had been given to those who went to Ghenza.

Mine. Your Wilth is frightened, there are many new dragons about.

I know. It'll be alright.

The sun had barely risen over the Weyrbowl before Wilth started his morning cries to his lifemate, the young rider sadly growing immune to the tears of the most pathetic bronze that Pern had ever seen (or so he'd been told about a thousand times both at Ghenza and back at High Reaches). The pair had come out of their Weyr to greet the dawn in the same way they had at Ghenza, the habit of being early awake to start chores not so easily forgotten, and as Wilth nuzzled his massive head against P'ta's torso it was very clear the amount of growing he'd done.

Wilth was large, even by Ghenzan standards, so he dwarfed many of the other dragonets that were supposedly close to his age. P'ta didn't mind so much as he stroked the Bronze's hide, gentle croons escaping amidst the dragon's uneasiness.

We'll just relax out here for a little while until the sun's higher in the sky. Then we'll go to the lessons, how about that? You remember all the people from the lessons, right?

. . . I do. I will be safe with you at my side, right Mine?

Of course.

The blonde leaned against his lifemate, his small body nearly swallowed by that which was Wilth.

Z'ai felt the warmth of the sun on his back as he strode across the Weyrbowl, a soft cleaning cloth over his shoulder, and a slab of juicy meat in one hand. They had lessons later that day, but right now, as the sun kissed the Weyr, the lifemates had time to themselves, and Z'ai was going to take advantage of it.

Brath, my love. Where are you hiding yourself?

The rumble that greeted him was filled with that lazy, dozing warmth that could only come from basking on the heights in the rising sun, and Z'ai turned his gaze, finding the mottled brown resting on the lip of the Weyr.

If Mine thinks I am hiding, then Mine is quite blind.

More like sleepy and distracted.

Excuses, excuses. Yours is bored, my Z'ai. You know what that does to your Brath... There was almost a note of warning in the brown's mind-voice, and Z'ai frowned, knowing that he'd slacked in keeping his dragon occupied, and that the result could indeed be quite destructive.

A bored Brath was a very unhappy Brath.

I'm sorry, my sweet. I have no excuses for that.

With a shake, the big brown leapt from the edge and glided easily down to his rider, landing a few dragon strides away from the tall, black haired man.

The brown was growing well, large already, though not nearly as large as any of the bronzes. Even so, when he reached his rider and lovingly head-butted him in the chest, craving a knob scratch, he nearly toppled Z'ai over.

You brought a treat, so all is forgiven, Mine. Without preamble, the dragon wrapped his forked tongue around the slab of wherry liver and swallowed it down as Z'ai chuckled, turning as he caught movement out of the corner of his eye.

Brath, aren't they from Ghenza? he questioned, watching the bronze dragon and rider in the near distance as the sun rose higher over the lip of the Weyrbowl.

The brown offered him a mind-shrug and without another word, they walked towards the pair slowly, enjoying the quiet of the early morning as they did so.

Someone's coming. SOMEONE'S COMING.

Wilth instantly rose to his feet the moment his head turned and noticed an approaching pair. His massive size towered over P'ta as he moved his large wings to cover both himself and his rider, hoping that if he couldn't see them, they certainly couldn't see him. There was a coughing sound from beneath the bronze's wings as P'ta tried to push himself off and away from where he'd been crushed to his dragon's side. Eventually he managed to get free and walk from between the wings, his eyes taking in the newcomers. Even from a distance he could see them thanks to Wilth and the constant connection they shared, but unfortunately half his vision was obscured by a wing.

"Wilth, calm down. You remember them from lessons, right? You know them so it's okay, they won't hurt you. That's Brath and. . . um, I think his name is Z'ai. It'll be okay."

If....if you say so, Mine.

P'ta gingerly reached up and tugged at one of Wilth's wings, peeling it back with minimal effort since the bronze did whatever P'ta wanted of him without question. The blond gave another gentle pat before completely turning his attention the slowly approaching group. No need to be rude!

"Good morning. It's good to see someone else up this early."
