It was lunchtime, and instead of eating real food, Jada Chamberlyn and Johnny King were sitting on the cold metal railing outside a small shop that was selling ice cream. In the snow. Johnny had a 'king' sized cone, Neapolitan in flavor, drizzled with caramel and butterscotch. Jada was eating a strawberry cone, undecorated, a warm black glove lying across her lap.
===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== =====
The story of how they'd gotten here was an interesting one. A singular text to Johnny King at 8:32 in the morning had garnered no reply. A second at 9:48 had also gained no reply. So Jada had fixed her hair, applied her warpaint, pulled on a pair of black denims, a festive (aka red and shimmery) top and slid her feet into the warmest pair of Gucci boots she owned before stomping out the door into the light snow. The sight of a BMW convertible roaring onto the Sovereign Heights campus was unique enough, and the owner rolled the top down and climbed out, taking a seat on the hood and pulling out her cell.
Ring, Ring, until Johnny had finally answered- 9:59. "I'm on your campus, driving your sleigh, and I am bored. Come entertain me," she told him. It wasn't a question. It had been far too long since Jada had engaged in human contact for the simple joy it gave her.

Normal people were asleep at 8:32.
Sadly, Johnny King wasn't normal, but that didn't mean he was going to answer the phone at that god-awful time of the morning. The teen had been up since eight, watching a taped version of Nero Wolfe while eating handfuls Count Chocula cereal sans-milk. A regular breakfast in the King household and an even more regular morning (disregarding the phone call of course). Never one to interrupt his mystery watching for something as trivial as his cellular device – if it was Fallon she knew how to contact him – the green-haired teen ignored the first ring. And the second. By the time the third came, Mr. Wolfe had revealed who the culprit was and Johnny finally reached across his bedside table for his cellphone. The voice that greeted him on the other side was very, very familiar.
"I don't own a sleigh. And neither, for that matter, do you," the teen had said, but he'd pulled his green sweater over his head anyways and tugged on his boots. "Even if you did, it's not legal to park them at Sovereign Heights."
And that was how Johnny King ended up eating ice cream for lunch. Not that he was complaining or anything, but it made sitting outside in snowy Density City all that much better. Licking his ice cream in methodical, circular motions, the green-haired teen paused only long enough to comment, "I didn’t know you'd come back."

Her car qualified as a sleigh, decorated for the season as it was. The seats were covered in white-trimmed red velvet, heated, with a small Christmas tree hanging from the rear view; the ornaments were tiny pictures of her family and a few close friends. Johnny had his own ornament. There were even little lights on it, though their light was under-appreciated in the morning. Where she was parked was considered quite illegal, actually, yet the people walking campus weren't paying much attention to that, so much as they were her rims. Were those custom Asanti rims? Blah blah blah car talk, was all that Jada was hearing as she waved her green-haired friend in her direction, making a face at the clashing of his hair against his shirt. but she'd gotten him into the car, pulled up the roof, turned on the heater, and shot out of Sovereign Heights at a decidedly unhealthy speed, joining traffic on the icy streets.
And that was part of how they had ended up eating ice cream for lunch, watching people scoot by on their way to one place or the next. They were rather busy, like little bees. Some didn't have their Christmas shopping done, and others... well, maybe they were doing their regular trips, content that the Christmas season was well underway. Jada tilted her head as Johnny spoke, looking over at her friend. "I sent you a text message." she said mildly. "I also sent you a souvenir. I see you didn't put it on." She almost hadn't come back, but it was because of her friends that she had. She wouldn't- she couldn't- abandon any of them.

A text? Johnny's eyes flicked to the phone in his pocket but he didn't bother getting it out. He'd take her word for it. There was a good chance that she had texted him and that he just hadn't looked at his phone in a while. Life had been busy; she'd understand, being a magically gifted being herself. Of course, he doubted Jada knew just how busy he'd been, what with Ares' rise to power and his own decision to align himself to her Blood Moon Court. He could tell her about that later.
The green-haired teen tried not to snort around the ice cream in his mouth, finishing his lick before commenting, "I did get it. It looked extremely expensive. I wasn't sure if I could only wear it under certain circumstances. You know, like whenever royalty was in town." A joke, and a lame one at that, but Johnny had appreciated her gift. It was nice to be reminded that some of his friends were still alive and that they hadn't forgotten about him no matter how far away they were. Eager to change the subject – discussing the large amount of money she'd no doubt spent on gifts for her friends was not high on his to do list – he asked instead, "Did you have a good time?"
