Amrita wasn't really hungry; she mostly never was. She didn't really like the cafeteria either mostly because there were too many students in it at any given time, but on occasion she found herself there. Sometimes it worked out, like that one time she met Lizzy. Other times...not so much. Like when it was too crowded and her feet were stepped on more than usual. THAT was never fun. Never ever. But there she was today, holding onto a homework pumpkin whose name she could never remember outside of just calling it 'Pumpkin'.
She never was the creative type.
Her 'Baby' was wrapped in a ripped and dirty scarf and held so tightly against her chest it seemed to partially disappear into her chest cavity, both out of the need to protect it for a good grade, and for nerves.
It was so crowded in here today! So very crowded.
Chewing on what was left of her lip, the child-like girl shifted from foot to foot, looking around for any sort of empty table; there wasn't any, of course. What there was though, was a mostly empty table with a ghoul she recognized from the Student Council party...what was her name again? She was pretty sure they had spoken once. Probably. Hopefully. To be honest she didn't remember much of that night. Still, Amrita shuffled closer, trying to dodge people to protect the pumpkin in front of her and her toes behind her, and made her way to the table.
"Umm...H-hi." Amrita murmured quietly, uncomfortable. "May I, um...join...you?"

It was a very normal day. Claire had greeted lunch lady Ginger with a cheerful smile, and the lunch lady (who was unusually fond of Claire) had given her extra helpings of everything. She was sitting down and munching happily away on her food when she heard someone speak. Looking up, she saw the girl from the student council party. Luckily she remembered her name because she wasn't...intoxicated at that time. She noticed she was holding a package, but wasn't really very curious.
"Hi~ yes, you may sit down. Amrita, right? I'm Claire. If you don't remember, that is." She instantly recognized Amrita from her backwards limbs that intrigued her so much. Claire gave her a warm smile and cleared away a few of her (no less than) four trays of food. Claire didn't really have any friends yet, so the company was very welcome.
She was even willing to offer Amrita a single chip. "Chip?" she said, holding out a (small, but reasonable) chip.

"Thank you." Amrita said politely, moving to sit across from Claire. For a moment she was completely distracted by the sheer amount of food that was placed in front of the girl. Wooow...and she was so skinny, too! She was too busy staring at the trays to register right away that she had been continued to be spoken to, but she did manage to catch 'Claire', which jarred a couple memories that her whiteboard brain had yet to remove.
"Hi, Claire." She murmured, setting her pumpkin on the table in front of her, her backwards hands playing with some of the torn old fabric. When she looked up next and saw the small (but reasonable) chip offered to her, she looked surprised, though she couldn't explain why.
"Oh! Um...Thank you." She said again, looking rather happy over the offering, reaching out to take it with her bruised hand. "I'm sorry I don't...have anything to give back." Amrita said sadly, still holding onto the chip incase Claire changed her mind and wanted it back.

Claire continued munching on her food. She was a bit confused when the girl said she had nothing to give back, she wasn't expecting anything back in the first place. Swallowing her mouthful she said "Oh! I didn't mean you had to give anything back... It's for you. I have lots of food anyway." She gestured towards the four trays of food.
"How are you doing?" she said warmly, now moving on to a fried fox ear that the lunch-lady had made for her.
She saw a bit of the pumpkin that Amrita was holding and smiled. "I'm doing that pumpkin thing too! Me and Shehk have got one." She opened her shoulder bag to reveal the top of a pumpkin. Her and Shehk hadn't really talked much about it, and Claire was given the job of looking after it for now.
"I think my follyjox wants to eat it, though. Can you eat pumpkins? I better keep it away from my stomach just in case." She gave her stomach a wary look and fed it a rat's tail coated in sugar sauce. It purred appreciatively.

"Oh." Amrita breathed out, glancing from Claire to the chip held between bruised fingers. Well...if it was for her! "Thank you!" Smiling happily through a veil of hair, Amrita went to nibble on the chip, barely even touching it. What a nice demon girl this Claire was. Very nice. "I'm...okay? I think someone stepped on my toes. And you?" She hummed thoughtfully, looking over her shoulder to try and see her feet; she failed.
"Y-you are? I didn't...um, see you in class." She mentioned quietly, hoping to not offend; it really wasn't something offensive, at least by her. She didn't notice many people. Mostly because she wasn't looking for them. The comment of eating them though, that made a slightly horrified expression cross what was left of her face.
"I...I don't think that's a good idea!" The child like girl almost whined, wrapping both arms protectively around her little pumpkin while looking around in terrified suspicion. They were in a cafeteria! Ghouls and Boils were hungry! What if someone ate her homework?! Nurse Crickett probably wouldn't believe her! "I don't want to fail." She pouted, wiggling lightly in discomfort.

"You're welcome!" Claire was happy that the girl appreciated it.
Wait... someone stepped on Amrita's toes? That's not very nice. "I hope it was an accident... But I'm sure they'll be ok soon."
She listened as Amrita mentioned the class. "Yeah... I didn't actually go to the class but that nurse lady Cricket grabbed me and said if I didn't work with Shehk as her partner she would personally make sure I was expelled... It was odd... I wonder what she meant?" She was a smart girl, obviously.
"And I wont eat it, I promise. I'm not that hungry. And you wont fail because of me, I hope!" She looked genuinely worried about this prospect: she didn't want backwards-limb girl Amrita to fail. On that note, she didn't want herself or Shehk to fail either, but that didn't really matter just yet.

"It probably was..." Amrita murmured. An accident, of course. Chances were equally good that she'd stepped on her own toes, it happened sometimes. "It's okay though! They haven't fallen off yet." She seemed cheerful enough, at least. It would be a sad day when her toes fell off, but one that should be expected; this body was garbage, but it was still something she was somewhat proud of.
"Oooh...that's why." The small girl rested her chin on the pumpkin, looking thoughtful...but never looking at her companion for longer than a brief glance. "That is weird..." Expelling someone who wasn't even in the class? How strange! "Umm...I-I'm sure you'll do great, though!" It was the way Claire worded things that made Amrita's eye go wide, a hand lifting to wave it like trying to erase something.
"Oh! No no no! I'm s-sorry I...I didn't mean like that!" The girl rushed to defend herself, looking and sounding pretty worried. She didn't want to offend the demon girl! Not at all! "It's..It's just that...umm...there are a lot..." There was rather heavy emphasis on the word, complete with a noted look around them. "And-and...I don't want someone to eat my homework!" This was a pretty distressing concept for her.

Claire looked around too. It seemed that her new friend had a lot of suspects... But she was sure that they weren't going to eat her pumpkin. The only real danger was Claire, and she didn't mind at all. "Wha---? You didn't offend me, if that's what you're trying to say. I was thinking out loud, I guess. I don't think I want to eat the pumpkin in any case. It's like eating a child. It's not right! My mum once wrote a poem for me to remember." She smiled at the thought and turned to look Amrita in the eye. "She said:
From the pumpkin patch the children grow... Their minds clean, like falling white snow. And never will it cross your mind, To take away, and grind and grind Until not but pulp is left, And your stomach is still empty. The children will learn and breathe and play, And live until their dying day.
I always liked the poem. She said to me that children taste gross anyway, so I don't really need to remember the poem if I remember that fact. Not that my stomach cares what they taste like."

"Oh! That's good. I was worried." Amrita admitted; she didn't want to offend Claire, and she was happy that she didn't! It made things a lot easier, and it felt like a weight was lifted off of her chest. Not that she had much of a chest. In fact, she had a negative amount of chest, what with the gaping hole.
"...That's an interesting poem." She hummed out, thinking about it and tapping the cheek on her skull. "It's probably good you don't eat children...might make the parents angry..." Which was probably bad, considering a lot of creatures here were horribly and amazingly strong. But that did beg the question:
"What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?" The girl was incredibly curious.

Claire pondered the question for a moment. "Well, if you mean my stomach, then... Let me think... It ate an entire tree once... It ate a human child's sled that my dad smuggled in from the human world and also an entire series of dictionaries."
She smiled innocently and began drinking her spider juice. It was quite delicious: she was glad she had bought six of them. After the third one she peered up at the girl and tilted her head.
"What's the weirdest thing you've eaten?"

The list of Claires weirdest-things-eaten list thoroughly impressed the little undead girl...even if she didn't quite know what a sled was. There never was any snow where she came from so there never was much use for them!
"Wooooow~" Amrita breathed out, peering at the table as though she could see through it to Claire's stomach. "That's amazing!" Came the quick reply afterwards, her fingers thoughtfully drumming on her pumpkin. "That's amazing!" She repeated in the same tone of voice, unaware that she had even done so, still happily drumming on her pumpkin with bruised fingertips.
"Can you get smarter, eating a dictionary?" She questioned thoughtfully, her mind so wrapped up in this thought that she didn't realize she was swinging her short little legs under the table; a very childish move. When the question was posed back to her, she stared at the Avarice Demon for a moment or two.
"Umm...dead flowers. I was hungry and that's all there was." It was sad her story wasn't as interesting as Claire's. So sad. "NO, WAIT!" She cried out, a little louder than intended. "I ate a rock once! I don't know why." She confided in the girl.

"Dictionaries... Yes, I think that could make you smarter. I guess I never really thought about that. I could feed them to my stomach and maybe he would learn to speak better!" She poked her stomach and it grumbled.
"A rock? I've never eaten one of those before. I think it would hurt a bit. Dead flowers are ok, too. But I'll only eat them if they have chili sauce on them. Otherwise it's straight to the stomach!" She remembered something about her half-brother, too. "I think Barth would eat a rock. He's really lazy, you see, so if that was the only thing in his line of sight it would be in his stomach. He is so lazy that he wouldn't even pick up a piece of paper off the ground!" She shook her head at the thought. As nice as her half-brother was, he was (as she had brought up numerous times) lazy.
"Do you know Barth? Probably not. He probably isn't active enough to make friends. Although, he is in the school play. He's the voice of Oogie Boogie. You're in it too, aren't you? The mayor. I play Shock, she's my favorite character. Sally is my second favorite because she's really pretty. I think the mayor is really ugly, though... Why does he have two faces? That's just weird. Is he a monster or what? I think he is... I don't think other species could be that ugly. Except for maybe unde--- Reapers. Yeah, reapers."
Claire really didn't know when to shut up. Hopefully Amrita wouldn't notice.
Oops.

"Hmm...that would be neat." Amrita mused, looking at the other ghoul's stomach again. "Then if you didn't want to talk, it could do it for you!" That would be most helpful! Most helpful indeed! With a little hum she pat her own stomach...or at least a little bit of it, since most of it was hollowed out.
Before she knew it, the Demon Ghoul in front of her was spewing an awful lot of words. All she could do was stare, listening and trying to understand it all. Flowers with chili sauce? What was a Barth? Whatever it - he? - was, he was lazy! So lazy. Then somehow it got turned to the play, and how this Barth thing was in it too. Amrita tried to follow along with the conversation, but all of her attempts made her sound something like this:
"Oh? Ah? What? Who is...oh, no, I don't...really? Yeah I'm in... I dunno, I guess? Tess is als-- Maybe he's... I..." There, she paused. That part she did understand quite quickly. Claire was going to say Undead, not Reaper. That Undeads were the ugliest species out there.
Well, ouch. She'd never been told she was ugly before (though Claire didn't say she was ugly, it was a general grouping that did involve her), and didn't she say that Monsters were ugly, too? Amrita's best friend was a monster! Suddenly, this Claire ghoul didn't seem all that nice...and for the first time in a while, Amrita felt pretty bad about herself.
"R-Reapers and Monsters aren't...u-ugly." She murmured low, a bit of a pout on her lips. Amrita started to play with a piece of her hair, twisting it about in her reversed hands. "And...I don't think M-Mayor is ugly..." She actually liked his two faces, it was neat!

Claire noticed that Amrita suddenly looked hurt. She didn't mean what she said... Claire was suddenly quiet. Picking at her sleeve, she tried not to cry.
"I didn't... I didn't... I didn't mean it like... like that... I don't think that any creature is ugly... I just meant... Not ugly per say... Maybe if my stomach ate more dictionaries it could speak better words than me!" Wait, why did you say that? Oh candlejack... What's wrong with you, Claire? Dammit. Say something... SAY SOMETHING, CLAIRE! "Sorry." she murmured sincerely. "I honestly didn't mean it like that. I'm not a bad demon, honest! I just saw a couple of really horrible monsters this one time and they scared me. I think they were, like, the scariest monsters around, and I was very young and... I just think aloud sometimes." She scratched her horn. "Are you thirsty? I can buy you a drink or something..."
The ghoul went silent for a moment.
"...I'll buy you a drink. Worm juice is ok?"

Despite being hurt, she felt even worse when she heard the distress and panic in the Demoness' voice. What was left of her lip jutted out in a light pout, her hands twisting and fidgeting with a lock of her black hair. Now she felt terrible, and it wasn't her intention to upset Claire! Though Claire did upset her first...
"It...It's okay!" She muttered awkwardly. The sincerity was clear in Claire's voice, and she wasn't quite sure how to react to it. "No, no it's okay you d-don't have to get me anything!" This situation was going from interesting to terrible, and the guilt of making the ghoul upset for a mix up of words was weighing on her.
"I'm...I'm really s-sorry, Claire." Amrita stammered, moving to stand and gathering up her pumpkin. "But..But I should probably, um, head back...I'm really sorry! I'll...I'll see you later, okay?"
Then, hopefully, she made a fast exit.
