Chapter 1 - Life Sucks After Death Prologue - The Nightmare It was such a beautiful night as I sat outside staring absent-mindedly at the full moon. I shivered as the cold wind blew on my exposed skin. “Elena…?” Stefan said as he approached me on the porch. His arms were tight around me now. My hands were around him instantly, resting on his back. I could feel that it was hot and sweaty. I knew straight away he ran to meet me. He kissed me on the head lightly. I closed my eyes as my head was leaned against his fervent body. I turned my head and started to kiss his chest, then along his elongate neck until our lips met. There was something unusual the way he kissed me. It was too strong, there was too much tension. My heart pounded rapidly, making the blood in my body flow faster, making my body overheat. I tried to push him away, but his strong arms held me tight against his body. I was running out of air quickly. Then Stefan’s body turned ice cold, I shivered and tried pushing him away. Suddenly he let go. I opened my eyes in shock. I had no idea what had just happened. I grabbed hold of one of the poles supporting the porch roof, grasping for air. As my breathing returned to normal, I looked up surprised to see Damon standing there with a huge smile on his face. I started to panic. “Wow Elena, I must say. You’re a good kisser.” He shrieked. Suddenly I felt pain, burning pain all over my body. Blood poured out of my mouth, I couldn’t control it. I swallowed a mouth-full of blood, but this made me throw it back up. Then things got worse. My legs began to tremble, they turned blue, then frozen solid. I collapsed to the ground at once. “What’s happening to me?” I screamed in horror.

Chapter One - The Stranger “Nooo…” I shouted as I woke up suddenly. My body temperature wasn’t normal. I was all hot and sticky, my throat had become dry. There was a sudden knock at the door, and then I heard it open. I couldn’t see much as my vision was blurry at the time. “Elena…?” a soft voice called from the door. My eyes adjusted to the dark room slowly. “Who is it?” I said, my voice sounded terrible. “It’s Jermey. Here have some water.” He was by my side in no time as he handed me the cup of water. I drank rapidly, not pausing as I drank it all in one go. “Thanks.” I whispered, placing the glass on the desk next to my bed. I released a long yawn. His hand touched my shoulder. “Are you okay…? I heard some screaming from your room so I came quickly to check on you before you woke up the whole neighbourhood.” “I fine, just had a bad dream…am I really that loud?” I asked. “Yeah, I can here you from the next room. You snore like an elephant.” He teased. “Hey! I do not snore.” I argued. My eyes searched the room for my digital alarm clock. I came across red numbers indicating it was 2 a.m. “Are you serious? It’s two in the morning.” I whispered in frustration. “I’m sorry I woke you Jermey, really.” “That’s okay, I worry about you Elena, you know.” “Yes, I know.” “Are you okay to go back to sleep?” he asked. I yawned. “Yes, I don’t want to keep you up any longer.” He tucked me in then went back to his room. I couldn’t sleep as I tossed and turned in bed during that night. The cold wind blew through my window which made me shivered. I got up slowly and walked towards my open window. “Ouch!” I whispered in pain. Suddenly, out of nowhere something small hit me on my shoulder. I looked to see what it was. There was a round object lying on the floor. I picked it up to see it closely. As I examined it in the moonlight I noticed that it was a rock, but not just a rock a moonstone. “Ouch!” the rock started to burn my hand, I dropped it immediately. It cut me, I could see blood oozing out of the freshly cut wound. I concentrated hardly to see who throw it through my window. Then suddenly I spotted a black figure standing there. I could tell it was a boy because the figure showed short hair and a muscular body outline in the moonlight. I couldn’t see who it was properly. “Come get me.” He said in a musical tone. Then he turned and jogged away slowly. I couldn’t think properly. My head was empty; I had no idea what to do. My hands automatically grabbed my jacket, joggers and a small torch. It was a little difficult climbing out my window as I couldn’t think straight at the moment, but I managed to get down safely. I turned my head rapidly left to right, right to left to spot movement of the boy. Then at the corner of my eye I caught him running, now faster. I started to run after him, trying to catch up. I wanted to yell, scream shout out to him but I couldn’t as I was occupied breathing heavily through my mouth. He rounded the corner of the street. As I rounded it too I realised that I had lost him as I could not see him anywhere. I stopped running and began to walk because there was nothing to run after anymore. I noticed that I ended up at the end of the street. I could not see any street lights as they were far behind me. All of a sudden I walked into something causing a ‘thud’ noise. It was a big tall tree, then I noticed more trees and suddenly it came to my attention that it was a forest. I hadn’t realised that I had hit my head in the tree until a sudden pain struck my forehead. I rested one of my hands on one of the trees so I could catch my breath and the other on my forehead. The wind made me shiver as it was very cold here. Holding my jacket tight around me, something fell to the ground which made me jump and hit the back of my head. I began to see pink elephants dancing around me. It was my torch that had fallen from my pocket. I reached for my torch and switched it on. I could tell it needed new batteries as the light was fading a bit. Pointing the torch in front of me I discovered a small pathway leading into the forest. The top half of my body didn’t seem to work as the bottom half started to walk into the forest. I walked slowly through the bush. I could hear branches snap under my feet. I had to brush away spider webs that were in the way. ‘Elena, what are you doing?’ a voice said in my head, ‘...you shouldn’t be here. Go home. Turn back now, it’s too dangerous…’ then voice faded away. Suddenly I came across a big piece of rusted metal. It looked like a sign, there lying on the ground half covered in braches and weeds. I picked it up to have a closer look but I could barely see read it. I could only see fated letters reading:
BEWARE!
I moved my torch down the old piece of tin to discover a picture of an animal. I held the metal close to me face to see what the animal was. I realised after the brief seconds, the animal was a bear. I dropped the sign immediately and began to walk fast, nearly running. I started to panic. I couldn’t see where I was going nor where I was anymore. I felt like I was going to collapse then and there. “Ah…” I yelled as I tripped over a think branch and fell to the ground. My torch fell out of my hand and rolled away. “Damn!” I said angrily, still lying on the wet, cold ground. “You know you need to be a bit more careful Katerina.” A soft male voice spoke. Panic struck me, my heart jumped. “Katerina I think its time to talk.” He said. I quickly stood up and held my fists in front of me as self defence. “W-Who are you? H-How do you know my name?” I asked. He didn’t say anything nor heard him approach me. His cold hand touched my right fist, he managed to open it without struggling and put something there. It was cold and wet, but I recognised that it was my torch. I searched for the switch nervously with my fingers, but before I could switch it on I ended up on the ground again, this time with the stranger. “Get off…”I struggled to say as his cold hand was over my mouth. His body was so strong on mine that I couldn’t breathe properly. “Stay still, something is close.” He whispered in my ear. I could not hear anything besides the wind blowing violently against the branches and the insects. He was still on top of me. He didn’t get off me for awhile until I hit him with my torch. His cold body made me shiver. “Sorry.” He said as he removed himself off me and pulled me up. “What the hell is wrong with you?” I asked frustrated. He made a small gap between us, but I could still feel that we were too close. “Sorry.” He said again. I concentrated hard to see who it was. I noticed he was much taller than me which made me step back but he grabbed me suddenly as if I was going to fall. “Katerina…” he said, “…I need to take you somewhere.” Suddenly I ended up in his arms, I was speechless. I wanted to shout, scream, and cry all at the same time. “Who are you?” I managed to say. “Don’t you…” he seemed shocked, “…it’s been a while. I’m not sure if you still remember me. I’m your boyfriend Katerina. I’m Damon.” I was stunned at what he had just said. ‘Your boyfriend?!’ What is he playing at here? This is so not my night. “What are you talking about?” I asked, “Wait don’t answer that, I’m going home. Let go of me!” I was struggling in his arms for him to let go but his arms were like metal holding me tight against his chest. I couldn’t breathe properly, I started to hyperventilate. He noticed that I wasn’t breathing normal so he let go of me. I turned and stormed off but I didn’t know where I was going as it was the same all around me. “Katerina please don’t go! You must remind.” He reached out and touched my arm. The touch may me shiver as his hand was ice cold. "Why do you kepp calling me Katerina, I'm not Katerina my name is Elena." I shouted "What, but you look so much like her, everything about her....Katerina" he said. Before I could answer he swung me around pulling me close to him and in seconds his cold lips touched mine. I wanted to push him away, I wanted to run far away, but I couldn’t as I was a magnet to his sweet cold lips. His arms were tight around me, on my hips. The kissed lasted a while, it felt so familiar, familiar as to the kiss in my dream, but a more comforting and calm. Then the voice in my head returned, ‘Elena no, run away, go back home!’ He let go. Tears formed in my eyes, I couldn’t believe him, how could he? How could I? I push him away and turn to run off. “Elena wait!” he shouted. “No!” I screamed. Tears ran down my face rapidly, I couldn’t see where I was going, my vision was blurry. I was hitting many branches as I didn’t know which way I was going. I just want to get away from him, to be alone so I can cry all I wanted to. This is so unfair. “I’m sorry.” That was all I heard as his voice drifted I tripped over a large branch, hitting the ground harder this time. Then I heard a voice. I looked up to see Stefan bending down and lending his hand. “Oh, Stefan…” That was all I could say as he held me in his strong arms. “Elena, you’re safe now, go to sleep.” He whispered in my ear.

Chapter Two - The Accident My alarm went off so I got up to get dressed. The muscles in my legs were throbbing in pain and my wrist was wrapped up. I wore a long shirt to cover my wrist and long black shorts to cover the bruise that I got from falling last night. I splashed my face with water to refresh myself. “Morning Elena.” greeted Jeremy as I appeared at the bottom of the stairs. “Hi Jer, is Stefan here yet?” I asked. “He is out front waiting.” He said as he passed my two slices of toast and a glass of orange juice. “Thanks.” “No problem. I’m off and don’t do anything irrational while I gone.” He teased. “What would I possibly do that would be irrational?” I asked sarcastically rolling my eyes. “Set the house on fire.” He teased again. “Bye”, he said running out the door before I was tempted to throw something at him for making fun of my clumsiness. Just because I clumsy doesn’t mean I should be treated like a five year old. Dad just pushes it too far sometimes. As I finished my breakfast I went straight to my room and hopped in the shower, the got dressed in some casual clothes I went to dry my hair. My hair was too long. It really annoyed me a lot when I brush it. Finally I finished drying, brushing and curling my hair I went to switch on the computer. Before I could push the on button I noticed a small box on my bed. I took it between my hands and examined the outside before opening it. I came across a small tag. It read:
Elena, I'm Sorry, Forgive Me Damon
It was from Damon. I opened the box, throwing the lid to the ground as I emptied whatever it was that was in the box on my bed. There was nothing, but a gold bracelet lying on my bed. I took it in my hands to examine it closely. There was something engraved on it but I couldn’t read it as it was so small. So I put it under a magnify glass. It read:
Happy 17th Birthday Elena
I also notice a small gold locket daggling from it. The locket had a flower pattern on it which was purple. My hands trembled around the bracelet, I couldn’t stare at it any long, I couldn’t hold it any long, so I quickly threw it back in the box and chucked it in the bin. I ran downstairs furiously stomping, suddenly stopping to see Stefan, standing outside the front door. I was about to fall the rest of the way down but I managed to grab hold of the staircase barrier. . “Hello.” He greeted me. "Hey" I said grabbing him, Let's go." As we walked to Stefan's 1967 Black Chevvy I noticed Damon. Our eyes met. "What is Damon doing here? He doesn't go to school." I whispered to Stefan. I could see Damon smiling from the car. "About that, we need to talk." Stefan said.
