I am really worried that we are on the brink of another world war. What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think there is anything a peaceful community can do to perhaps prevent this man-made calamity?

I sadly don't know a whole lot about the state of North Korea right now. But I do worry about our future, after hearing about the recent firing at South Korea... and of course the state of the world vs. the radical sects of Islam and fundamentalist Christianity. I'm really at a loss for what to do, but I do wish I could do something.

The state of North Korea is a deplorable one. There are at least 10 confirmed 'work camps' that imprison and work people to death. In this last year alone 300,000 people died of starvation because of the strict food rationing the government has put into place. People aren't allowed to even sing or play certain things or they will be arrested and thrown into a camp they will most likely die in. They have even imprisoned children as young as three months old.
These conditions along with the militant attitude of their government officials are classic signs of a second clash of interests. It worries me because no one seems worried. That is what happened last time. Everyone just assumed that it wasn't their problem, but it turned out that as human beings we have a responsibility to our fellow man. If someone's life is being hurt, or destroyed we have the obligation to do something about it. Even if it is another person causing that pain and anguish.
So, that is why I made this thread. I wonder if there is something a peaceful, like-minded community can do to prevent such a cataclysm? I don't think there has to be any more bloodshed than there already is. I just hope that I'm not the only one... it sure feels like it.

After seeing things in the news recently, it does put worrying thoughts into my mind. However, I have no idea what 'common' people can do. Write letters to politicians? Try to spread awareness and educate others? Maybe, I don't know. I do know, that being an average min. wage working class citizen, it's very easy for me (and others I know) to fall into the "It's out of our hands, so we won't worry about it too much" group of people. (which, I'll admit, is a very sad state of mind to have).

We've been talking about this in my political science class. America is pushing South Korea to attack North Korea, but our target is China. The reason is the pipe line in the middle east. We're after the oil. If any of us live through attacking China and if we haven't learned how stupid these acts of greed are, we'll most likely be targeting Russia.

I know I can probably get in big trouble for saying this, but honestly the only way to prevent this from happening is most likely to establish a new government. We can send letters, they will be ignored. We can make calls, they will be ignored. We can incite marches and movements, we will be silenced. We can rebel and eventually we will win. Failure would mean there's nobody left in America to be led so America would have already lost. It's a no-win situation for the people trying to cause war in countries that only want to survive.

That is the problem with a lot of people, and a lot of charitable functions these days. I do believe that we should as a people of the world educate the masses as to what is going on around us, and right under our noses. I am in the same financial boat as a lot of people(You know unemployed and on the verge of losing one's house.) Instead of thinking like that, which is the problem. That is where we fail to see an impending doom upon the world, we think there is nothing we can do. That is because from a buddhist perspective, people are still thinking too much about themselves and too much about their possessions that they are not willing to fight for anything. In order to really help I think we as a people need to relinquish our worldly bounds and take the North Korean community where it counts. Look at things from their perspectives and get into their mindset so that we may better understand how to help them(this is also the same with the War in Iraq).
If we want to peacefully end the war, we have to be willing to risk a lot. I'm not sure exactly what we are to do from there, but if we can do that, we can make a huge difference. I think.
