"Don't go too far okay, and stay where I can see you alright?" Amy called out, pulling on her shades as she watched Mara nod her head. It was a crisp day, but there was snow out and Mara seemed to be enjoying it well enough. Bundled in enough layers to make her round and just a tiny bit adorable, Amy watched as Mara trudged along the fluffy snow with a dragon chew toy dragging a path behind her. Between the bright green dragon, the bright red hair and the rather alarmingly blue coat, it would be hard for the woman to lose the child in the park.
Knock on wood, of course.
Settling down with a magazine, she kept the occasional glance out to watch as Mara settled herself in between the playground and the trees, having set the dragon down next to her and happily created a tiny snow hill. She was silent, her gaze focused as she did this, pausing every once in a while to turn to chat to the dragon.
Maybe the child was having her first imaginary friends, or maybe there was someone there that Mara herself could not see. Whatever it was, it was cute. And so far harmless.
So far.
Mara turned to see Amy settle back with the magazine and grinned to herself as she nudged the dragon. They were creating a white castle for it to rule, and to let the dragon feel better. It was her favorite chew toy at the moment, and the tail was mangled enough for Mara to feel bad.
Her warrior dragon, who was going to look down a tiny town from his perch on the mountain.
Er... as soon as she built the town.

So, climbing trees in the middle of winter was probably not a good idea. But, Dimitri had never been known for his 'good ideas'. More for his 'stupidly reckless' ideas.
This is what ended him up, suspended from a rope made out of car seat belts and climbing clips, hanging from the higher branches of a tree in the park.
Grunting, he swung himself, trying to get a good hold on the tree again. But the icy branches wouldn't accept his grip, and he slipped away yet again.
"Stupid...tree..." He panted, glowering at it. Nature was out to get him. Scowling, the red head looked around for something that would help. Thankfully, he'd had enough sense to fashion a makeshift harness for himself, so he wouldn't end up strangling himself. It was also good for keeping him in the tree, as anyone who happened to look up would see. As long as it didn't break, he would be in the tree for eve-
Wait. That was it! The harness had to break!
Wiggling, he reached around to his adventure kit - a small backpack he had fastened on his back, filled with all sorts of goodies. Some fell out as he dug blindly in the pockets, searching for his best tool. The compass, a flashlight, and a bag of cheesy poofs fell to the ground below before he finally grabbed it. His swiss army knife. Snapping it open, he began to saw at the straps of the harness. It was slow work, but finally, they snapped.
He hadn't been counting on how far he had to fall. Yelling, he tried to grab at the tree as he fell, but to no avail. The ice thwarted him again, and he hit the snow with a loud THUD.
His knife, thankfully, landed a few feet away.
Groaning, he curled into a ball, clutching his sides and breathing heavily. Not his best idea ever.

The villagers were trying to attack the dragon lord! Maya paused as she frowned at the makeshift town (really just small crumbled balls of snow splayed out in a haphazard fashion). Well, the town wasn't complete enough to have little villagers try to attack her dragon, and if it wasn't from the villagers then... with a frown, she looked up and around and both saw and felt the thump as something small fell from the tree. Oh my! Was that...
Alarmed, she scrabbled up, grabbing her dragon and moved forwards. Dragon lord to the rescue! Rushing over she stopped over and bent form and frowned. The child definitely seemed to be in pain, but what could she do to help him out? Why he had fallen from the tree she didn't know. Her gaze flew up to see strange black straps, and wondered if maybe he had flown from the sky and had ended up instead getting caught in the tree on the way down. That must be it.
"Alright?" she asked, pausing as she looked at her dragon. Well, definitely not, and maybe her chew toy was reprimanding her but she felt a little bit silly asking. Reaching out to pat him, she made soft cooing noises. That helped whenever she fell, and Amy said that it helped make the pain go away. Well...it had never worked with her to be quite frank, but maybe it would work with someone else.

Alright? No, of course he wasn't alright! He had just fallen out of a TREE. Of course, as he cracked one eye opened and spotted a little girl, he knew he couldn't exactly yell at her. Groaning, he pushed himself into a sitting position, holding his side and grinning, wincing all the way. The cooing was a bit weird. But he could work with it. "Er...yeah...I'm good..." He knew this kid from somewhere, didn't he? Hadn't he seen her before? Ah, whatever. It didn't matter.
He inched away from her patting and cooing, smiling awkwardly. His side was beginning to feel better, and he suspected it was a bit bruised, and he'd only gotten the wind knocked out of him. But, he grinned, and let her think the cooing had worked. Whatever it was for, he assumed it was to help her. "Thanks. That's a nice dragon you've got. Does he have a name?" He wasn't entirely sure that he could stand and walk, yet, so he might as well sit and talk to the kid.

Maya brightened. So this whole 'shh shh' thing worked did it? Maybe she was the strange one! Not knowing why the mystical power of mom'ness actually had magic, she instead decided to take the fact that he seemed better as a divine sign of dragon lord's power. Well, if he was alright, thats all that mattered, wasn't it? She frowned, appraising him. Falling into things, hurting oneself... oh, she DID know this one!
"DVD!" she exclaimed, entirely ignoring the second question. Wait. He had said dragon. Did he know the indestructible power of the dragon lord as well? Pausing, she looked down at the chew toy and held it up. Actually, even Amy didn't seem to like to touch her toys (something about germs... huh.) but at least she could show it to this boy at a closer light.
He was pretty funny, always flying into things.
"No, no name." he didn't need a name, did he? HE was dragon lord, the fearsome protector of villages! Maybe that was enough. Besides. What was she supposed to call it?
"Dragon?"

DVD? Oh! That explained it!
"Oh, hey, you're Maya, aren't you? From the video store." He grinned. "He's just called Dragon? Well that's alright. What're you doing here?" He looked around. "You're mom's probably around here, huh?" He hoped she didn't go get her. An adult would probably yell at him, or berate him for climbing trees. Or, worse, she'd tell Viktor.
"Dragon sounds like a good name..." He spotted his things on the ground, and resolved to get up and get them. It took some determination, but he stumbled to his feet, grabbed his compass, flash light, and cheesy poofs. The knife, however, was missing.
"Ah, no!" he gaped, staring around at the snow around them. "I lost my knife..."

Maya grinned at the compliment, nodding her head. She was creative, wasn't she? Inspiring really, the things she could come up with last minute. At the comment about Amy, she looked up and over to see that Amy was busy still reading the magazine: well, no matter. It wasn't really any concern of hers if the woman liked to look at clothes. All. Day.
Knife?
Concerned, Maya got up, clutching at Dragon as she did so. He'd lost something? She'd help him... wait was that cheesy poofs he had just collected? Yum.
"Treasure hunt!" she exclaimed.
Yes, treasure hunt for a knife. Then she'd trade it for cheesy poofs.

"Yeah! Tresure hunt. Look, it's about this long, red, and silver. Okay? I don't know where it fell..." His dad would kill him if he lost it. It had used to be his, when he was younger, and it was one of Dimitri's most prized posessions. He frowned as he dropped down to his knees in the snow, digging around where his other things had fallen to no avail. So, it wasn't there. Where could it be?
He hoped Maya would find it; and if she did, he wouldn't even mind trading the cheesy poofs for it. Balto would understand. They had been a gift for the lonely Shadow, but he could always get more. A bigger bag, maybe. It didn't matter, really. He just wanted his knife.

Maya frowned as she mimicked the boy, dropping to her hands and knees. Read and silver, and long? She knew what a knife was, and something red couldn't possible be hidden for too long in the snow... it would make no sense, would it? After all, the snow was all white.
Dragon lord would help. Looking over at her chew toy and deciding that the chew toy would do better if left to his own devices, she used both hands to pat around.
He had fallen from a tree, right? Everything else had also fallen to the ground so it must be...
RED!
Deciding that there wouldn't be anything else in the snow that could be red, she pointed to a patch of snow partially hidden behind the tree.
There? Maybe.
"Knife?"

Dimitri spun as Maya pointed and spoke of his knife. Sure enough, there was the handle, sticking up out of the snow. At least it hadn't stabbed anyone, or anything. He hurried over, limping slightly, and snatched it up.
"Yes! Thank you Maya." He tossed her a grin, flipping it shut and putting it back in his bag, where it wouldn't hurt anyone. "You are officially the greatest." Maybe she could give Katia some pointers on how to not suck so hard. Really, had his sister been here, she would have told him to look for it himself and not be an idiot. Of course, Maya was only a toddler...
But whatever. She was still better than Katia.
"So...whatcha playin?" He asked, looking over at where she had been. He could see...something, made out of snow, but he wasn't sure what it was, exactly.

So it was the knife! Sliding a glance over at the dragon lord, she grinned. Well, maybe she was better at finding things than her chew toy, because she'd just been told she was the greatest. Wasn't that the nicest thing to hear? Watching him put away the knife, she wondered why he had it on him anyways. What a strange boy to have to carry all that stuff by himself. Amy carried everything she needed and...
Looking over at the snow, she brightened. Ah, her town, was it! Maybe it was a little bit mangled. Trudging back over and sitting on the ground, she looked back at Dimitri and patted the snow next to her.
"Hero!" she exclaimed. There, see, was "Town." and over here, on the little slope as her dragon lord. Emphasizing this by placing him on the little mound, she grinned. "Hero."

"Hero? I've only ever seen one dragon be a hero, an' that was in Dragonheart. All the other dragons I know destroy towns. That's his town, right?" He grinned as he followed Maya over, crouching down beside her.
"So, what, is he like, their lord or something?" Ah, how perceptive the little prince was. He cocked his head to the side, and examined the small town.
"If he's a lord, we should make him a castle. And a bigger town!" He grinned at her, brightly. "How 'bout it?"

This boy was a genius! Nodding her head, she reached out to pat her ambitious little dragon. A castle, a bigger town? Well now, she'd found someone who thought just like her, and someone her dragon could appreciate!
"CASTLE!"
She'd seen pictures of Amy as a child when she'd gone to the beach to build sand castles. Amy had said next year when it was hot and balmy, they would do the same, and so far Maya had never built anything remotely ambitious. Mounds, 'towns'... and that was about it. Her gaze was bright eyed and curious as she stared at Dimitri.
Then she frowned, staring intently at the snow in front of them.
"How?"
It was going to be a beautiful castle: her dragon would be so proud!

"Well..." Dimitri said, pulling his bag off his back and setting it on the ground a little ways away. "We need to make a big pile of snow. Then we shape it into a castle. It would work better if we had buckets, but we can do it without them." Would Maya understand what he meant? He could only assume so. She seemed to be following everything else pretty clearly.
"Like this." He scooped an armful of snow up, patted it into a pile, and began to shape a cone shaped tower with his gloved hands. "See? That's a turret." He smiled. "We can have a moat and a wall and turrets and towers. Yeah?"

Maya was happy. She was close to ecstatic, and it all had to do with the brains and the hands of this boy who was going to play castle building with her. Nodding her head, she focused on the mound of snow in front of her, darting quick (and in her mind, extremely subtle) glances at the little cone shaped tower that was beginning to form under Dimitri's hands.
She could do this.
"Whats a moat?" she asked, focusing on the snow and disliking the way it crumbled so easily in her hands.
This had to get easier, right?
Buckets. Next time she came out, she was going to get Amy to let her bring buckets.
