Was watching a bunch of drummer vids at drummersworld (not that I am one) and something reminded me of David King- I don't know if you have heard of him or not, but I saw him in concert last summer and was totally amazed...He did some crazy s**t. You know those apples for kids with bells inside them? He had one of those and he was hitting it in between the different drums on his kit and it sounded so wierd...Plus doing the same thing with his sticks and brush...He had washboards and god know what else...It was so wierd! He was awesome.
So was the rest of the band though- the Bad Plus. The pianist was..wow. dude. Never thought you could do that to a piano but apparently you could. The bassist (on an upright) looked a bit like a hobbit but more to the point is that the sound coming out of it was crazy. He was totally into his instrument too, leaning in, ear to board, rocking back and forth, turning around, only noticing the audience when the song was over. The other two were like that too- they were great to watch, I don't think they would be as good on CD, although that might be because I can't find any...
Let me know if you know them- they rocked.

Big deal, they're not the first. xp

Check out Alex Skolnick's album -- Goodbye To Romance: Standards For a New Age (It doesn't cover that song, however, War Pigs is covered)

A lot of '70s classic rock songs (and about two metal songs) given jazz make-overs.

This group has been playing in a lot of the late night sets at the festivals my band has been to in recent years. They are a big hit in Europe, I think they were at the Verona Jazz festival, and just earlier this year they played at the IAJE conference. Very energetic group. The names of their tunes are hilarious!

Oh awesome! Wish they'd come up here more often, but the jazz audience isin't huge. Lucky you.

I've seen David King live twice, once with Happy Apple, and once with The Bad Plus. He does some pretty cool stuff.
