Just a quick reminder from your friendly neighborhood Spiderman Obliviator. smile
While roaming the streets of London, loaded down with shopping bags and perhaps enjoying the sights, please keep in mind the laws the Ministry has imposed for your personal safety, and the livelihood of our magical community. While it is not illegal to perform magic in “muggle” inhabited areas - such as the subway, restaurants, and hotels - it is against the law to perform it in the presence of muggles, which puts all of us at risk. Hefty fines and jail time are almost always in order when magical citizens violate the Ministry’s secrecy and discretion laws.
Even in the privacy of a restroom or perhaps beneath the table during lunch, there is a risk that your magic can be witnessed by muggles. You may think no one is watching, but there are security cameras and nosy teenagers everywhere. Prying eyes can lead to a lot of trouble for you, for the Ministry of Magic, and for your muggle peers.
With modern technology like cellphone cameras and instant online venues like Youtube for accidental muggle witnesses to spread their findings, it has become incredibly difficult to seek out muggles who have inadvertently learned of our community to adjust their memories. Therefore each violation of Ministry policy is serious business - all it takes is one uploaded video of a bit of wand waving to appear on the evening news for us all to be in danger.
So do yourself a favor - avoid some weekend jail time and just keep your wand in your pocket this weekend.
Cheers,
