It had taken far longer than Cordelia would have liked to get back into the proper swing of things after the course of events that had taken away months of her teenage life. She had started with school first, followed closely by socializing and then, with the encouragement of her friend and confidant, she had started to patrol again.
From time to time patrols would find her pairing up with Eridanus and occasionally Alshain, but more often than not they were with Sailor Saiph... Not because she didn't enjoy the company of the boys, no, but because it was much easier to talk about them when they weren't around.
"So... Do you have any idea what we should get the boys for Christmas?"

Settling herself comfortably on the rooftop, Saiph made sure she could still see the streets below while she considered her friend's question. After a moment, she shook her head and chuckled.
"Not a clue. I haven't had time to really root through Hammie's stuff to try and get ideas. I know he likes camping and Ren Faire stuff, that's about it. And you'd know Oddy better than me."
It seemed odd to the green-haired girl to be thinking of something like Christmas after all of the terrible things that had happened since this time last year. Between terrible nightmares, freaky dreamworlds, comas, and Rainbow Crystals, she wasn't quite in the right mental place to consider something like Christmas. Still, it was pleasant to think about and know that she could still have something normal.
"Yeah, not a single good idea. You?"

"Not a thing." She sighed heavily as she leaned back on her hands, her own eyes drifting away from the street beneath them as Saiph's went down. Her focus seemed to be on the cool, crisp night air and the dozens of twinkling stars above.
"I want... I want to do something special. Is that silly? I mean... What the hell am I talking about. Of course it's silly. We spend our nights out here fighting crime and here I am pondering dopey things like what I should get people for a Christmas that we may or may not even get to celebrate." Huffing softly the Senshi of Vengeance tossed her hands up into the air, momentarily losing a bit of her balance before they went back down to steady her body from teetering.
"This time last year... My biggest concern was that the snowball I lobbed didn't hit Ronnie in her big, stupid head." Her brow furrowed. "I... Kind of miss her, you know. For the normal teenage rivalry as opposed to the Moon Kingdom vs. Nega Trash stuff. Maybe... Maybe that's why I want to do something nice for the boys for Christmas."

"No, I can understand that," Saiph replied softly, her amber eyes turning inward for a moment in thought. "I think almost too much has happened this year. We haven't really gotten any time to decompress and figure out things yet."
Saiph went silent for a moment before grinning and tilting her head up to watch the stars.
"I'd almost forgotten. Auntie told me to tell you that she wants to do something nice for you and Oddy for Christmas since you two, and I quote, 'dragged me out of my dinosaur bone prison'. She's happy to see me being more outgoing and doing what she thinks of as normal teenager stuff. And I can predict what Hammie will give us. Coordinating wench costumes has my vote."
She was shamelessly aiming to lighten her friend's mood. If her Aunt couldn't do it, then being reminded of Hammie's admiration of their "assets" would.

"There really -is- a lot to figure out, isn't there..." Her nose wrinkled for a brief moment and then she laughed. "Well, I don't see how that's a gift for us as much as it would be a gift for him if we ever wore them. He really is something, you know..." Even if she wasn't sure what that something was beyond her best friend's incredibly attractive older boyfriend.
"C'mon. It's pretty quiet up here... How about we drop down to the streets and do a bit of window shopping? It's late enough that no one else should be about. Maybe we'll get some ideas." A bright smile lit her face as she pushed herself up onto her feet, hands stretching out above her head as she tried to work out a few tiny kinks.
"Your Aunt could always come with you over to my house for Christmas. My parents always do a lovely little thing for Christmas Eve..."

Laughing, the girl nodded with Corvus' summation of her boyfriend. Hammie was something. And he was something special. She felt that in her gut, even if she wasn't sure why she felt that way.
"He sees it as a gift that gives back, I think," she murmured as Corvus made her suggestion. Within moments Saiph was on her feet and darting for the edge of the roof. Glancing over her shoulder, she winked and called out, "Works for me. Last one down's a rotten egg!"
Leaping into the sky, she marveled at how, in spite of all the seriousness she could still manage to find little ways to help cheer herself up. But she'd wait til they hit ground to ask what it was Corvus' parents did for Christmas Eve.

"A rotten egg? Really? Is that the best you could think of?" She laughed as she watched Saiph descend the building for a moment before following after her friend, putting all of the practice she'd gotten in agility to work in doing so. It was hard to believe just how much of a rush it was to be in motion, even if that movement was just leaping from rooftop to fire escape and from there to the ground.
Corvus landed beside her comrade with the soft sound of heels hitting pavement. Her eyes drifted around to survey the area as her hands smoothed her skirt back into place. "He just wants an excuse to comment on my rack without you clobbering him." She smirked as she stepped out of the alley and onto the street. "What do you think the two of them talk about when they're on patrol together?"

Landing gracefully, Saiph reached a hand up to push a wayward strand of hair from her face. Mock-scowling, she stuck her tongue out and made a raspberry.
"I was in a hurry to get down here, so yes. Yes it was. And I think he's more in danger of you clobbering him than me. I just withhold make-outs."
Glancing down the streets, she stretched idly and followed after Corvus. She thought for a moment, trying to imagine what Eridanus and Alshain might talk about when they were off by themselves. After a moment of this, she shook her head.
"Hrmm... somehow I can't see them gossiping much. Maybe commiserating over not having awesome nicknames like the Goddamn Batman and Jaws Junior. Or they just talk about our racks where they know they'll be safe."
After a moments chuckle at the expense of the boys, she cocked her head and wandered over to a dimly lit window to admire the display. She was impressed. She didn't know of many places that would take the time to recreate the window display from A Christmas Story.
"So what is it your parents do for Christmas Eve? Auntie and I have never really done anything since she travels so much."

"I bet... They just sit there and watch things quietly. They probably don't talk all that much... Or they trade off horrible jokes." She snorted softly, shaking her head slowly. Some of Oddy's jokes were just horrible, although they usually made her laugh.
"They usually make a nice dinner and let me invite some friends over... Exchange fancy little gifts around the tree, sing songs... You know, all of that typical fancy family stuff. It would be great for you to come over if you wanted to."

"That sounds really nice. If it's really okay, I think I will. And I'll drag my aunt too. She works too much."
Pot meet kettle, Saiph thought. I work as much as she does even if it's not working in the traditional sense. A feeling of gloom was creeping over her. To stave it off, she gave herself a tiny shake and pointed at the window display.
"I almost want to get that Red Rider cutout for Oddy. But i am fairly certain it would be difficult to wrap. I am also fairly certain that it's not quite special enough. I want to get you guys nice things."

"I can ask my parents over dinner on Sunday." She nodded, smiling. "It would be really nice, I think... And then you could meet my cousin too. He's... ugh, he's such a hermit, really. I suppose a good bit of that is my fault, given what happened the last time I asked him to come over and meet my friends." Her brow furrowed as she glanced down, only tugging herself out of it to look where Saiph pointed.
"I thought... About getting him a gift card to that one shoe store at the mall, because I know he's starting to wear through those tacky red cowboy boots of his and I don't think he'd want me to just buy him a pair without trying them on, but..." Corvus managed a smile. "I just want to be able to spend normal, Nega-free holiday time with you guys. Nice things would just be a bonus after that."

Raising her hand, Saiph pulled a solemn face, but was unable to keep the twinkle of mischief from her eyes.
"If he comes over, I promise I won't traumatize your cousin. And as for gifts, what would you say to gifts that are somewhat coordinated? Like themed and tailored to Oddy and Hammie? Like, if you got him something to get boots, I could get him a really nice cowboy hate to match or something? I don't know."
A little worm of an idea was beginning to sprout in Saiph's mind as far as gift giving went. But she wanted to test the waters first or her idea wouldn't be ANY fun.

"He doesn't really have much of a choice. It's either he stays at Hillworth for the holiday," the look on her face spoke wonders for what she thought of that particular idea, "or he comes home. Demetri generally comes over too. We... Have this goofy thing where we bake cookies early in the afternoon so there's something to leave out for Santa..." There was a slight trace of a blush on her face as she mentioned that, as though she was almost afraid it would be a little bit too dorky, but she was sharing it anyways.
"We could go in on the boots and the hat... And maybe include a line dancing class or something? For all of us. It... It could be fun, really. Give us all something to do outside of..." She waved her hands around as if that would somehow summarize everything that their usual nights consisted of.

Okay, maybe the cookie thing was a little dorky. But it was also cute. Incredibly, insanely cute. So, rather than teasing, Saiph simply replied with, "Save some cookie making for me. I used to love baking cookies for Santa. I always forced my aunt to make improvised dinosaur cookie cutters. And I would make frosting santa hats for them."
At the mention of line dancing, though, Saiph's face went utterly blank. It wasn't that she didn't want to have some fun. But line dancing? Line. Dancing. Saiph was not a girl who could easily stomach country music. Having to dance to country music would be infinitely worse.
"How about ballroom dancing instead? Like, waltzing and tangos and that sort of stuff? But what I wanted to ask about was what you thought of making the boys work a little for their gifts? Like a clue hunt sort of thing, but each clue is a little silly present."
Saiph had played at such present hunts as a child and she remembered how much fun she'd had. How much fun her aunt had had. We need some fun, she thought. Before we turn into bitter old wrecks before our time.

"Ballroom dancing for us? Line dancing for them?" Her brow lofted slightly. "For all that I'm certain Oddy would wear those cowboy boots into a ballroom without breaking a sweat or batting an eye, they'd fit in a bit better somewhere else... And I bet you'd look great in a pair with some nice, tight jeans and a cute shirt? Might be worth the suffering." She smirked.
"We could always just wrap all of their stuff in a giant box... Do the whole nesting doll thing? How long do you think it would take them to find everything?"
