Xaivary was a wanderer. That was just how she was. Following whim or wind (and often both) to see where life took her... that was her thing, one might say. Every day was an opportunity to try and see something new, or at least look at something in a different way, and that was what Xai tried to do.
Usually her random forays took her mostly in and around places where she'd made friendships, and avoided places where she'd encountered hostility toward lone strangers. She would go somewhere different every once in a while, usually deviating from a trip to see someone or other as the mood struck her. There was one place, though, that drew her back even without intentionally heading out to see those she knew there.
The sea had some inexplicable appeal for her she couldn't put a hoof on. She was a creature of the earth and plains and woodlands. She had no real desire to see what lay beyond the shoreline aside from her usual mild curiosity. But watching the horizon, and the waves on the shore, and the wind shifting the sand... listening to the birds and soft rushing of the tides against the land... It stilled her. Always her feet and her mind and her heart wandered, but when she stood here and just stopped to be for a moment... she was still.
Not that even the sea could hold her for more than a few hours at best, and she usually didn't stay long, but Xai seemed to find herself here rather frequently. Compared to other destinations at least. In transit was a different story...
She had passed her "still time" now, though, and was pacing down the beach rather slowly. A bemused look had settled on her face as she wandered down the shoreline and watched the waves rush up and try to erase her hoof prints.

The young stallion picked his way along the seaside. This wasn't where his family resided, but the familiar, salty, breeze and the crashing waves were too hard to resist. The young stallion had taken a detour from his adventure away from home, and he found it amusing that his hooves had lead him back to the familiar landscape.
The ocean would always be his home, regardless how far away he roamed. The sea shells that were strewn along the sand was refreshing, though he missed the high cliffs where he had been born, and where his father often resided. Unlike his brother and sister, he had been born without wings and it was trickier for him to maneuver up to the cliffs. . . These sandy beaches were more his style, and he enjoyed the feel of the white-wash hitting his hooves and legs. The rhythm of the water was intoxicating, hypnotizing, and Hadrian truly felt at peace.
He would have to return to the ocean . . .someday. Some when. Some how. Even if he didn't choose to return where his family resided, he would have to live close enough to taste the salt on the breeze, to have the endless expanse of water greet him every morning and evening. He missed it already, and the homesickness that gripped his heart as he stared out at the vast expanse surprised him.
Oh well.
He was lucky, he knew, to have a family that loved him. Hadrian was unsure of where his siblings had gone, or even what his parents might be up to now that their children had all 'flown' the coop . . . but he kept their memories near and dear to his heart.
Trotting over a small dune and rounding the curve of the beach, movement caught his eye and allowed him time to focus. His blue gaze landed on what appeared to be a soquili . . .a female, of some sort. A mare. But she was donned in cloth that he had never seen the likes of before, and had a much more disheveled appearance than his own! Was that just from the gusty breeze or . . . was she just a bit wild in appearance?
Shaking back his own head of curls, the stallion trotted forward and nickered a greeting at her. "Good afternoon, m'lady," he wasn't about to drop formalities just because she was a bit peculiar in appearance. Who was he to judge, after all? He had pearls laced along his thigh, matching ear rings, and a necklace as well! His fathers jeweled armor rested against his legs and tail . . . truly he was just as odd a sigh as she!

The nicker floating through the breeze was enough to catch her attention from her musing at the waves, though barely. Xaivary peered at the oncoming stallion through her shaded goggles curiously, an eyebrow raising when he called her "m'lady" of all things. Reflexively she peered over her shoulder, but she already knew no one else was here; he was talking to her, there wasn't any way to mistake that.
"Yo." Eloquence wasn't exactly her strong suit in the first place, and he'd caught her a bit flat-footed with his choice of greeting anyway. "Is it afternoon already?" She peered upward at the sun's position, and sure enough, the glowing orb had shifted much farther than she'd realized. "Huh."
She looked back down, her gaze drifting past him and back down to the hoof prints slowly getting washed away in the sand. "D'you think it washes them away on purpose?" Was it trying to erase signs of disturbance, to pretend they weren't there? Or was it trying to reach out and find out about the things up on the land that it would never know, and taking little pieces of that back with it into the deep unknown?
Or was she thinking too hard about something silly again? That was probably it. "Hello, and good afternoon back, anyway."

The stallion was surprised at the mares choice of greeting. It was a bit unconventional, and startled him almost as much as the mare appeared surprised by his own greeting. Still, she wore unusual accessories and perhaps wasn't accustomed to his typical style of formality. To each their own, after all.
"It is indeed the afternoon. Have you been walking the beaches long?" The fact she seemed surprised that time had slipped away told him that perhaps she had lingered too long at the oceanside. "I've grown up on the ocean side all my life, and it still never fails to draw me in." He looked out at the waters, watching the waves sneak up to the shore before sliding back again. He could never live long without water and though he enjoyed his travels, the sea would forever beckon him to return. It was something he would never be able to shake, something he would never be able to turn away.
Glancing back at the brown coated mare, he gave a small smile at her words. "I think it the water is meant to wash upon the shore, to investigate what's new, changes in the sand. Of course, it does pull away the hoof prints, but I think it does so unintentionally. It takes them back with them, to the sea." Perhaps it wasn't true, but it was something to consider. He'd never really questioned the reason behind what the ocean did and didn't do, but it was as good a guess as he could figure.
Why shouldn't the sea be as curious about the shore as land dwellers were it? Still, the curled maned stallion realized he was being rude. Dipping his head in a bow, he introduced himself. "Forgive my rudeness, m'lady. I'm Hadrian, and I hope I haven't interrupted your walk."

It would be closer to mark to say that Xaivary was unused to any sort of formality, not just his particular brand. In fact that would hit the matter right on the head. That Xai held any form of mannerly conduct of her own was a testament to her personal desire not be a jerk to anyone unnecessarily, and that was about it.
She did note that he seemed to have been caught off-guard by her greeting about as much as she by his. It brought a faint smile of amusement to her lips. His further commentary drew her eyes out to the water once more. "Well, it was on the late end of mid-morning when I got here, so I suppose that counts as having been here a while?" She had no real response for his mention of his childhood. Her own was not something she discussed freely, and it had not been by an ocean either. The part about being drawn in, though... "It does seem to keep you coming back, huh?"
She simply nodded to his response to her philosophical queery. Xai wasn't sure she'd really expected that much of an answer, so it was sort of a pleasant surprise. "You ever hear the stories about the water Soquili? I've never seen one, but the stories persist, so I guess there must be some out there. Stranger things have happened, anyway."
Xaivary was waxing a bit on the whimsical and philosophical side today, it would seem. Still, he seemed keen enough on such things for the moment, so there was no harm in some idle exchange of ideas right? Though the culture gap became even more obvious than before when he apologized for... not introducing himself sooner? Heck, she'd had two hour conversations with random strangers where an exchange of names never occurred! It was more than a bit odd for her.
"Oh. Right. I'm Xaivary. You can call me Xai if you want. And... well, I was just wandering and pondering, not really a lot to interrupt."

Xaivery was indeed an unusual individual, but she was a mare, and as such deserved his utmost respect! So she wore some unusual clothing, and didn't seem to know what to make of his approach - who cared? She was friendly and amicable and he was going to be a gentleman around her - his family and taught him to be nothing less! Besides, her differences were unique and charming. . . it wasn't everyday he was greeted with a 'Yo'.
His tails wished a bit as he glanced back over to the ocean. It was such a familiar setting, and yet different all the same. "There's just something alluring about the oceans edge. The salt on the air, the chorus of waves that sing out, and the beauty of the water and surrounding beaches. . . it's a difficult place to fully shake, at least for me." Smiling back over to the brown coated mare, he considered her question.
"I've heard stories of water soquili, and have even spotted a few. There was a kelpie who lived a few miles off shore of my home, and he would occasionally visit my father. He was an intriguing individual, and I was but a colt the last I saw him, but he really was something else. I've heard of other types, but have yet to see them." Of course, Hadrian had seen much in his travels, as well as heard rumors of creature he was glad to have missed. He had been gone long, and was anxious to return to his home and family even though he was still terribly far from such a place.
"I suppose the waters have always held an air of mystery about them, and what might be found beneath the waves. Unfortunately, without gills, unless the waters someday part, it shall forever remain a mystery to me. For all my years of swimming, even I know my limitations!" The water was meant to be respected, for it was and could a cruel creature. How often had he heard stories of young ones getting swept away, or the fierce gales and storms that could leave destruction in their wake? No, the ocean was to respected, and there was some secrets it would always keep.
Dipping his head low, he bowed and smiled. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you m'lady Xaivary. I'm glad to know that I wasn't a complete cad by approaching without invitation. But I haven't seen many in my travels, and opportunity to meet another was too tempting to pass up."
