Wulf started the idea: a Final Fantasy Tactics system with the Levi/ Gaia characters integrated into it. I also had an idea of making a rpg based around my characters and other friends that have roleplayed with me. Because we have sharing goals, I figured "Hey, let's combine our ambitions and actually create the game." So I made this thread. This thread will be used for the discussion of mechanics, gameplay, and other things that relate to the project. This project will be codenamed Gaia CRPG. The name will be changed later. As we discuss, I will bullet list features that we agree/ or consider on this first post. If you have an expertise that you think you can contribute to this project, be free to say it here and I'll add you to the "Possible Team" list. If you have a character in mind that can be in this game, or even your own character, go ahead and post it here using the key in the Character Suggestions section below. Possible TeamVintrict - Programmer/ Artist (Sprite + Drawn) Uberwulf X - Music/ Consultant Tenkai Matsumoto - Art Character Suggestion KeyOwner of Character: Name: Job/ Class/ Expertise: Brief Info about character: Features Currently considering it to be a Tactics-based system, which uses a grid, turn based battle format and allows for a large number of characters to be in a party (though I wish to limit the number in a party at a time to make the player have to strategize more, as well as keep the complexity of the battles lower). Graphics will be akin to the 16 bit era of the SNES, or maybe lower, but is always subject for being higher resolutions. For now, this is the best graphic option for inexpensive reasons, both money-wise and time-wise. They're faster to make and easy to edit. Movement system will be tile based, much like in combat. That means characters can only move up, down, left or right. The animations won't be as glamorous, either. Once again, for simplicity's sake. Possibility of a "job system" that will be similar to Seiken Densetsu 3: each character will have a defined job system, but will be able to go down two different paths later in the game (job upgrade which will come with a change in graphics, too); how these two paths will be distinct has yet to be discussed (I had an idea where you can take a character like Sey, who is a White Mage, and have her either go down a Full Priestess path for more holy magic or go down a "shadow" path that will give her more offensive spells and less defensive spells like heal and buffs) Intended game engines that will be used are: Game Maker, RPG Maker XP

Owner of Character: Uberwulf X
Name: Lazenca Miranda
Class: feral fighter that may do better in a Berserker class than Monk, though he fights with precision and calculation befitting his Ice attacks and nature.
Brief info: Doesn't talk much, is pretty mute in a fight. A lone wolf by choice, he always seems to end up helping pretty ladies despite his stating that he needs to stay away from them. Despite being quiet and detached, is incredibly reliable and a fine enough person when one gets to understand his motivations.

Owner of Character: Uberwulf X

Class: Battle Cleric. Employs staff use in her leg-heavy fighting, with a healthy dash of special techniques, fire manipulation, and old-school healing and cleansing.
Char Info: Her species (Hellcat) features give her a very feral appearance but she's normally one of the nicest people around. A businesswoman and president of a major corporation, she's gotten more and more interested in the fighting circuits and has been trying to compete on a professional level.

Vintrict Yes, characters are good! biggrin But I know there are some game players out there, too. I want to know what you will like to see in this game in terms of gameplay and misc. stuff. First off if this is going to be a RPG it needs a good storyline. The first thing we need to realize is that the main character should not be anyone character from the Levi pool. it should be a Male/Female lead that is OC, because lets face it its better to have the levi people as party members instead of main characters. from there we need to think of how chars are going to be implimented in the game. Take the HoH staff for example, they would not be party members but inportant storyline npcs. not everyone chan be a party member as well. This also means that every character sumbitted should be looked at in terms of story/game play/ and popularity. some characters obviously make more since as party members than others, some chars have more storyline pased powers to begin with and should be religated accordingly. that being said X will bring some bad a** music to the production and I look forward to hearing his battle and boss themes as well as any others he produces for this game. Gameplay should follow FFT and its successor FFTA in terms of gameplay, FFTA's law system could be implimented as "tournament rules" speaking of tournament rules, you should include GM threads as locations in the world and the yearly events like HoH and GTB in for storyline purposes, if posible. thats all my suggestions besides possibly adding me as a storyline consultant... I would like to help this project out and I have extensive background in reading fanatsy and Sci-fi as I said earlier so I know what it takes to spin a good yarn...

Owner of Character: The Darth Vizzle
Name: Deitric Jocasta
Job/ Class/ Expertise: Secret Arena Boss/NPC - Oriented towards melee DPS and Lightning attacks. Low health can prompt "overcharge" and stronger abilities for a period of time.
Brief Info about character: Deitric is a warrior of few words. Little of his past is known, and despite being the reigning Gaian Tenkaichi Budokai Champion, the fighter is an elusive figure that seemingly appears and disappears on a whim.
-Not recruitable - Deitric isn't the sort of character that would easily join up with a random adventuring party. At best, it would take some serious in-game work to get him into the party. I'd prefer it if he were simply unrecruitable.
-Secret boss - If the game has some sort of arena (Leviathan) where they can fight monsters/NPCs for experience and gold, Deitric would be a secret boss they could fight after completing certain challenges as a sort of "bonus boss."
-NPC - Deitric might be a randomly occurring NPC at certain locations, or might appear at certain points in different parts of the main quest, (if there is one) doing his own work parallel to the player character. He might aid them at times, or point them in the right direction, before disappearing, occasionally appearing during/after boss fights to help or congratulate the player or something.
-Trainer - Deitric could train a "Lightning" expertise to certain characters if they complete certain questlines for him (likely involving the arena(s)).
-Theme - HEAVY METAAAAAAAAL
I'll have something to contribute to the actual game and stuff later.

I guess I wouldn't mind assisting with artwork, sprite or otherwise. This idea has been being tossed back and forth in front of me for a while, and I think a Final Fantasy Tactics-style game for G.M. would be within the realm of feasibility.
I kindof like Deathgra's suggestion about making a blank, male-or-female main character that the player can name themselves rather than making any one person a main character...kindof like Dragon Age. It'd really save a lot of problems. However, one thing that really needs to be taken into account is the actual story behind the RPG itself. That's pretty much the road block in this case.
As all of you know, this little chunk of Gaia we all RP in together is an amalgam of all of our plots and storylines. On one hand you can't fit every single one into the game, and on the other hand you can't just pick one and focus on it....well, alright, maybe you COULD, but then you'd just be cutting people out of it. Not only that, but all of those said storylines are currently in play and can't be made into a complete game because...well...we haven't written them yet. ._.
So the obvious answer is, just like Deathgra's idea for an original main character, the plot definitely has to be an original one as well. It's kindof like that Bleach tactics-style RPG they have for the DS. It doesn't follow the main story at all, and rightfully so.
I have to disagree about the whole "HoH staff can't be party members" thing, though. That depends on entirely too many factors. This is supposed to be a Levi/Gaia RPG, not a HoH RPG. If HoH were to be made into any form of game, it'd be a fighting game. That'd be a lot easier insofar as story mode, but a lot harder to make along the lines of sprite editing and coding. That, and we'd have to look up random voice clips, because there's no way in hell I'd voiceover my own character. >_>
Then again, its not like a game needs that sort of thing. But I digress.
Saying HoH staff cant be party members just doesn't make sense. That'd be like saying Maxi or Jello can't be party members when they have characters that are perfectly capable of playing the role. I think that the kind of characters that can be used as party members will depend entirely on the story being made, as well as the number of people who come forward wanting to be party members.
Besides, since you can only have so many people in your party at any given time, you could easily have a larger number of them so that the player can pick who gets leveled up and who sits in the bench with Sten.
Yes, that was another Dragon Age reference.
So I guess it really boils down to who ends up as the storyline staff and what kind of plot they intend for the game. As for putting events like HoH or the GTB into it, that sounds like a bit of a stretch. Those events have big stories in and of themselves to begin with. I guess if there was a tournament quest in the game and you had a generic tournament that's really just a set of boss fights one after another, that'd be one thing to do. But I kindof doubt that any of us have the time, patience or resources to make an RPG as in-depth as a full-fledged final fantasy game. Gotta walk before you run and all.
I guess if I wanted to make my own suggestion, we could make some sort of a class-based system for the main character so that the main character can choose from a set number of classes based off of the characters he or she will meet as teammates.
Also, profile idea pending.

Owner of Character: Tenkai Matsumoto
Name: Err...Tenkai Matsumoto. ._.
Job/ Class/ Expertise: NPC/Party Member - Samurai/Monk class; Slayer
Brief (HAHAHAHA) Info about character: Even if we could choose one of our own characters to be the "main character" of the RPG, I definitely wouldn't want Tenkai to be the main character. He's more of a guide-type party member who would help a main character advance along in the plot, kindof like (I can just hear someone saying "I knew he was going to say--") Auron. I guess he'd be like Alistair, except he'd get on the main character's nerves in different ways, and less often.
I use the term "samurai" for class only because it's a common FF equivalent. By technical standards he isn't a samurai, and a lot more along the lines of being a monk except for the fact that he uses a sword most of the time. I may have Tenkai use other weapons and even his fists in roleplay, but for the sake of simplicity he'd just use katana.
Then again, since the sword he uses is kindof integral to his character, in place of equipping new swords to use to power up his attack and other things, you could equip him with different kinds of rosary beads. He'd still attack with a katana, but it'd always be his Muramasa.
I guess if we could make our own classes specifically, Tenkai would be an Exorcist or a Slayer. A few other characters fall under that category on Gaia, so it'd probably fit together. Then we could save all of the character-specific powers and abilities for things like Limit Breaks. I actually have a few ideas for how that could fit into a class system if you're interested.
As an NPC - Tenkai could act as sort of a stepping-stone boss fight, trying to gauge the skill of the main character so that once he's beaten, he'd advance the plot by giving the player information and acting as a guide.
That, and he could provide medicine via his TRIAGE booth along with his panda. :3 I guess, also, at some point in the game you could unlock something where he can teach certain sword-based techniques.
Theme - Something Japanese and Buddhist sounding. Other than that, I would say "Vampire Killer" but I'd be stealing that from Simon Belmont.

>> I'll happily kick the next person who thinks a 'staff' member should not submit a character.... if this is a Gaia RPG then everyone who has a character has a right to submit that character if they want to... even Vini's multiple characters have a right to be included, since they all have their own personalities xd
Now, on to the game play, a new storyline is obviously a must... otherwise anyone who was not aware of past story arc's would get a little confused, quite fast! A blank main player sounds like a good idea, and I like the thought of being able to pick up and switch out other characters as you go... kind of like Poke'mon where you only have the 5 poke'bals, but you have a chance to collect all your favorites along the way and play with them a bit if you wish... even if you have to put them away for someone better suited for the next boss fight! So, make the others Mercenaries.. you go to a town and you hire a merc of your choice to join your party... everyone has different skills so party building could become an entertaining option for those who don't really care about the story line 3nodding
sweatdrop I have never played FF Tactics, so I'm not sure if that is how it works or not, but that is my 2 cents!

Man, I really feel like taking a hand at making a mini-RPG for Tenkai, but all i have is RPG Maker 2003. RPG Maker XP is a trial-only thing and I'm not shelling out 30 bones for it.
I'd probably have an easier time making a game in Starcraft 2 than I would in one of these programs. And believe you me, it's possible. I just...you know...don't have the models for it. >>
