Q: I want to do something that my character isn't allowed to do IC. Can I?
A: Usually, yes! But first, PM the mule and get permission. Note there will be IC consequences that may be out of your control as a player.
Q: I want to do something that my character isn't allowed to. It's IC of them, but when they do it, I don't want any IC consequences. Okay?
A: Uh, no. IC actions = IC consequences. It's better to either accept them or create characters that can stay in character without breaking the rules. We're willing to work with you, but if you make a total trouble maker, expect them to suffer some backlash.
We will never be upset with you OOC for your characters breaking the rules IC as long as you except the consequences and tell us first. We welcome a little conflict!
Q: Is there any concept of time in character?
A: Yes. When a clutch is born and grows into adult, it is considered to be one turn (year) within the shop in character. Keep that in mind when making candidates, as all candidates will need to be aged one turn IC to keep things sensible. (You wouldn't want to RP with a character that was your character's age when you started five years younger than them now would you?)
Q: What kind of food do the Pernese eat?
A: Because we've got two Northern Weyrs and a Northern Hold, you'd see lots of stews and soups. Meat-wise, it would be probably considered a rarity (especially outside of High Reaches) because they've only got wherries there for the dragons. So if they have meat, it probably tastes a lot like chicken. Meat and veggie rolls are pretty common as well, freshly baked bread, fruits from the south in trade, basically think like medieval style kinds of foods. Anything you can find on this list is fair game.
Q: What kind of wildlife is there on Pern other than dragons?
A: It depends on the location, but in general the list includes: wild felines, working dogs (even small breeds are working dogs), tunnelsnakes, birds, fish, wherries, insects and perhaps a few others.
Q: What is the weather like on Pern?
A: High Reaches and Telgar are up in the mountains, so the weather would be fairly cold all year round, even during the summer. The inside of the Weyrs would be warmer. It does snow in the winter months.
In Ghenza, because they are on flat ground, the seasons will vary much more. For simplicity sake, we will follow American seasons. Meaning in December, for example, it would be winter.
Q: How do people make money on Pern?
A: It depends on their job. Craftsmen are usually paid by comission. Traders will come across and sell their wares in various ways. As for riders, they are paid a salary based on their rank. There's a lot of answers to this one, so if you need a specific answer, please post in the questions thread in the guild!
Q: How are rank knots worn?
A: Generally, it's worn around the waist, but there's no real law against wearing it other ways (over the shoulder, etc.). Just so long as it's somewhere on your person. (See the Pern guide for more info on rank knots.)
Some places do not use rank notes. See each location's proper guide to learn more.
Q: Would there be a lot of abandoned Weyrs because of the plague?
A: Yes, there are. These Weyrs may later be revived by player characters, but only time will tell!
