Bakhti was laid out on Pride Rock, she had heard rumours of some of the youngsters wanting to be taught how to hunt so grudingly she had agreed to help out. She would teach them. Bakhti had good hunting skills and was clever and cunning. She wasn't stupid and had taught herself to hunt when she had been very young. Now it was her turn to hand on her skills, oh dear, this could be interesting.

Sarabi stepped lightly from the den, Kiuma trailing behind her. Her steps slow and careful, the queen aproached on of her lionesses, a soft smile on her face. "Bahkti?" She called. "May I ask you for a favor?"
Kiuma stuck close behind her mother, her bright red eyes hopeful.

Bakhti looked up and bowed her head to the queen, "Of course you may.." She looked at the red girl behind her and was curious to why her eyes seemed to be shining. If this involved her she better well behave, Bakhti could get stressy easily!

Sarabi sank onto her haunches, pausing to lick the dust from one paw. "My daughter, Kiuma, needs to be taken on her first hunt. Its her initiation into the role of a true huntress. Normally, as the Queen, I would take her with my lionessess, but sadly... I am unable. Would do me the favor, and the honor, of accompaning my daughter in my place?" She smiled softly, her fragile body still held proudly.
Kiuma, deciding that this was as good a time as any, slunk around her mother and bowed her head to Bahkti. "You would be doing me a very big favor, Bahkti. I've been practicing very hard at hunting, and I want to prove that I'm ready to be a huntress."
"I will be watching from Priderock." Sarabi said, motioning to the tip with her head.

Bakhti smiled softly, "Yes, I will take her, if she behaves. I have a problem when youngsters who say they want to learn dont listen or do what they are told but if you are watching I am sure she will behave." She looked at the red lioness and then stood up. The Queen was fragile and seemed ill, she wasn't sure if that was the case but either way. She stretched her body ready to go hunting.

"Let Kiuma do the work, Bahkti. This is a test after all. But watch her, in case there is any trouble, and help her find prey that is within her capabilities. I'll be watching. Good hunting to you both." Sarabi rose, smiling as she nuzzled her daughter with a throaty purr.
Kiuma nuzzled her back, a little worry creeping into her eyes. She was both looking forward to this, and dreading it.
Sarabi nodded to Bahkti and padded up the length of Priderock to settle in her vantage point, her bright eyes searching for the signs of prey below.
Meanwhile, Kiuma turned back to look at the blue-eyed lioness, her own red eyes calculating and wary. "I'm ready to go, Bahkti. I... I'm ready for this hunt." Her young body tensed as she stepped forward, tones muscles bunching and releasing with her movements. Flicking her black tuffed tail, she waited to the other lioness to turn as well so they might be on their way.

Bahkti's first born son wasn't far away from the three females, lounging about on the warm rocks near the den. He rolled up onto his stomach when he heard his mother's voice and raised his head to see.
Not close enough or doing anything to be a distraction, he simply watched and listened to them for now. Kiuma becoming a huntress? Well that was interesting. Indeed, it would be interesting to see if she learns how to actually kill her prey rather than just torturing it and letting it suffer. He was also curious to see how his mother hunted, since he'd learnt most of his own skills from his father.

Bakhti watched the queen head off and looked at the red lioness, "Just behave then everything will be fine." She turned to leave the huge rock when her sons scent hit her. A smile crawled across her face but if he wanted to join them he could, she wouldn't find him as she was hoping to get this over and done with rather quickly.
She leaped off the rock and landed softly on the flat ground. first thing first, drink! She walked towards the water hole and lowered her head so lap up some cold water. "Drink up girl, you will need it."

Kiuma nodded and padded forward to join the lioness, crouching at the edge of the water as she bent her head to it. Still, she drank sparingly. It wouldn't be very good if her full bladder started to bother her just as she had gotten close enough to the prey to attack it.
The lanky adolescent rose from the water when she'd slaked her thirst, little dropplets running down her creamy chin and falling to break the surface in a ring of ripples. "Bahkti... where do you think we should go to find prey?"

She looked at the adolescent, softing a little towards her she smiled, "Your the huntress, you find the prey!" She smiled before looking out at the plains, she knew the best hunting spots but Kiuma needed to do the hunting, she would just be watching and help out if anything fatal happened.

As the pair made their way off Mchele got to his feet and wandered slowly after them. It was a slow day for him and this seemed much more entertaining. Indeed it was quite a big event for Kiuma he figured.
He followed them at a distance, pausing to watch them drink first. Good idea, you could get hot and bothered running about in the sun for too long. He'd get a few laps himself when they had moved on.

Kiuma stepped back till the scent of water wasn't so strong, then lifted her nose to the wind. She grumbled as she sniffed, perking her ears to add that sense as well. Drat... all the scents were jumbled together... Nothing stuck out as being any closer than any other. Her ears swiveled and flicked, her diligence rewarded with the faint sound of hooves. She couldn't tell for sure what type of hooved animal it was, but anything was prey right now. The crimson female smiled as she dropped her head and set out in the direction of the sound.
Ever conscious of her bright red pelt, Kiuma kept herself low to let the grass cover her, relying more on her nose and her ears to find her prey than her eyes. Step by step she moved closer, the pads of her soft paws nearly silent as she trotted through the grass.

Bakhti could tell she was having problems distinguishing the scents, she had once had that problem too but it was obvious now that the Kiuma was going after a herd of wilderbeast. She surrpressed the laugh that wanted to come out of her and just watched, she had a feeling this little girl might get hurt.
She found a near by rock which she jumped onto, settling down onto it she could see the herd in the distance. They were feeding and the wind was in their favour today so the lions would have no problems, but Bakhti was leaving this to Kiuma, she was going to have some fun instead.

Kiuma crept silently through the grass. Her sensitive nose finally picked up a scent ahead of her that was stronger than the rest. Hmm... Wilderbeasts... Not a bad choice, but she'll have to make her selection carefully. Crouching in the grass downwind of the herd, she scanned the many animals with critical eyes. Most were out of her league, too young and fit for a young lioness out on her own.
After a few minutes of fruitless searching, excitment stabed through her as her eyes lit on one beast by itself on the outside of the herd. It was a young mother, too new to be as cautious with her young as she should have been. The little foal bounced and played a short distance from the herd, shying at shadows and bleating. Kiuma decided that the colt would be what she would go for, and the situation was perfect.
She slunk back through the grass to circle the heard on silent paws, her tail lashing. She had to be careful... She'd only get one chance with this herd. It would flee the moment she appeared.
