Our band is doing 2 parades this year. I've never done one before.
For people who have done it, is it hard and nerve-racking like out band teacher says it is? This is a lame post but I was bored and wanted to know.

I've done 1 parade so far and it was for vetrans day..but I feel like its the same concept since we have to do the same thing for our christmas parade.

Its not very hard in my opinion as long as you keep looking in your periphls as always. And your turn correctly. It is slightly nerve racking. But its fairly easy.
At least it was for mne...when we were marching I was in the middle row and got ot march on the yellow line.

It is hectic at the beginning, yes, but once it gets going, it's actually really tiresome. I'm having to do a Christmas parade pretty soon. It'll be my last one considering it's my last year of high school. It's gonna be fun! xp

When I did Christmas parades they were not hectic at all...on the contrary, there was a lot of boring waiting around in the cold for the parade to start.

Once they get going they are super fun though. People get more into it than normal parades, I think. We also put strings of lights on our instruments which looks pretty cool.

Yeah, I'm on front row("Yay" me) and I'm the second to the outside, so it isn't going to be as easy as that. I just hope I don't mess us up. We got 2nd place last year, and our band teacher said he wasn't going to settle for anything less. I'm worried that I'm totally going to bomb it. emo

Hehe last year it was raining pretty hard when the christmas parade began and so our band director had us go through the parade in a bus. We played out the windows. It was pretty fun but it was sad to see the other bands from our sister schools getting soaked. A lot of my friends go to the other schools and they said we were wimps for not marching in the rain. But our band director wasn't about to let our uniforms and instruments get wet and trashed. Otherwise I would've loved to march in the rain alongside them. It was still an interesting experience to be in a bus, though.

Honestly, the answer to your question depends on the parade itself and the conditions it'll be marched in. For us, we do a neighborhood Christmas parade that isn't really known outside of the Granada Hill/Northridge area. It's not exactly the most formal thing so we can be a lot more relaxed than if it was, say, the Festival of Roses Parade or something else that's really major and has people camping out just to see it. Likewise, if it's sunny and perfect outside, there's not much to worry about. Marching will be easy and the worst that can happen is your legs cramping up if the parade length is really long. If it's raining.... Well, let's just say I feel really bad for you and hope that the parade isn't too long sweatdrop .

Another word of advice: if you have never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever been a Christmas parade, it is always cold in the beginning. But once you get towards the end of marching, YOU WILL WANT TO GET OUT OF THAT UNIFORM PRONTO!!!!!!

So true....unless you havethin uniforms then you want to get on the bus!
I think it varies depending on how thick your uniforms are and how much you have to march.....

I don't think it's hard at all. Tiring, but not hard.
I hate parades, though. After 5 years they have lost their fun.
They start so much drama in my band.
Mainly because my director is an a**.. so drama probably won't happen to you.

I've only done one parade, and that was my freshman year. Every other year, we do a parade in my town called the Rodeo parade. Yes, we live in a very rodeo-oriented kind of area(aka the kind of place you would see in a wildwest movie, just more modern)
Its a pain in the butt. It happens towards spring, so its hot. The parade is...I wanna say 2.5 miles, or 4 miles. I can't remember. Its really long. Not to emntion, no machines. everythign is either on foot or by horse. Which means: Lots, and I mean lots, of horse poo to ruin our lovely band shoes. So hot+horse+long=Nobody likes to amrch it. i like to laugh at little naive freshman, much like how i was, that say "i can't wait." Exactly what I said. I just laug and tell them it sucks. they dot believe me.

But again, never done a christmas parade. But as for parades in general, its enrveracking at first, and also quite exciting, but once you get going, you ind of warm up to it, and then want to move faster to gtho.

We have those nice, thick wool uniforms that we have to wear ALL YEAR LONG. So beginning of the season we are roasting like pigs. Winter, however, we are freezing to death....unless it's the parade and we're marching.

We're doing the "Santa Claus" parade, like we do every year. It's sad that this year we aren't doing too many parades, cuz those are some of my favorite things to do, even though we epic suck at them. Yet, I don't understand why we call our christmas parade the santa claus parade, cuz santa's not in it... :p

our parade is like 3mins long.. and last year was cold as hell. We wear santa hats and black pants with our raincoats. Then march down the main city street... its not hectic. Its just freaking cold.. I'm hoping this year it wont be as cold..
