Some positions normally occupied by NPCs are now available to players. (Note: You are not guaranteed the role just by posting here, and we reserve the right to ask you to edit things accordingly if need be.)

For now, to keep things organized, we are only opening these positions for High Reaches. Ghenza and perhaps Telgar will be later. (And maybe somewhere else?)

Do they have to be current characters, or can we make new ones?

Either works! Just fill out your form accordingly. If you are chosen with a new character, we will color you up their dragon. You will not get to choose how it looks, but you may decide the color.

How many different characters can I enter?

As many as you can play. If you don't have time for more than one, don't enter for more than one.

How active am I expected to be?

Pretty active! That's kind of the point. How active depends on what role you're taking on, though. We don't expect you to never need a break, but if you don't plan to RP, please don't apply.

Openings::

Weyrlingmasters. We'll be accepting anywhere from 3-5, possibly more. We'll have to see. Any rider is able. Please be sure to read the new Weyrling Lesson plan before applying! (You can find it in the announcement in the thread.) We need at least one of the following: a stern person, a playful person, a person that has lost their dragon.

Four Weyrlingmasters seems like more than enough for now. We may open more 'slots' later.

We still need Wingleaders! No idea how many of these we'll accept. You may apply with any color, but only browns or bronzes are likely to be accepted.

How to apply!

Fill out one of these two forms and post it here. The first is for characters already in existence. The second is for new characters.

Rider Name: O'ri
Rider Gender: Female
Rider Age: 27
Rider Sexuality: Bisexual
Rider History:
O'ri - short for Omria - was born a weyrbrat. Both of her parents are Lower Caverns workers, and she's acquainted with them both, though she doesn't have a close relationship with them. She does like them, and is rather attached to them, but not unordinarily so...not for her, anyway. You see, O'ri becomes attached to people very quickly and easily; if you're nice to her, you're her friend, simple as that! The greenrider is rarely anything but cheerful, no matter the time of day or, to some extent, the situation. She has a smile - and yes, a hug! - for almost everyone.

She Impressed at the age of 14, after receiving quite the mauling from an angry hatchling, which Palisanth chased off. Their progression since has been pretty standard: Weyrling to Wingrider with no significant bumps along the way. She doesn't handle unpleasantness well, though, even in her adulthood. Unkind words, or even especially harsh criticism, can still cause her to tear up a little - but she doesn't run away and cry the way she used to! Palisanth has helped her to mature, at least a little. Her dragon Rises often, though, which delights O'ri - they get to be the center of attention, and get some lovin', too!

Their history so far is pretty much free of any great trauma, except for recent events, with the Weyrleader being poisoned and so forth. As someone easily affected by loss, even when it's not someone particularly close to her, it's been a little difficult for O'ri to handle. And now Kindlely's gone, too, and...well, it's all very sad!
Dragon Name: Palisanth
Dragon Color: Green

Applying for: Weyrlingmaster

Why would they be a good fit? O'ri is playful, cheerful, and upbeat, and Palisanth is very motherly. Together, they'll make an affectionate, easy-to-relate-to team, happily imparting what they know and offering gentle critique and advice. They'll also do their very best to make sure everyone gets along, as disharmony is one thing they just can't stand. And no backtalk! Pali won't hesitate to have a word with anyone who is less than kind and respectful to Hers.
Anything else? I can flesh things out a little, if necessary. I wasn't sure how much personality info you did or didn't want for the dragon.

Link to Rider Profile: journal for B'shir and Sakneth
Applying for: Wingleader

Why would they be a good fit?
B'shir was raised from the time he was born to be a dragonrider by his grandfather, who instilled in him an ironclad sense of duty and honor and responsibility. Although he spent much of Sakneth's senior weyrling stage at Ghenza he did not neglect his training, and worked every day with his dragon even when the Ghenzans were reluctant to be particularly helpful. Although he is not a risk-taker or particularly creative thinker, B'shir is a polite, responsible young man who has no problems doing what needs to be done, even when it's unpleasant, and has a great deal of experience in dealing with difficult opposing personalities, which he has gained from working with his dragon, Bronze Sakneth.

As for Sakneth's suitability for the role, the bronze would be the first to say that he was born to be empowered, and that it was his right as a metallic dragon to lead so that other lesser colors could follow. His inherent supremecy aside, Sakneth has a very strong personality which could be put to more constructive use in a position of authority. Indeed, it is likely he would chafe under the authority of any chromatic dragon, whereas he would feel that he had no choice but to put his silver tongue to good use if he were placed in a position where others followed him, for he would want to be the best and have those under his command demonstrate his superiority through their superior performance. In other words, he can bully and cajole as needed.

Sakneth's creativity covers for B'shir's lack of it and B'shir's discipline covers for Sakneth's disrespect for chromatics and females. Being in their wing would mean a lot of work, with long practices and exacting standards, but they would probably turn out textbook-perfect formations and drills.

Accepted, but Luci will be keeping a watchful eye on this one to make sure he's staying in line. wink

We'll probably have a contest for PC dragons for this wing as well.

Rider Name: C'mor
Rider Gender: Male
Rider Age: 21
Rider Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rider History: Ever since he can remember, C'mor’s life has been centered around his ambition of becoming a dragonrider, and a good dragonrider at that. He believes his father was a rider, but like many weyrbrats couldn't tell you for sure, and to him it doesn't really matter one way or the other in any case. He was generally a little quieter and more thoughtful than most of the lads around him, but he never stood out as a shining star of brilliance per se. In order to chase his dream of becoming a great rider some day, however, his free time over the turns was dedicated as much to learning all the dragon lore he can as to anything else a young lad might usually do. He first asked permission to stand for a hatching at fourteen turns - he did not consider himself mature enough before this - but thanks to a series of badly timed illnesses and injuries he did not even make it to a Touching until mid way through his sixteenth turn. He failed to Impress at his first hatching, but the second time he stood on the sands, bronze Naedreth chose him as his lifemate and rider.

Dragon Name: Naedreth
Dragon Color: Bronze
Applying for: Wingleader

Why would they be a good fit? They are a generally good natured, and yet ambitious pair; they both like and respect others, but have the drive and the desire to lead them as well. Naedreth has plenty of charisma which will of course be helpful, while C'mor supplies the steady thoughtfulness needed for making careful plans. Both rider and dragon are very difficult to rattle, meaning they'll deal well both with unruly wingmembers, and with things going wrong in the air in there own different ways; Naedreth with his charm and snap decisions, and C'mor with his well thought out arguments and logic.

For C'mor honor and honesty are two of the most important things in life, and as such he will do all he can to instill these values in members of his wing who might not possess them. He will not, however, do this by berating and shouting; he's a lead by example sort of a man, and does not expect anything from those around him that he does not also expect of himself. This applies not only to always speaking the truth and so on, it also applies to putting in extra hours of practice where needed; if his wing is in the air and training you can guarantee he'll be up there alongside them.

As honesty is so important to him, C'mor will always let his wing members know when they're not up to standard, and he will do so bluntly. In this case, Naedreth's charm can be usefully applied to soothing bruised egos; while he won't lie about anything, the big bronze will certainly find something nice to say to them. C'mor isn't all harshness, however, he is also totally honest when he thinks people have done a good job, and will make sure that credit is always given where's it's due to those under his command.

Anything else?

Rider Name: T'gan
Rider Gender: Male.
Rider Age: 46.
Rider Sexuality: Heterosexual, but with the sex drive of a dead wherry.
Rider History: T'gan was born the child of two farmers, both rather drab, and had a generally uneventful childhood. Not that it ever mattered to him--as a child, T'gan (then Teagan) was always following the rules, and, as a result, didn't get to experience what could happen otherwise. He's a stickler for having everything be in perfect order, and has always been the party killer/rule police. T'gan seems to have the words 'no fun' branded on his forehead, not literally of course, and kills it wherever he goes. Two newly-Impressed Weyrlings running around playing? "Stop that, you'll get yourself hurt and I'm not going to help you when you've got bones sticking out where they shouldn't." He uses a combination of worst-case scenarios and utter seriousness to drive his points home, and has a definite sense of duty that pretty much says he can't give up on a Weyrling, no matter how frustrated he gets or how much he would absolutely love to. After all, if he gives up on this Weyrling, he would be giving up on the Weyr, and there is no way he's going to do that.

When he Impressed to his Bronze at 18 Turns, nothing really changed--Agamemneth didn't do much for lightening up stern T'gan. Early on, he got into a lot of fights with his short temper, and has gotten his fair share of scars--which only serve to make him a good bit more intimidating. Over time, and with Agamemneth's insistence, his temper cooled, and he's now actually pretty patient. When his dragon was permanently injured in a Flight that got a bit out of hand, T'gan turned over his Wingrider status and decided to try his hand at teaching Weyrlings.

Plenty of people probably wish that he didn't.

Dragon Name: Agamemneth.
Dragon Color: Bronze.

Applying for: Weyrlingmaster.

Why would they be a good fit? T'gan is serious, strict, and no-nonsense. He'd probably be the intimidating Weyrlingmaster that nobody really wants to get, but turns out pretty good riders despite his (pretty much) zero-tolerance policy. Agamemneth is not as serious, but knows how to teach them right, and would level out his rider's personality and serve as the 'good cop' of the pair.

Anything else? Agamemneth has a slight limp from the Flight, but is otherwise perfectly sturdy.
And uh, I could add more or change things if needed! Just prod me and I'll do that.

I really like the idea of an older Weyrlingmaster and we need one on the strict side, but there's some stuff we'd need to discuss in further detail. Mostly just that he was known to get in a lot of fights. Fighting in High Reaches can get a candidate suspended if it's bad enough.

It's still possible he had a brawl or two, but we need to discuss it. =]

Also, the Weyrwoman would be very hesitant to employ a Weyrlingmaster who is so temperamental to handle a bunch of Weyrlings that are sometimes on the... frustrating side. XD (See: Weyrling Jounouth, Weyrling Sakneth, etc.)

We can discuss that, too, though. Fling me a PM sometime?

Rider Name: Eralie (formerly E'lie )
Rider Gender: Female
Rider Age: 35
Rider Sexuality: Homosexual, though she keeps her preferences to herself
Rider History: Born to the Weyr and raised in the Weyr, the young woman known as Eralie took the halls and tunnels of High Reaches like a fish would take to water. Rambunctious, playful, even a bit snarky at times, she was a wher with two legs that left a trail of trouble in her wake at every turn. Chastised constantly by whomever could get their hands on her, she straightened up a bit in her early teen turns though that spirited streak never quite left her personality. Eventually she was cornered and given two options, either learn a craft useful in the Weyr or be shipped off somewhere to learn it there, Eralie buckled down and threw her lot in with the Weyr Healers. She wasn't very good, barely handling the day to day basics, but eventually she found a knack for treating children rather than adults, as children were far more honest in their aches and pains then a grown dragonrider.

Turns passed and Eralie grew a bit more relaxed in her "makeshift craft", though her life was turned upside down the day she stood on the sands and Impressed to a mewling and hissing spitfire green that called herself Resupeth. Together they carved a line of both amusement and terror amongst their fellow Weyrlings, Eralie (calling herself E'lie) always off on some adventure in her mind and Resupeth following behind and leaving devastation in her wake. The two weren't meant for glory, much less much of a wing, though somehow they made it together and joined the ranks of their comrades and clutchmates. Life was good.

Until the accident.

It had seemed like a normal Wing drill, one that the pair had done plenty of times, though there was a slight change as there was a strong wind that changed the direction of flame and made jumps from between a bit harder to predict in terms of location. Resupeth and E'lie were doing fine, if not being a bit more cautious, though a poorly placed flame from one of her Wingmates lead the dragon to jump between in an effort to get away. The jump out faired no better for the rider and dragon, as they got in the way of another blast of flame. Managing to dodge just in time they instead spun into the path of a fellow Wingmate, leaving the dragons to collide and for Resupeth's wings to get horribly torn by dragon claws in the process.

Resupeth couldn't dodge in time during the training, and E'lie couldn't calm her down from the pain that seared every ounce of her dragon's being. Neither could stop their fast decent, even with the help of the rest of their Wing, and no one could stop the green from shrieking between with pain after they made heavy contact with the ground. E'lie had been thrown off with the impact, her arm and leg broken; Resupeth had damaged her wings far beyond repair and control. When Resupeth didn't come back and E'lie's happy personality vanished without a trace, the young woman would never be the same. She had been only 23 turns at the time, having had her lifemate for more than six.

At first extreme sadness weighed on E'lie, who went on to call herself Eralie once more, however a gradual change came over her as time passed and more dragonets came to the sands. Eralie had always been good with children and remained that way, even without her beloved Resupeth at her side, and so she sought out a way to help the Weyrlings advance and perhaps avoid the same fate that she had.

Dragon Name: Resupeth
Dragon Color: Green

Applying for: Weyrlingmaster

Why would they be a good fit? E'lie, now known again as Eralie, knows the pain of loss more than anyone and therefore values the life of dragonets and their rides much greater than anyone could have hoped. Having been left behind by what she considers her "greater half" in all aspects of the word, knows that it will take a strong rider to ensure that a dragon can grow to the best of its abilities alongside its lifemate.

That being said she has little time or patience for people who would not take themselves, their dragons, or their lessons seriously. While not overly harsh she's occasionally quick on the rod, following the old saying of 'spare the rod, spoil the child', though deep down she really does seem to care for all the students as though each dragonet and rider were mirrors of herself. She is very fond of children however, young adults included, so most of the time she gives in to their whims and enjoys seeing the youth of the Weyr happy rather than upset with her.

Anything else? I would like to apply for the "lost their dragon" position, obviously

Rider Name: Harna
Rider Gender: Male
Rider Age: 45
Rider Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rider History: Daknell was a weyrbrat, son of two riders and raised as most Weyrbrats were. He always knew he'd stand- it was his right as a child of the Weyr. And so his primary task, self-appointed, was to learn what he could about dragons so that when he became a rider, he wouldn have the best dragon in the Weyr, the best cared for and the healthiest. He worked, and studied; At thirteen turns old, D'nel and Bronze Harnath became a team. And all his hard work paid off. D'nel was devoted to Harnath, and the emotion was returned. he would oil and bathe the dragon carefully, and encouraged him in thought and action. For over twenty turns he and his Dragon were a team, inseparable. They were mated to a Green and her rider for ten turns of those years before a peaceful dissolution.

Then in an accident, something that should have been a routine exercise, Harnath and D'nel were injured. It was just a regular flaming exercise, and he allowed himself to not pay attention; he allowed himself to slip... After all, the weather wasn't the best, and he didn't want to be practicing. He would rather be inside, relaxing, maybe working on that little present he was whittling for that pretty greenrider... The bag of firestone caught alight, damaging his right side, and almost ruining one of Harnath's wings. The bronze managed to land, screaming out his pain. D'nel fell off, landing in the dirt. Healers surrounded them, and D'nel could remember Harnath screaming, and his mind beating at his own furiously... And then he could remember nothing.

D'nel held on to life with the aid of some very cruel but effective Healers; Harnath, in the end, went between in pain. When he was well, D'nel had one thing to live for- to make sure that no one else lost their dragons like he did, because of a careless moment. He took on the name Harna, casting aside the Daknell who had lost his partner- he was dead. He didn't choose to leave the weyr, unable to reconcile the thought of leaving the place he and his life-partner had flown, and loved their partners; the place he had grown up, and the place he had devoted his life to.
Dragon Name: Harnath (deceased)
Dragon Color: Bronze

Applying for: Weyrlingmaster

Why would they be a good fit? Daknell has turns of experience, and a drive to make sure that his pupils learn their lessons, and learn them well. His life is his punishment for his actions. He's been dragonless for ten turns, but that doesn't mean he's forgotten anything he knows! his bark is worse than his bite, but that doesn't mean he won't punish (severely) any Weyrling who steps out of line, or makes a decision that could harm his or her partner.

Anything else? Harna has a terribly scarred face, and his primary hand is not as quick to move as it once was. He is nothing beautiful to look at, not anymore.

@ Inf / Rown - I need you both to elaborate on what the accident was that killed their dragons in greater detail. Otherwise, everything looks good.

Thanks!

+ Weyrlingmaster apps for HR are closed (for now)

Wingleader apps are still open, and we'd really like to get some non-bronze wingleaders.

Rider Name: Ralla
Rider Gender: Female
Rider Age: 24
Rider Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rider History:
Ralla is holdborn, the youngest of three daughters, and was a malcontent from childhood on. She wanted nothing to do with dresses and ribbons, and later, nothing to do with marriage and children. So when she was searched at 15, she jumped at the chance to leave her cothold behind and be a dragonrider. She Impressed her first time around, to a blue named Voivoth, and they've been testing their limits ever since. They were difficult Weyrlings, the kind who had a tendency to go just a little further than they should, to practice outside of lessons, and try things before they really should have, just to see if they could. Through a combination of luck and grit, they managed to get through it unscathed.

Ralla grew up as just another girl, and Voivoth hatched as just another blue, but just will never be good enough for either of them, and that includes just being wingriders. The surest way to get this pair to do something is to tell them it's not possible; they'll try it to prove it is, and that they can do and be whatever they want.

Dragon Name: Voivoth
Dragon Color: Blue

Applying for: Wingleader

Why would they be a good fit? There is not a sharding thing a man can do that Ralla cannot, and that includes being a wingleader, thank you. Her dragon may be a blue, but he's a big one, and every bit as tough as his rider - and as determined to prove that he can play with the big boys as she is. Just a girl? Just a blue? No such thing!

They'll work as hard as they have to to prove it, and work their wing just as hard, because their wing reflects on them. It's not good enough just to do well; Ralla and Voivoth won't slow down until theirs is better than bronze- and brown-led wings, because only then will they have proven themselves and their point. Even when they get there - even if they never get there - they will keep pushing.

Anything else? This is far too much fun. orz
