One second, Malodore had been on the stage, bones creaking and muscles twinging, bandages oozing a bit more than usual - and, the next, everything exploded into darkness.

The plague doctor swam back up into awareness in the nurse's office, semi-comfortably ensconced in a cot. The nurse herself was nowhere to be found, but there were signs that basic medical care had been administered as needed. Malodore shook its head, slowly, and opened and closed its beak a few times. Merde, it tasted like something had died in there...

Malodore sat up, carefully, and took inventory. Limbs intact, a few metallic feathers bent but otherwise intact... its hat was still missing. Damn. But, overall... not too bad?

"Kasumi? Gargantuan?" Malodore said, wincing. Surely they'd ended up in the same place...?

Pffffffff...

That was the only thought going through Kasumi's head before she became completely corporeal and shifted slightly on her makeshift bed. The room was empty as far as she could tell, but a familiar clicking sound rose to her ears. Grumbling, she carefully turned over to observe the situation. Where on earth were they? She remembered guessing something and then... nothing. Blinking, she sat up somewhat and spotted the plague doctor for which their band had been named.

"Mr. Malodore, what happened?" asked the ghost, who was currently attempting to stay as semi-solid as possible. It looked like she'd been healed to the point where she could function, but she certainly had felt better. Poor G though, she felt terrible for him. He only wanted to have fun and ended up clocking someone in the skull with a drumstick that behaved like a missile.

Unfortunately, G was not cot-sized. Still, when he sluggishly began to shift, he found himself quite comfortably tucked into a corner with blankets. It instinctively reminded him of a nest, something that soothed his immediate uncertainty. If he listened carefully, he even thought he heard voices, and the swamp beast rumbled uneasily until he could place them. Malodore and 'Sumi... did this mean they were done playing band?

G hoped so.

"Don't wanna be in a band no more." He croaked, craning his head up and letting his chin rest with a creak on 'Sumi's cot. "Bet everyone mad 'cuz G was mean..." Would they ever be able to forgive him? G didn't know, but he would timidly go about making apologies as soon as he could! ...Well, when he didn't feel quite so woozy.

"I think..." Malodore paused to clear its throat; all that extremely metal shrieking had been hard on its vocal cords! "I think that we lost that challenge. But someone's obviously been taking care of us... has anyone seen my hat?"

"I think it was less the band part, and more the battle - merde!" Malodore swore. "I don't think people will be angry. Normal concerts don't break out into violence. ... I don't think." At least none of the string concertos it'd ever seen had done so.

((obtw you haven't seen the hat, the fact that it's missing is a plot point for later with someone else. XD))

Kasumi scratched her head. "Last I saw, you were wearing a cymbal. Did someone take your hat during the battle?" She hadn't really been able to focus during the whole ordeal, attempting to dodge swung guitars and flying drum kits was work enough for any one person. She rolled over the face Amjee and patted the gentle green giant on the head. He'd certainly done enough damage by himself during the battle that he should be congratulated, but it made Amjee so upset...

"You weren't mean, Amjee. You just don't know your own strength." the ghost explained softly. "Everyone else was mean too, but that was all part of playing band. I think we're done now, though." She was rather happy about that too, since it meant less growling and shrieking and general mayhem, which she was all for. Mayhem didn't exactly suit her style.

But poor Malodore has lost his hat! "Perhaps we could make 'Wanted' or 'Lost' posters for your hat, Mr. Malodore?"

(( Kasumi just refers to Malodore as a he so she can add honorifics easier. XD ))

There was a long, relieved sigh from the swamp beast when it all seemed to sink in; they didn't have to play band anymore! Hooray! Had the monster had eyes, he would have closed them contentedly at the patting, his rumble sounding a bit more fond. "Oh. Kay." If that had been the point... well, he still didn't like it much still, but that meant everyone was still friends, right?

...Right?

"Didn't eat hat." Came the reflexive response, and Gargantuan hunched his shoulders slightly. At least, he didn't think he'd eaten a hat... Not recently, anyway!

"Definitely done with bands," Malodore agreed wearily. "Done with bands, done with metal, absolutely done with cymbals..." It might try the guitar again sometime, though. Only done properly, with less screaming and smashing.

"I know you didn't eat it, Gargantuan," the plague doctor added, in a conciliatory tone. "It fell off during the battle. Maybe I should make a poster... ugh. Not just this minute, though." It flopped back on the pillow.

"At least we made a good show of it?"

The ghost laid back down slightly, resting her incorporeal weight on an elbow. "I for one and very glad we're done with band - I don't think it's my calling, you know?" Kasumi quickly checked to make sure all of her parts were attached. After they passed out, she didn't know what came of the other students playing band - only that she was incredibly relieved to be finished with it.

"Not my forte, but you two did an excellent job. I think you two were the best drummer and guitarist out there, honestly."

Gargantuan brightened a little when Malodore believed him right away--no one ever did that when it came to him eating things! But Malodore had always been nice, and that was why the swamp beast held the plague doctor dear to his stomach. Er. His heart.

"Sumi was a good singer." He insisted stubbornly, keeping his chin on her bedside so he could rest while still watching his friends. "'n Mal! G liked drums." They were fun to hit, even if he'd punched his fist through the tops of them on accident several time. And then threw them. Poor drums!

"Maybe... Maybe we do things again sometime." The monster said a little too hopefully, and the tip of his tail drummed a happy staccato on the floor. He liked Mal 'n Sumi! They were his friends!

"Certainly," Malodore said, immediately - somewhat to its surprise. Had it... actually enjoyed all of that?

... Huh.

It was good to see Gargantuan perking up, though. It just wasn't right to have a sad, uncertain swamp monster moping about. "Next time, perhaps we'll get a chance to actually play proper music. I mostly hit things," it said, ruefully. "Though, ah, Kasumi, you did a lovely job singing."

For a certain value of lovely.

Kasumi giggled at the hesitant compliments while patting Amjee on the head. The giant green student was just so cute, she couldn't help herself.

"It was more a bunch of choking and gasping and growling, but thank you for the compliment. I don't know why, but I can't help but make that awful choking sound..." She shook her head and looked at Amjee, who was happy as a clam.

"I think you're right, Mr. Malodore. We should play real music next time and not hit things. I think it would be a lot of fun, don't you, Amjee?"

Hooray! G's tail banged even more noisily against the floor--both for Malodore's agreement and the head-patting. He liked pats! "Mal can play drums next time. Have ta hit drums." The swamp monster concluded simply. If you were supposed to hit things to have them make noise, then that was okay, right? Of course, he'd probably break the guitar by accident without even trying, and that would be unfortunate.

...Poor guitar.

"Fuuuuuuuuuun." He rumbled his assent, letting his tail sweep lazily back and forth across the floor now. "G likes music. But no bands." He rectified hastily, apparently not about to forget such a traumatic incident anytime soon.

"I would enjoy learning a violin concerto," Malodore said, after a moment's thought. Its fingers really were not conducive to playing brass or woodwind, and the classics had always appealed to it.

Then again, G's drumming really wouldn't mesh with a violin concerto, would it? "Or anything that involves more strumming, less bashing." It was so uncouth, really, doing battle that way. So... clumsy and random.

Kasumi tilted her head in thought. "I bet you'd be quite good with a piano, Mr. Malodore, with those long fingers of yours." Suddenly, the thought of having a band of sorts (with less carnage and battling) didn't sound like such a bad idea. Perhaps they could stay together, but play different instruments? That is, if the other two were up for such a thing.

"Maybe it would be a better idea to play instruments we want to play, and not actively break things. Wouldn't you agree, Amjee?"

He was so cute when he was happy! Pat, pat, pat, pat...

"G could be stick-guy." Gargantuan brightened a little at the prospect of coming up with new instruments, and gave a thoughtful little wiggle. "Wavin' da stick." He meant the conductor, but he'd never really been taught the official term. Music wasn't big in the realm of swamp monsters--at least, not the sort of music that Malodore was thinking of!

"Would like!" He finally gushed, and peered up at his two friends with a broad and toothy grin. "Teach G?" If they set things up, then they could have their own club, and they could hit things and make pretty sounds!

All in all, a worthy investment, if he did say so himself!
