This is a private roleplay between Li [Chrystali] and Enlei [danse-hexe].

Setting:
Main Street.

Night has fallen; two of the newest recruits are patrolling, getting into a brawl, but not immediately with each other...?

She loved the night. Once upon a time, it had been the cover of darkness that heralded her parents telling her stories of old, pointing out the stars to make constellations to match their wild tales, of reflecting peacefully on the day that had transpired. It had been a time of relaxation and meditation, but now...

Now, Li walked the abandoned street down the middle of the empty marketplace, the stalls like ghostly husks of the life they usually housed. Her footfalls were quiet but still the loudest sound in the stillness of the slumbering square, her heartbeat audible in her ears, her breathing measured but still sounding like a gale in the silence. In short, she felt like a dragon in a temple of prayer, all awkward noise and shuffling beneath the watchful eyes of the stars. The light-haired femme was not used to the night becoming a stage of battle, doing her best to adapt, even though it meant breaking the memories she had and the teachings imparted upon her. The war was truly taking its toll on ever facet of life, lowering her spirits, her ear fins drooping some as well. Each place had a memory, and now, that fond recollection would have to contend with battle and bloodshed.

Drawing in a deep breath through her nose, the dark-clad Legionnaire sighed, adjusting her grip on her weapon, a wooden pole that looked something like an oar. Li knew she'd made a decision that she couldn't turn back from and, lifting her chin in defiance to her own dark thoughts, she continued to pad down the street, approaching the part of the square that was still awake. She could see the soft allure of lights pouring forth from taverns brave enough to keep their doors open, beckoning the fools dim enough to tread the moonlit streets.

Enlei was rarely out at night, primarily because she had no reason to be. The silence unnerved her, though she was glad for it. The Lunarian kept close to walls (they made her feel safe!), her hand on the hilt of her sword- deep down, she hoped she wouldn't have to use it.

Forty more minutes. She was ashamed of herself, for thinking this way. It was her first patrol as an academy student, and really, she ought to be honoured to have this privilege. With every step she took, she was going a little closer towards her dream of being a fighter- of protecting her family and standing up for what she believed in.

Yet she was still spooked by the smallest things- a cat jumping off the wall and staring at her with its amber eyes; a small breeze that blew leaves into her face. Trailing her hand along the wall, Enlei tried to turn her thoughts away from ghost stories and towards patrolling. Yes.. just a little while more. Gripping the hilt of her sword tighter, the young girl continued on her route.

As she turned the next corner, she caught a glimpse of someone behind her- and a glint of metal under the light of the moon. With a scream, Enlei pulled her sword out of its sheath and slashed blindly at her attacker.

Li would have been content to have been lost in her thoughts until the morning sun crested the horizon, but she had no such luck. A high, piercing scream reached her sensitive ears, her posture going rigid, ear fins held high at attention. It took mere seconds for her to pinpoint the direction of the victim, taking off at a dead run through the empty streets with the oar held vertically against her back. Would it be a battle, she wondered, the taste of adrenaline on her tongue. Her first battle of loyalty? A drunken brawl? A crime in progress? As she whipped around the corner like a dark ghost, she noted a cat with a collar yowling as it ran off, and just behind it -- a white sheet of a girl with her sword out, looking as though she'd just fought a war on her own.

The Legionnaire's sandals slid to abruptly halt her full throttle running, her momentum making her skid in a small plume of dust before it was just she and the blue-haired femme, alone in the night. Li blinked at the other Lunarian, finding her so much more...brighter than herself by comparison, if not a bit more skittish too. Offering a brief, polite smile, Li released her tight hold on her oar, leaning the head of it on the ground and leaning against the stem. "Are you hurt?" she queried, piecing together what must have happened with what limited information her eyes could pick out in the dark.

"You're safe, friend. You needn't brandish your blade so menacingly to SiMa Li." Pressing her hand against her chest, she offered a slight bow, hoping the greeting and noting of the weapon might put the other at ease.
