Personality: Bubby and outgoing. Bliss thrives where there are people, and isn’t afraid to run up to a complete stranger to tell them she likes their outfit/makeup. She’s always trying to persuade people into being guinea pigs for her makeup experiments, usually Halloween-themed.
Potential Powers/Skills: Bliss can excrete makeup from her pores. She can make herself over in mere seconds, or use her fingers as pre-loaded make-up brushes when working on others. There’s just one small catch. The makeup can only be removed by Bliss reabsorbing it into her skin. At least it won’t stain your clothes…
Prompt Response:Current Name Here
Prompt Two: You're a Halloween themed item. You like the Halloween things. But it's Christmas time now! Ohgod what happens?
Bliss groaned as her alarm went off. She reached blindly from under her covers to smack the offending object. Silence. Victory! She snuggled her blanket and sighed contentedly. Alas, it was not meant to be. Bliss’ little (though technically older) sister was the alarm clock that
couldn’t be shut off, and today her method of awakening was to stick her freezing, grimy hands in Bliss’ hair.
Bliss sat up with a yelp, glaring at her sister. Tarot just gazed solemnly back before running off to wash her hands. Sometimes it sucked to be a night owl when your sibling was a chicken. Seriously, ever been around one of those things? They get up freakishly early to begin their mischief.
Bliss knew when she had lost a fight. The curio pulled herself out of her warm bed and began the process of getting dressed. Several rejected ideas and edits later she emerged from her room wearing her zipper-and-buckle-covered black pants, her red plaid skirt, a black and white stripped, long-sleeve shirt under a plain orange tee, and her red shoes.
Now for makeup! Bliss stared into her mirror, deciding what she wanted to look like today. She tried several themes; werewolf, zombie, fairy princess, grunny. Finally she went with skeleton. Rather than paint the background black, Bliss left her skin color natural to make it look like her bones were showing through her skin. She grinned at herself from behind her skeleton mask, examined all the bones in her hands and fingers, and pronounced herself as,
“Perfect!”Bliss skipped out of her room and into the bathroom so she could brush her hair. After getting rid of any plant matter left from Tarot’s intrusive wake-up and parting her rainbow bangs carefully so that they framed her face, she declared that perfect as well and continued down the Skipping Path to the kitchen for breakfast.
“Hi Dad! Hi Tarot,” she enthused, seizing her favorite box of cereal and a bowl. Seriously, who didn’t love Franken Berry? All the goodness of strawberries mixed with those delicious marshmallows! She happily crunched on her treat, while Dad sighed and got up to get her the milk that she forgot. Again.
“So what’re we doin’ today,” Bliss asked, poking at her cereal as Dad poured in the milk and watching with delight as the it turned pink. When she looked up she saw that Dad was giving her a look. It was the same one the was usually reserved for Tarot when she refused to put on some of her prettier outfits.
“What?”“Nothing.” Bliss sighed in frustration. She hated that game. Everyone knew something was wrong, so why not just say what was wrong?! Dad just smiled at her sigh and started loading the dishwasher.
“We’re going to go shopping for Christmas decorations today,” he said, in response to her first question.
“Oh goody,” Bliss responded, bouncing in her seat. She loved shopping for holiday decorations! And this was her first Christmas ever, so that made it extra fun! After everyone finished breakfast they left to go shopping.
The first stirrings that something was wrong hit Bliss as they drove through town to the store. Everything was white with snow, and evergreens were everywhere. Shoved on doors, walls, windows, strung on poles and across street, even complete trees covered with food where there weren’t buildings. This couldn’t be right. Where were all the leaves? The cobwebs and spiders, the grime, the zombies? Bliss wasn’t sure what to make of it. The feeling of uncertainty only grew when they entered the store. Bliss actually stopped dead in her tracks.
Everything was so red and green! There was gold and silver and white too, but those two were the predominant colors. Trees were everywhere! Some were covered in lights, some in white stuff made to look like snow. Nearly all had shiny glass balls in multitudes of colors hanging from the branches. There were light-up figures of deer, moose, penguins, polar bears, and some weird creature made of three white balls stacked on top of each other. Inflatable versions of the animals also stood at the ready, cheerily grinning at the customers and moving about as their electronics commanded. Bright red flowers, both fake and real, were crammed into any available pots. The figure of a big fat man with a white beard wearing red and white was predominant among it all, and it seemed like his outfit was also for sale. Toys were everywhere and, to top it off, a good heap of glitter had been dusted over the whole affair.
Surely something was wrong. Where was all the scary stuff? The costumes, the props, the bats and vampires? Why were the lights multicolored instead of orange, green, or purple-black? There were no tombstones or fake body parts. The music was happy when it should have been filled with screams and creepy sound effects. And nobody looked the least bit afraid of anything popping out of the shelves to give them a fright. Wasn’t that what a holiday was about?
Next to her Bliss felt her sister whimper at the assault of color and sound to her senses and bury her face into Bliss’ skirt. For once she wished she could do the same. Dad was the only one of the three who had an actual smile on his face.
The next hour was something of a torture for both girls. Tarot simply disliked all the brightness and sparkles, whereas Bliss felt as if everything about her was being called into question. Not once did she see a skeleton anywhere, and her orange and black stood out. People stared, some whispered and pointed. A few giggled. Was Bliss wrong for just loving to dress up all crazy and spooky? Was something critically unsound in her head because she didn’t wear red and white stripes with spatterings of green?
The drive home was a silent one. Bliss stared out the window the whole time, but she could feel Dad casting her worried looks. Even Tarot was looking at her like she was worried. Christmas music filled the silence, which only made Bliss feel a bit worse. When they got home Bliss only briefly stayed to help bring stuff into the house before retreating to her room.
She sat there for a long time, curled up on the floor and staring at the mirror. She just didn’t fit in with this holiday. Not only that, it was like she stood for everything
against Christmas! But Bliss liked holidays! They were full of fun and happiness and family and friends. So, she should change herself to look more like Christmas, just to fit in with this holiday?
Bliss stood up and went to look in the mirror. Her skeleton faded to be replaced with snowflakes and trees, all going along with the green and red theme. She bit her lip. It just didn’t
feel right.
“I liked th’ skel’t’n better.” Bliss jumped and whirled around. Tarot was watching her sister from the open doorway.
“Why you gotta change it? Why can’tcha do both?” The toddler left before Bliss could answer.
Both? She’d never considered that before. She turned back to the mirror and let the Christmas designs fade. Now the skeleton was back, but this time she’d given the edges distinct red-and-green-stripped markings. Bliss smiled. It was Halloween AND Christmas! This combining thing worked! And if it worked on outfits maybe it could work with songs and decorations. So, singing,
“Deck the halls with silver skeletons-,” at the top of her lungs, she resumed her sunny mood and went to help Dad put some Christmas decorations up.
