The young mare had let her family know she would be leaving. It wasn't entirely surprising, seeing as her sisters had managed to make their way in to the world, but Zara hadn't wanted them to worry. As a gypsy-princess, it was her duty to see the world, and she wasn't going to allow them to keep her locked up any longer.
Her mother had been much more understanding than her father. . . but Baldev had always been more than a little over bearing and protective. It was in his nature, and his girls were his world. Of course, she had failed to mention she would be traveling with Vatsa. They would have expected to meet him, and he would have been shunned due to his impure bloodline. While he possessed the horn and cloven hooves, his lack of proper tail would have caused him to be driven out and away.
She hadn't lied . . .she had merely refrained from acknowledging her journey wouldn't be taken alone. And she hadn't been specific on how long she'd be away. Thankfully, her age and maturity had allowed her to reason with Baldev, and with her mother's blessing, she left the land she had grown to know.
It was time to make her way through life, and today was the day she had promised to meet Vatsa! The violet stallion was friendly, and while they didn't know one another for long, she was pleased to have some companionship along the way. This was what she wanted, wasn't it? To steal away from the castle . . to get away from her father. . . to . . . just . . see the world? Well . . .here it was. Today was the day that might change everything.
Only time would tell. . .at the very least, she'd get to meet new soquili and return with stories to tell. Just because Zara got all the grace and Miki the creativity didn't mean she couldn't whip up an adventure or two herself. Just wait and see. . .she'd prove herself to the world after all these years.
Trotting back to the area they had first bumped in to one another, Zara kept her eyes peeled for the familiar purple form.

Vatsa had waited semi-patiently; not impatient with Zara, never no! But with waiting to see her again, with the situation with her parents. Of course he understood being a filial mare, caring that her parents should not worry about her whereabouts was a large plus to her already considerable charms, but he did so want to see her again, and know that she was as pretty, or more so than the remembered picture in his minds eye.
He had taken to wandering the area in a large circle, and had in fact started to make a path that wound around the trees, across clearings and back again, his hooves kicking up cold mud and brown and crumbling leaves. It maybe wasn't the best time of year to go travelling, but they could take shelter when the weather got bad, and of course keep each other company.
He was eager to speak more with the mare, to fall into an easy walk and speak of everything. Most of all he had heart hopes, but this time he wouldn't pin everything on them in case it all ended as the first time he had thought he had found his mate. He was actually wandering with a purpose this time, although the flowers had long since withered and gone back into the earth until the spring, he wanted to give her something for when she turned up and he found a tree that hadn't quite shed all its leaves.
He reared up, standing on his hind hooves, front ones planted on the trunk and pulled away one of the leaves, an especially brilliant reddish-purple one that he was sure she would like. He dropped down again and listened, the leaf in his mouth, his ears twitching as he was sure he had heard approaching hoofsteps.
'Zfara?' he managed, talking around the leaf.

Thankfully, Vatsa wasn't a very natural coated stallion. He was a rich purple, which meant he stood out like a sore thumb in such a barren landscape! Spring was a long ways away yet, and there wasn't much color left to the world, so something as epically purple as the unicorn was hard to miss.
Zara did have to raise a brow though, an amused smile on her features as her blue eyes narrowed slightly in mirth. "Your lady awaits," she crooned, giving her tail a small wag as she dipped to greet him. To see him raised up on his hindquarters with a mouth full of leaves. . .well. . . it wasn't what she'd expected to find. Chuckling lightly, the mare tilted her head and added, ". . . I see hunger has driven you to stripping the trees bare." Her voice was gentle but teasing, though she hoped he didn't take offense.
She didn't blame him. The pickings were slim, and though she knew of a few spots that were still tender, there was no telling when they might land some good greens during their travels. Thankfully though, that was all part of the fun, and she came from gypsy stock. She was quite resourceful when she needed to be, despite her over protective father. He had taught all of his girls well.
"I do hope I'm not interrupting." She apologized, offering another smile. Part of Zara hoped their travels would bring them to warmer lands. Right now, she was hating her long hair and overly long tail! She had to keep her tail raised or looped high about her leg else the beautiful locks would get mud stained and covered in leaves. As for her mane, she had done her best to clip the longest tresses up, but it would only be a matter of time before they would loosen. And unless she found an obliging raccoon or squirrel . . .well. . . she'd be in a dreadful state with Vatsa present!
Beauty was something that had become second nature. Her sister was the story teller, her other one a singer, and she was a dancer. They were meant to be performers, all three of them, but they were told to ALWAYS take pride in their lineage and their appearance. They were unicorns after all. . . .and while she wasn't shallow, she also didn't want Vatsa to think her a slob.
One needed to put their best hoof forward, after all. . .

He grinned around the leaf and shook his head.
'Fnot at all.' he said, still slightly indistinctly as he presented her with the little gift. 'It's not much, but I couldn't meet you empty hooved..or mouthed as it were.' Vatsa said, laughing softly.
'Interrupting? No of course not.' She was no interruption at all, and he smiled warmly, friendly at the mare. If nothing else she was wonderful company, and he hoped that if she was meeting him to join him on a winters journey than during that they would become good friends.
'Are you well?' he asked, not wanting to jump right into asking if she were ready to go, and instead plumped for being polite and observing the niceties first.
