I adore Jasper Fforde's books, and The Eyre Affair is still one of his best. Anybody else read it?
If not, the story is something like this: Jane Eyre is stolen from the very pages of her book! Since it's written in first person, this obviously poses a problem. Thursday Next, a LiteraTec (detective who deals with anything bookish) must get her back into the book because the fans of the book are beginning to riot. (Note: in this world, books are more important than anything else... even TV!)

Am just reading Something rotten by Fforde, and have a reserve on The big over easy. I think The big over easy is connected sort of with the Friday Next series. Fforde is brilliant. blaugh

AHH! Yet another book I must read. I just reread Wuthering Heights for school, so I was actually seriously considering rereading Jane Eyre while I was at it too!

I loved this novel when I read it. It is a brilliant plot with multiple references to other works of literature on whic many of the jokes are set which I tought was fantastic. I started reading this novel after I read the blurb once and I immediately thought 'This sounds like a good book'. I read it from cover to cover in just under a day and then re-read the ending of Jane Eyre which made me laugh even harder. I have yet to read Fforde's other novels but I'll get there soon.

I know it's been a while since anybody has posted in this topic, but I saw it so had to.
Jasper Fforde's novels are utterly brilliant. The way he ties in pieces of literature, and brings things together, it is wonderful. The stories are artfully pieced together creating a wonderful reading atmosphere. Passage of time? Who notices that while they are reading these books? I sure didn't.
On top of that, his website is absolutely hilarious. He seems to have that humor element outside of writing professionally, which is good.

He reminds me of Terry Pratchet but without the utter randomness.
