User ImageAisling bent her head low, letting her long blond forelock cover the grass. She pinned her ears back and took a deep breath, blowing it out her nostril in a snort. Stupid colts. They always made her so mad. Just because she wanted to join them in their rough housing, they said she was too small and weak. Because she was a female. She wasn't small! And she'd show them how 'weak' a mare could be.

Lifting her head up, she snorted, again, and shook her mane so it fell on either sides of her neck, her forelock always separated. She was too irritated to return to the large herd of horses. She would return once she bent off some steam.

Turning her back on the coloring group, she broke out into a gallop across the fields. Her head was held high as she enjoyed the feel of the wind on her face. She did enjoy a good race. Whether against someone or no one at all. Her blond mane flew behind her, her eyes were wide in excitement. This never failed to cheer her back up. Delighted joy shined in her brown eyes.

Prized frowned. He had been admiring himself in the water when it suddenly started rippling. Lifting his head and giving a snort, he saw the cause of the disturbance: A flighty female galloping right past the pond. The stallion looked around, but saw nothing she might be running from. He was about to go back to staring in the water, when something about this mare got his attention. Maybe it was he long locks whipping in the wind, maybe it was the hight which she held her tail, or maybe it was the gleam in her eyes that seemed to almost challenge anyone of the male variety, but whatever it was, it made him want to give chase. To out-run her. To prove himself just for the sake of proving himself.

Letting out a small whinny, Prized kicked up dirt and took off after her, tossing his head as he closed the distance. For him, speed was a competition. He felt no joy out of it, no fun, only pride and self-satisfaction. Of course, that never bothered the stallion. He lifted his sandy-colored tail up high and shook out his long mane, green eyes glinting with the desire to show off.

As he got up real close to the female, he stretched his neck out and practically grinned at her. Then he tosses his head around again, putting a prance in his step without loosing any speed.

Aisling threw her beautiful head up, causing a ripple to run through her mane like the wind through tall grass. Once she had the field mapped out in front of her, she couldn't resist closing her eyes for a moment. Her ears pinned forward to listen to any sounds of anyone coming in front of her. To anyone happening past her, she must look quite the sight. She knew she was dazzling. It was one of the reasons the colts wouldn't let her play. They didn't want no pretty girlie mare joining their games.

The sound of hooves thundering on the ground made one of her ears swivel back. She opened her eyes and looked back just as another brown horse started to reach her. She hadn't meant to challenge anyone, but if a challenge was what he wanted, a challenge was what he would get.

Her nostrils flared as she snorted in his general direction, accepting the challenge and strengthening her stride. No stallion would outrun her. Oh, no. Not while she still had breath to run.

He grinned. The mare had no idea who she was racing now! Prized poured on the speed, gaining, gaining, until he was neck-and-neck with the blond female. His green eyes shifted to look at her. Being new around these parts, he didn't know anyone. Didn't need to know anyone. However, something about this one made the stallion think this race wan't going to be the last one.

His eyes narrowed on the field ahead, wide open spaces and endless skies. Flaring his own nostrils, Prized lowered his head and tail to help with wind resistance. He lowered his body slightly to lengthen his strides, and with a little snort he gave it all he got!

Aisling snorted at him for the grin he shot her. A cocky one, eh? She dealt with a lot of cocky stallions before. Usually with a swift kick to the jaw. Not enough to break jaws, of course. Just enough they knew not to take her for granted. Pretty she may be. Girlie she may be. But she could fight and would fight.

Stretching out her neck so that her blond mane flew across her brown back, she tried her hardest to keep up with him. It was no good. After about a minute of running and seeing him get further and further ahead, she had to stop. The tip of her nose brushed the grass as she panted hard.

Prized looked back at the mare, who had come to a stand still, and let out a whinny. His galloping turned to triumphant bucking and once he actually stumbled. He wasn't about to admit -or show any signs- that that mare had actually given him a run for his oats. The stallion quickly shook it off, tossing his head about and pawing at the ground. Grinning, he pranced back to the still female, trying hard not to show his heaving sides.

Being the bragging sort of horse, once he got back to her he pranced circles around her, even going so far as to n** at her hooves, though not coming close enough to actually n**. Coming to a stand in front of her lowered head, he raised his up high, his tail up high, puffed out his chest and grinned down at her.

"Beat ya."

The brown mare gave one large sigh, catching her breath enough to raise her nose from the grass. She could still smell the vegetation in her nose. Wrinkling it a bit, she took some steps away from the cocky stallion, flicking her tail warningly in his general direction.

"This time, maybe," she huffed, stomping one hoof on the ground in frustration. "I assure you, not for long." Grinning at him over her shoulder with a smile that told him she wouldn't rest until he was beat, she shook out her mane. Aisling didn't like to lose. Nor did she give up on proving herself to anyone and everyone. She could be a bit of a pest, since she would follow that person around, not resting until she was satisfied.

Giving another snort, she turned her head back fully around to look him over. He wasn't familiar to her. Just by one glance, she knew he wasn't in the Cimarron herd, or she would have seen him already. It might be a large herd, but you came to know the colors of the members pretty quickly, seeing them every day as you grazed and played. In fact, this is the first time she had run into him in all her runs away from the herd lands. He was strangely colored, like a creature that belonged far away. His mane reminded her of the color of very dried out straw.

Prized frowned and shook out his own mane. He didn't like others showing off their beauty in his face. It almost saddened him to have to put them in their placed. He was the most dazzling horse around. No mare was going to out shine him.

"Persistant, are we?" He mocked. "That's fine. I'll beat you any time, any where." With a sudden kick of his hooves he leapt away from the mare, kicking up grass and dirt, and galloped a second before turning to prance around her again.

"Besides, everyone knows a stallion can run faster than a mare." Prized nodded his head like this was just a well known fact.

Aisling watched the brown stallion with one brow cocked, her head turning around and facing the other way when he circled her. Why, yes. She was persistent. That wasn't going to change just because one stallion thought he was better.

"I'll race you anytime, anywhere," she snorted, rolling her eyes skyward. A blade of grass and dirt had perched itself on her nose after his kick. This caused her to shake her head, making half her mane slide to the other side, splitting it down the back of her neck like her forelock always did. With one huff, she blew the little piece of grass back over to its disturber.

"You must not have had many races, than," she concluded, laying her ears back at his attitude.

He dodged the grass like it was filth that would stain his coat.

"I've had plenty of races," Prized lied through his teeth. "And won every one of them." There was no way he was letting her know that was the first time he'd raced anyone. Other horses had challenged his looks, but non had thought to challenge his speed. Winning the race with her had just boosted his cocky attitude up a level.

Her. Who was she, anyway?

The stallion snorted and flicked his tail. "You have a name, mare?"

Aisling lowered her ears flatter against her head as she turned to face him, lowering her head towards the grass in irritation at his attitude. "Certainly not mare," she growled, rolling her eyes skyward, again. "Ox." She took one mouthful of grass before answering him, lifting her head up high. She was letting him get her too riled up. The chewing action seemed to calm her down some. With her ears still flat enough to show her mood, she swallowed and eyed him from the corner of her eye. "My name is Aisling."

Without waiting for an answer, the brown mare walked towards him and one side, investigating this strange horse she had never seen before. In fact, his color alone was something she hadn't seen on any other horse. "Yours, your majesty?" Ears perked back forward. She gave him a little grin as she rounded his other side, flicking her tail in the opposite direction.

Prized's own ears swiveled back at the 'Ox' comment. Ox? Did he look like an ox??? No! He looked like a prize winning stallion, just as his name suggested. Ox. What nerve she had!

As the mare rounded him, he pranced sideways a step or two, just in case this feisty female decided to swat or n** at him.

His ears perked back up at her last comment. "Well," Prized puffed out his chest and shook out his mane as he raised his head high, striking a regal pose. "Aisling, you are certainly welcome to call me that if you wish." Referring, of course, to 'your majesty'.

Well, he certainly was a charmer, wasn't he? Aisling could honestly say she hadn't yet met a stallion as cocky as this one. Not by far. And she had known some cocky attitudes.

The mare noted how he sprang to the other side. What was he afraid of? For all the snorting she did, she wasn't one to over-react that way and bite someone. She certainly didn't look scary. At least she didn't think so. Made her wonder, for all the boastful talking, how much interaction with others he had had.

A sly smile crossed her lips as she came back to his front, standing a few feet from him and staring at him while she faced another direction. Not that a horse could look straight in front of them, anyway. "That works perfectly fine with me," she grinned, speaking in a singsong voice. "I rather like Ox."

WHAT?!?! Prized's legs nearly gave out, and he stumbled out of his pose. "Wh-what? I didn't... you surly... but... but... no!!!" He was caught so off guard he couldn't even find the right words. Ox! Of all the... most outrageous things to call such a stallion as him! Ox! He snorted a few times, trying to regain his composure.

"That is not what I meant at all, mare, and you know it!" His wide eyes still betrayed his incredulous reaction to such name-calling. "Of all the..." He began pacing back and fourth. Prized just couldn't wrap his mind around this female! "Ox! Do I look like an ox to you?!?" He cried, swiveling to look at Aisling. Then he shook his head before she could answer, knowing exactly what would come from that... that... smart alack. "No no no, I do not look like an ox at all!" Shaking his head once more he started pacing again.

"Fine." He turned to face her again. "My name is Prized." He tried to strike another pose, though this one wasn't as cocky as the last.

The grin on Aisling's face widened. His reaction was priceless. Absolutely priceless. With a snort of laughter, she pranced around him once before he started his pacing. That would teach him to think her an easy win. He may have won the race, but she just scored a point in wittiness. And she felt very proud of herself. There was more than a pretty face and pair of strong legs on her.

"That's better," she laughed, bumping him in the side with her forehead. Another evil grin crossed her lips and she pranced sideways away from reach of his teeth and hooves. "An ox? Maybe you do. Aren't they a dark brown, too?" Flicking her tail at him, she laughed, again, trotting in a circle to face him, still out of reach. "You certainly don't look like any horse I've seen."
