Doris and ??? live in number 11, Setone, Ar'Idil. Setone appears to be set up in a somewhat circular way, and Doris is happy to note that her home is set quite near the center.

When you first enter Doris's home, you may be somewhat taken by surprise by all of the pictures decorating the walls. The pictures depict Doris as a younger woman, a mother, surrounded by her five children, all near the same age, and her now-deceased husband. Their is still plenty of room for the pictures she plans to take of all of the island people and of ??? itself. Trust me. She'll find a way. >>

Doris's bedroom is on the first floor, a makeshift little room conatining only a bed, a small bedside dresser with a lamp perched on top, and a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe. Dierctly across the "hall" from her bedroom is the large and spacious kitchen, the biggest room in the house, and obviously Doris's favorite.

Instead photographs decorationg the walls of her sunny kitchen, there are little post-it notes and drawings hung in random places with cheery saying written on them.

The living room isn't exactly a room, but part of the main section of the house. It's tucked away in a corner, and contains the fire place and hearth, Doris's favorite rocking chair, and a couch and loveseat for guests, her grumpy cat, Draike, and soon, her little Aerandir.

In the corner opposite the "living room" is the large bathroom, decorated in Bird of Paradise Flowers and cool blue tones.

Doris often spend her time, if the weather is right, knitting on her front porch, sitting in yet another rocking chair, ready to offer cookies (or whatever else she may have just cooked - sometimes entire meals) to anyone who may be passing by, as there is nothing that brings her greater joy than to have her cooking complimented and sought after.

The second floor is mainly used for storage for now, as Doris has a bad knee and is unable to climb the ladder succesfully.

It's just a jar right now, honey. When it's in the mind to have friends, I'll be sure to spoil 'em, too.

Here's Tayte in his cute little jars, the day I received 'em. So far he's nice and quiet. Thoughtful, I'd say. Such sweet little jars he is.

This is Tayte with both his artifacts in a single jar. After a bit of research, it was discovered that chances are very likely that he'll be a male, so his name is Xylon Lynley Aran Tayte Meriweather. But we call him Tayte for short. It won't be long until he emerges!

Here is the picture of Tayte right after he emerged from his jar. Gorgeous feller, isn't he? Love those wings. Remind me of a feathered butterfly, they do. And that long, sleek body. You are a beauty, Tayte, yes, you are.

Dear d**k,

A few weeks ago I applied for a program called Aerandir, remember?

It's been hard, d**k, since you left, and Rebecca has been pressuring me to do something with myself. They say I've been moping around lately, though I can't imagine why they would say that.

On a lighter note, look what I received today! And even better, I get an all-expense-paid move to a tropical island, just like we always wanted to do, just the two of us. I'm taking that beautiful locket that you gave me on our 42nd Anniversary, and I feel like you're moving to Ar'Idil with me. And of course you are.

letter
Welcome,

You have been invited to join the Aerandir programme, congratulations! Within this note you'll find some useful things to get you to started with your new charge. First of all you'll need to make your way to the Island. To that end we have included a ticket for yourself with this letter.

Your boat should take you right to Ar'Idil which is the site of your new lodgings. Your allocated home is number 11. The house will be open when you arrive there, keys inside the door should you feel the need to lock up.

There is plenty of information about the Aerandir in the Lodge - the main community centre of the Island. You will be able to get most supplies there - there is plenty of food and provisions, a small library, Aerandir information and suchlike. If there is anything you need but can't find then please contact the administrator of Ar'Idil - Anthony Blakewell.

Thank you for helping in our endeavour to bring back the Aerandir

Project Administrator

p.s. I included a picture of your new charges taken when they were first put in their jars.

I feel like I've won the lottery! I'm so happy! And isn't that feather just darling? I'll take such good care of the little Aerandir. I'll love it like a grandchild.

Moving out was nothing difficult. Though Doris had lived in the cheery house in the welcoming neighborhood all of her adult life, she left it with a sort of fond relief. She had grown tired of her life. It was getting her nowhere. She was retired, all of her children had grown up, married, and moved away.

And d**k was gone, now, too.

Her children had been pressuring her to get out, sell the house, take up a hobby, anything to move on, to forget that d**k was dead. But it had been a natural death, a comfortable one. He had not suffered. So she could not suffer either. He would want her to move on.

The hardest part about moving away was Timmy, the little red-haired boy from down the road who often came to visit Doris after school, eating cookies and keeping her company. When he heard that she was leaving, he wrapped himself around her leg and bawled. She patted his head gently and promised to send cookies for his birthday. And Christmas. And Easter. Yes, and Halloween, too.

And maybe Draike. Draike hated boats. But on the other hand, Draike hated anything that wasn't his idea. Her son Cory had given Draike the cat to her to keep her company when d**k died. Company he was, but it wasn't pleasant. He was sarcastic and cold and grumpy.

Nothing Doris couldn't handle.

Much to Draike's chagrin, Doris had raised five teenagers. At once. She was not afraid of anything.

Doris walked pensively through her now-empty house. She had lived in this house for the past 40 or so years, through good times and bad times. She could not remember it being so empty.

Doris ran her hand along the wall. There were square and rectangular-shaped marks on the wallpaper, evidence of the picture frames that had once hung on this wall. Their wedding picture had hung here. And Rebecca's Prom picture had been just below that. And off to the side, their first complete family photo, with all seven of them captured on film for the first time.

She remembered the time that Jessica had won that art contest when she had been twelve. She had been so happy, she couldn't sit still for days. They had gone out for icecream to celebrate.

And the time Rebecca had placed third in the talent show. She had bragged about it for months, never letting anyone forget it. How thrilled she had been when she placed first the following year.

Out for icecream again.

And when Cory's basketball team had gone to state. Doris had spent that whole week baking cakes and cookies with their team's logo all over them.

And then they had gone out for icecream.

Doris smiled to herself.

Yes, those had been the good times, alright. The whole house was painted in them. Quite literally, Doris thought, serveying a crayon-drawing on the wall that had never quite washed away.

But now it was time to move on.

Doris nodded to herself, then walked out the front door, locking it behind her for the very last time.

Ar'Idil, she thought. Here I come.

Dear d**k,

It was quite a bit of a walk from the dock to Setone, the island I'll now be living on. But don't worry yourself, I managed fine, and I could've used the excersize, anyway.

I do believe that I arrived in quite some style, though, both Aerandir jars held under one arm, and a water-logged Draike under the other. The moment Draike realized we were on a boat, and that the boat was going to move, he tried to swim back to Barton. Didn't work too well. A friendly sailor managed to fish him out of the water and then offered him some fish. But he was grumpy the whole trip, and at one point I had to sit on him to keep him from diving overboard again.

Setone is set up in a kind of circle, all of the houses facing inward, and the Lodge, the biggest building in the place, is off to the side. I live in Number 11, which is nestled cozily into the center of the circle of houses, which I agree with perfectly.

So far I quite like the house, though it is rather a bit smaller than our old one. Even Draike seemed to approve of our new living quarters. The only thing that really bothers me is that in order to reach the top floor, I am required to climb a ladder. My knee won't hear of it, so for now the upper floor will be used for storing blankets, extra clothing, yarn, cloth, and those boxes of old childrens' toys I brought with me.

So far I have not met any of my neighbors. I was so tired from the walk to Setone that I collapsed into sleep the moment my home was set up. But now that all of the work is done, I shall go become aquainted with my new neighbors.

Until next time!

Official Document

Dear Mrs Meriweather,
I am happy to note that the accomodation you were allocated has now reached a stage which is suitable for your Aerandir items to be placed together within a single bottle. This will allow for them to "merge" - admittedly, however, this process may take some time.

The reason I am writing to you is to confirm that we have a name for your Aerandir for our records. Further study of the evidence gleaned from your artifacts has shown that it is 76% likely to be male. I included this information with the hope of perhaps aiding you in choosing a name. If you could get back to me with haste I will arrange for all of the formalities to be completed so that we may start you on your way as an Aerandir guardian.

Yours sincerely,

Anthony Blakewell,
Ar' Idil Administrator.
