Today I purchased a W126 chassis, Mercedes 420SEL. It's one of those ultimate classic luxury cruisers. It has a 4.2L V8 engine in the front, a 203 inch body length, and a curb weight of nearly two tons, or more accurately 3,682lb. I have owned it only one day, and I already love this thing to death. The leather seats are more like sofas than car seats, the 4.2L V8 up front makes for smooth cruising and is an absolute highway dream. It never grumbles, never roars. It's like a butler, doing things quickly, efficiently, and most important, silently. I didn't have time for pics today, but I will get on that MAYBE tomorrow, depending on how bad the rain is and how much time I have during the daylight hours. Here's some rainy day, quick snaps of the Merc for you guys! biggrin Yeah, I know, I don't have the time or the ability to put a piece of paper on the car saying my name right now. It's raining. But, here's a bit of evidence, using my Integra as a sign. lol Nov. 25 2010 Happy Thanksgiving, fellow members! I got some pics taken to show you guys. smile

It's actually in really good condition. There are some small features that are a bit iffy here and there, like the back right window's regulator that might be on its way out. But, all in all, the exterior and interior is well maintained and well kept. smile
Its raining pretty hardcore out today, but I'll see what I can do; maybe a quick snap or two.

I was gonna ask about the engine displacement, but it completely slipped my mind. That's pretty impressive all around. How much did you end up scoring that for?

Ethereal Cereal I was gonna ask about the engine displacement, but it completely slipped my mind. That's pretty impressive all around. How much did you end up scoring that for? Believe it or not, I got it for $1600. A car broker friend of mine/ Mercedes enthusiast says that a 420SEL in this condition should be worth around $3000-4000, so I consider myself very lucky. smile

Lucky indeed! That's a respectable amount for a car like that.

Ethereal Cereal Lucky indeed! That's a respectable amount for a car like that. Haha, yeah, it did take quite a bit of patience and waiting. I've been looking at cars for the past few months, looking at anything from Cressidas, to Merc SELs, to BMW 7 series. And, in the end, the Mercedes reliability and the amazing room in the SELs won out and it became a waiting and hunting game for the right SEL. Luck and patience, my friend. smile

Yeah, I've heard a lot about the reliability of Mercedes-Benz in general. That may be the car I end up getting if the financial aid thing plays out the way I want it to.

From what I understand, Martin Brundle said it was one of the best-driving FR chassis of that time period. dramallama

Haha, thank you for the invitation and the compliment. biggrin
I'm really just taken aback by how well kept this car is. The body, the chrome trim, it's just remarkable and still shining prettily even after 21 years. smile
I'll try to take a lot more pics in the future, and soon I'll get more pictures up after it stops being all wet and rainy outside. wink

I want to see the interior. It's gotta be a palace in there.
I think if I can find an older 190E for a reasonable price, I may try to find a 16v cylinder head and swap the old 8v out, then put an Evolution II bodykit on. s**t would look cash.
