Zandali was in an excellent mood. What wasn't there to be happy about in his life? Oh, sure, he'd been little better than a slave to the slow, two-legged creatures for a good, long while now, but all of that had changed upon bringing him to these cool, jungle-less lands. A sharp snap of his teeth against the ropes that they'd wrapped around his neck, and he'd been free as a bird, dashing off among the tall grasses! Oh, they'd done their best to give chase, but he'd been too fast for them... and now, here he was.
Chuckling to himself at the thought, the brightly colored stallion sauntered through one of the many forests he'd spotted recently, able to appreciate the dense foliage even if it could hardly compare to the thick, muggy heat of the jungle that he was used to. Still, the sights, the smells--they were all different from what he was used to, and he couldn't help but be intrigued.
Stepping with light hooves, the former warhorse paused to scratch his shoulder against the rough bark of a tree, making a low sound of pleasure in his throat. What a life. Free to do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted! That didn't sound half bad at all--especially not if he could find some pleasant company to keep...

The richly hued mare was stood in a clearing, her eyes shut for the moment, tilting her head as she followed the sound of the birds in the tree branches around her. She was slowly beginning to recognise the individual song and calls, learning to tell the difference between that which greeted the sun, or called for family - or a call of alarm. More to the point she enjoyed the sounds, the song coupled with the gentle noise of the remaining leaves. A short, strong gust flicked some of the fallen ones up and around her, and she opened her eyes when a brown, dry leaf landed on her nose.
Nalani smiled and puffed upwards with her breath, watching it spiral back down to the ground. She flicked her ears, listening to the bird song and then looked around. The noise had changed, not to a direct alarm call but a trilling 'someone is nearing' sort of sound.
She turned on her hooves, looking around and listening for any signs of somebody approaching this time, moving quietly across the leaf strewn grass and over towards the tree line, peering into the greenish gloom.

It was impossible to miss such a colored beauty among the more earthy tones of the land, and Zandali temporarily stopped his itching to eye the delicate mare who peered into the trees. Before he could even think about stopping himself, he let out a low whistle of appreciation, pushing himself to his hooves before he sauntered closer. How much luckier could he get today? She certainly was a beauty of a mare, and a shark-like grin pulled widely at his mouth even as he continued to eye her up and down.
" 'Ey dere. Must be mah lucky day, gettin' ta see such a beautiful ting dis mornin', eh?" He chuckled at that, momentarily eying the blossoms at the base of her tail.
If he was aware he was being bold, he didn't seem to pay any mind. "Tell me, 'ow's a pretty lil ting like you doin' today? Wanderin' 'bout all by yerself, jus' askin' for some company." And then he had the audacity to wink at her, brushing against her side with his body. No one would be surprised if he got himself bit!

'Hello.' Nalani said, colouring slightly at his first noise, a whistle that seemed quite fresh considering they had just met..but maybe he was simply calling to the birds? She didn't want to draw attention to it, that would be rude, and she smiled after her greeting.
She was finding his accent to be a little difficult and so she had to listen carefully to his words, unaware that he had drawn closer than was comfortable. She drew back, inwardly crying out at such a forward move, a terrible breach of etiquette, but outwardly she kept her composure, even managing to answer him. She considered that maybe he was foreign (which was an assumption she made based on his appearance and accent), and so perhaps what she knew as proper behaviour he didn't.
'I am good, thank you sir for asking.' she bobbed her head at him. 'My home is hereabouts, so I'm not wandering, just enjoying my company, and the melodies of the song birds. Might I ask, are you from around here?'
Maybe he had an excuse for his manners, and mannerisms, maybe not, but she was determined that there would be no change in her usual countenance.

Zandali couldn't help but grin at her formality, unused to such a thing. While it was true that he hadn't spent any time in the company of females for quite some time, the kind he was used to tended to be fiery, saucy creatures, and would have found his advances quite welcoming!
"Ahh, a songbird ye be, then." He said wisely, as though that told him everything he needed to know about this little mare. "And tha' feelin' be mutual, in that regard." He was enjoying her company too, after all! It never quite occurred to him that maybe she hadn't been referring to him, but even if he had, well, he could roll with the punches.
The stallion offered a lazy grin at her inquiry, and with a casual shrug, said, " I be comin' from deep in da jungles, far from dis place. Made mah grand escape just a lil while ago, eh? Good luck for you, me be thinkin'." He craned his neck out and, rather shamelessly, took a bite of the blossoms just above her tail. Maybe that would get a reaction, eh? The girls back home would have loved that.
Well, maybe.

Nalani had to restrain herself from a slighty lip purse..a small movement with her head was the only betrayal of the fact that she felt like shaking her head at him, or even, her mother forgive her, roll her eyes and sigh at his behaviour! But she wouldn't, she would continue to comport herself in the best way she knew how and than when she went home she would have a long discussion with her mother about this stallions..different manners.
'Not really, my enjoyment comes from listening to the bird song, I'm not sure I could carry a tune so well.' she chuckled softly in a self-deprecating manner.
'Jungle? I am sorry to say I've never heard that word, let alone know what it is like. If you have the time, I would enjoy hearing about your home..' the sentence had just left her mouth when he aimed and got the lotus flower adorning the base of her tail.
'Sir!' she exclaimed, moving a large step away from him, her forehead wrinkled in confusion. 'Please, if you are hungry there are still many edible plants despite the season.'
