Gato yawned as she told herself to wake up. She was off to go see what was needed for a shrine being set up, and needed to meet with the keeper. Carina was her name, Gato was told, and starting early in the morning was a good way to make as much progress as possible. Salma was busy rushing everyone around, but Gato's claws could only grow so fast. Hopefully there would be more than just her and Edea as carvers soon. It was fabulous work, Gato didn't understand why more didn't do it!

Another yawn, and Gato shook her head. No yawning in front of the keeper! She would look like she didn't want to work, when in fact she was ready to work. Carving was much more interesting than she had thought at first, and there was always work to be done. It was just...easier when the carver went to the shrine, instead of carving in one location and having the shifters move them. Accidents were possible, and a waste of work wasn't wanted.

"Carina?" she asked softly into the air around her. She wasn't sure of her exact location...

Carina had reported, somewhat reluctantly, to the area she had deemed most appropriate for the shrine she was to keep. She was still adjusting to being in a pride and found her awkwardness was much more obvious the more she was forced to interact with others- it was just easier to ignore when interactions were rare. She was still bent on making a good impression on everybody, though. It would have been nice to have Thea around but she was still working her way around learning as much as she could about their new home.

She was wandering around, keeping herself occupied while she waited, when she heard her name-- or she was quite sure she did. The space chosen for the shrine was near the heart of the pride's lands, in a clearing amidst the trees. Guessing the carver had arrived, Carina headed out from the trees into the clearing to make herself obvious-- and she squinted in Gato's direction. She would have been hard not to see.

"Hello!"

Gato was pleased to hear a return call. She picked her head up to be greeted by a lioness, spotted and pretty and probably ready to work. Mmph, early. Oh well, Gato could sleep again tonight.

"Hello," she replied, a smile cropping up on her face. Time for work. She glanced around, but wasn't surprised to see it so quiet. While they had a pretty good pawful of members, the lands were large enough to make it feel empty.

"Sorry, I feel like I'm a little late," Gato said, bobbing her head. "I'm Gato, a carver at your service."

"No, I'd say you're right on time," Carina said brightly, glancing around through the quiet morning and back to Gato when she introduced herself, "It's nice to meet you, Gato. Thank you for coming to help."

Carina paused and circled around the clearing thoughtfully. She knew basically what had to be done, it was figuring out how to get started that would be tricky.

"So, we're kind of far from the mountains, we need to get some rocks here before we can really do anything," she said, "I figured you'd be good to talk to before getting anything moved. It would be easier to move things in first."

"Oh!" For some reason, Gato already thought that there were some stones here, but obviously that hadn't been relayed to her. No problem. She had to work with shifters often enough that she knew how it went. At least with the two that they had at the moment.

"Well, that's easy enough. I can find a shifter to move some stones over to here. Hmmm. It might take a while, yeah..." Maybe there were some stones already nearby, or at least not as far as the mountains. Stones could be anywhere, it was just a matter of looking, and fitting the needs.

"Do you have any idea how many you'd like? At least, to start out with." Some keepers wanted more, others started slowly.

"Getting a lot would take a lot more time, and there aren't that many carvers yet, are there?" Carina said thoughtfully, not bothering to hide a glance down to Gato's paws. This would be the hardest part of .. well, everything. There were only a couple carvers and a very large number of shrines to set up. Even ignoring ones that did not yet have keepers, there would be too many to finish quickly. Setting up would take forever.

"I was thinking we'd need a lot," she said, "And that maybe I could help once we have the stones where we need them. That's not really my job but if you'd help me figure it out, it'll go quicker, right?"

Perhaps this was ultimately why Carina had wanted to talk to someone other than Idothea. Her sister had plenty of reassuring things to say but hearing it from someone who was more directly involved in this process.. that would help. Imagining everything getting set up efficiently wasn't working with only two carvers. Carina did like to think of Culture as deserving of a large shrine.. but she couldn't seem to ignore all the little things that made culture.

"Hmmm." It couldn't hurt showing Carina how to carve. She could help with some of them, and that meant that her shrine would grow faster than if only Gato did the carving. She glanced at her paws, looked back up to the lioness, and nodded.

"Alright. We'll start with a few, and we can schedule more to be delivered over a short time span. That'll give you a little time to know just where you want which stone to go." Some keepers didn't seem to mind quite so much, but Gato had a hunch that Carina might. Which was completely within their right. She just carved the symbols in the stone, nothing more.

"Ok, one last question," she smiled apologetically. "Do you want the stones around the same size? Or a few larger and a few smaller?"

Carina thought nothing of the pause and waited patiently for Gato to come up with an answer for her. It just made sense to help put her own shrine together. Still, she looked very pleased when Gato agreed.

"Great! That sounds very good," she nodded, and then looked on with interest when Gato asked what stones she would need. Her immediate thought was to say many large stones but when she opened her mouth, no sound came out and she quickly looked around. They weren't in a very large open space, too many large stones would be impractical. Not to mention how far away the larger stones would be.

"I would like some large stones," she said, looking back to Gato, "I think some of each would be best."

Gato smiled warmly. "Great!" This would make things a bit easier, even if it would take a little more time. There was a lot of time around to use so why not? "Ok. I'm sure we can get one of the movers to start bringing some stones over tomorrow. I'll show you what you need to do to carve, and by then we should have most if not all the stones here. Maybe I can con both of the movers to get here....that way you'll be all set even sooner." Plotting, plotting.

She shook her head to clear her mind. "Regardless, that's when we'll get started." She glanced around, still thinking.

"Do you know where you want to stones to go yet? I guess you could work on that now...and I'd be happy to help you if you need a little extra paw work, or just an opinion."

"I don't know any of the shifters," Carina said thoughtfully, looking around the clearing she had selected as the conversation continued, not worried about looking back at Gato. They wouldn't need much convincing but where Carina wasn't familiar with them yet, it might be trickier for her to get sorted.

"Tomorrow will be a good day to start, and that will give me plenty of time to decide, you don't have to help with that," she said, walking around in a small circle, stopping a spot near the middle of the clearing before finally looking back to Gato.

Gato nodded. "Well, you'll at least see their faces starting tomorrow." She paused, as everything seemed to be in order. "I'll go find them now, let them know what they need to get going for tomorrow." She flicked her tail as she glanced around, but Carina looked ready to work. At least that meant that she was happy. Right? Hopefully. She was a hard one to judge, as it was something that Gato wasn't really good at.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow then." She offered another smile. "Bright and early again, if you don't mind. Lots to do, set up, and go over."
PostPosted: Fri Dec 03, 2010 9:30 pm

"That sounds perfect," she said brightly, "Thank you for meeting with me this morning."

It seemed silly where they were now going to wait but that was just how things worked out. It was better to be safe than sorry, Carina was bad at predicting the outcomes of most conversations. This way she would have had all day if necessary. Perhaps she could still catch up with Idothea and Msingi. Or perhaps she would be best off staying where she was. No.. Thea had been part of the decision to give them plenty of time, she wouldn't be back on her own until much later. Carina would have to go find her herself.

"See you tomorrow!" she said to Gato and then stopped hesitating and made her getaway, heading off in the direction Thea and Msingi had gone earlier that morning.
