Someone recently said that my pencil lines looks 'simple and messy' and I need different opinions on it since it's been making me sad lately. No I'm not I'm not going to stop drawing, I have just been practicing. Also it's better I get critiques from more than one person because everyone sees something different. If you think my shading isn't adequate please tell why so I know what to change. If you think it's good, it'd be best to tell me why or what offsets it to make it look nice. Please, express yourself with the fullest extent.

I am probably not the best person to be doing the first critique but I will give it a shot.
It probably would have helped if the person had defined what they meant by "simple" and "messy". Looking at just the line work itself, it does not seem simple to me at all and, by the way, the proportions and anatomy look very nice. smile
I can see that your style of shading is mostly loose and relaxed than say a photo realistic pencil drawing, and I can see the pencil marks in your shading but I feel that does not detract from the picture.
One way you could smooth out your shading is to use a smoothing or blending tool (I have no clue what they are called! gonk ) that will allow you to blend your pencil marks smooth. Darkening the lining and shading of the eyes might help them to define them more.
Other than that I think it is incredibly cute and I especially love the little girl's feet! smile

Overall I have to say it's really cute and I like it a lot, but you came here for critique, not gushing compliments so moving on.
You have a nice grasp on shading already but your value scale is not dark enough. Don't be afraid to really get those darks in there, they make a piece pop. Your shading could use a little bit more refining and touchups in spots. It takes a lot of focus to keep the shading consistent. Other then that, practice, practice, practice. Good luck.
