Mkali'Shetani was a stereotypical male. Wanting to live the wild life, being the bad boy, he did whatever to get in his way. And for the most part life has been good to him. But today he felt....unsure... "Ehh what can it be, today’s just gonna' be like any other day, long and boring" He stated nonchalantly shaking of the felling of uneasiness. Today he was lounging about in the rouge lands as usual; he was just waking up from a cat-nap to find the sun beaming down on him. He lay under the shade of a tree near a watering hole he was fond of.
Kal let out a monstrous yawn and stood up stretching his limbs before casually walking to the shore. He looked down at his reflection; he couldn't help but think himself as, well quite handsome. But he normally believed this, he was always arrogant, knew it, he didn't care. The way he was admiring himself some might consider him a modern-day Narcissus. He bent his head down and began lapping at the water, feeling the cool water hit his throat as he swallowed was quite refreshing... but even as the water continued to slide down his throat he still felt unease.

A voice that was carried out with an innocuous tone braved their unpredictable circumstances and dared to ask: "Did you get on the bad side of a God?"
Roka was no prophet. If she were, she'd have laughed at him. She almost did just in feeling secure of her affirmation never before had she laid eyes on someone who looked so foreboding. The world hadn't gone crazy; since she were born, things were always this way. Everyone had some past incident to mourn, some cause to play martyr for. Everyone had someone after them.
Roka's posture was much more relaxed than his. He got a clear view of it after her playful interrogation ended and she joined him by the shore almost, but not quite, within reach. Her head bowed to the water, taking in a mouthful. Silenced, she awaited his answer or the mute sound of rejection she'd become just as accustomed to. For every friendly lion, there were two bad-tempered personalities sent to infect the rest of them.
To that jovial odd man out it must have been discouraging. Roka didn't know what her role in that theory was; she wasn't an ornery stranger or a replica of her softhearted sister burdened by her own goodwill in the face of so much hate. She was... well, she liked to think of herself as a progressive neutral party sent to decode and evaluate everyone. Every type from the disgruntled mood-killers and all the way down the line to the most docile of identities.
This one she predicted fell somewhere in between, favoring the less empathetic side.

Kal raised his head up from the water and analyzed the female. He didn't notice the female approach; if he had she would never have gotten this close. "I beg your pardon" He snapped. Eyes glaring at her, "What is that supposed to mean," He spat out the words through his teeth. He stood stoic making himself seem as big as possible. He had never heard anyone talk to him in such a tone. Normally he was feared by others; but her... she was stouthearted. On some level it was quite refreshing to meet someone with such self-confidence, but on another he felt like his respect was being diminished.
He wasn't sure what to do, he just glared at her. Analyzing her, he would never harm a female. But such bold words might be a problem. However, she was quite attractive. Kal has seen many females during his journeys, many of which who were not as beautiful as the catch he hold in front of him. He knew if he wants to get of the female good side it would take more the cunning words. He would have to be… respectful and a gentleman… But was she worth it. Kal was always up for female enjoyment but if she was a lost cause he wasn’t going to try. Kal knew only time would tell if this dame was worth it, he just hope he wasn’t getting in over his head.
Kal tried to relax his posture and allowed a slight smile appear across his muzzle. “I am Mkali'Shetani, but you may call me Kal for short.” He said trying to sound as noble as he could as he bowed his head slightly at the female.

Another grouchy one, Roka thought.
The water before her was so inviting she couldn't refuse it. Besides, if things took a turn for the worse and she had to go, she didn't want to be forced away still feeling thirsty. She could still hear him as she drank, asking what her words were 'supposed to mean'. Roka wasn't as adult as she presented herself; refusing her eyes permission to roll was more taxing than it should have been.
"I am Mkali'Shetani, but you may call me Kal for short."
Surprise was too strong a word for what she felt, and she couldn't have told you what the correct one was. Vocabulary wasn't her strong point. Lions were. She knew a thing or two about the other big cats, the birds and everything in between - but nothing had she studied so loyally as her own kind.
"Kal," she repeated, in an odd sort of way. Her voice was amused, similar to that of someone whose old friend - named 'Kal' - had told a joke that was humorous, but not politically corrected. It was scolding and joyous and, more than anything, a combination she was curious if he could recognize. Did someone like this have any 'old friends' to compare her to?
If not, she knew he was still comparing her to someone.
"You've got some curious mood swings there. Looking at me like that really brightened your mood that much, did it?" Roka shook her head, not at him, but to rid herself of the moisture clinging to her muzzle. "You know what my sister told me?" There it was again, that conversational tongue. "She told me there are superficial males out there that try and charm pretty females, then take off. --Actually, she did mention some of them stay around just long enough to steal her children."
Backing up from the shore, she grinned at him and asked, "Isn't that something?"

Shocked by how easily she read him, he managed to keep him composure.Thoughts raced through his head. who is this lioness, how can she read me so well! She... shes.... she so much wiser then i anticipated. Kal knew this female was trouble,so smart, so cunning, much like him. This would be a problem; she has a wicked tongue, how will he make his next move. Clearly she is much smart then others he has run into in to past. However she was right about him, as many flings as he has had, he wouldnt know if he had children. He really didn't care. Females were just possessions to him. He knew he would probably never 'settle down' with anyone. The lioness was right, he wouldn't stay. Well unlesss he had good reaon, VERY good reason. So kal continued his surade utterly unaffect by what the lioness has said to him.
"I just have never seen a lioness as attractive as you." Which was true, none had been as quite as ravashing as her. "And that is omething, what horrible animal would do just a thing, leave a poor female alone to take care of cubs. Thats just cruel." It took all his mental strength to not laugh at his own foolishness. He knew he was lying through his teeth, he just hoped that this female wasn't so observent. He wanted to move away from this topic before he got in to deep.
He smiled genuinely at the young female. "Well you know my name, May i ask for yours?" He wanted to know the name of this clever girl. He sat facing the female, he knew he had to keep a small smile across his muzzle the entire time.

Roka didn't embrace the pride that came with being complimented based on visual observations. She couldn't resist feeling at least a little smug, but she dismissed this reaction as ridiculous - childish. A lion could not help how their fur looked; character was what should decide their worth.
Besides... Her sisters were much cuter than she was.
"Tanana," the lioness lied, but it was believable. "Have you ever heard that name before?"
If the road to Hell really was paved with good intentions, Roka was on a one-way trip with no rest stops in between. She gave her mother's name, not hers, because Tanana so valiantly continued to search for her sisters and brothers - those unfortunate souls born Firekin slaves and split up when they were freed.
The more publicity the name got, the better her chances of finding them.

Kal was surprised she gave her name with such ease. Maybe she wasn’t as cleaver as he though. "Such a beautiful name for a beautiful female," Although she was quite beautiful his top five perhaps; however her colors did seem a bit plain. He always loved the more eccentric colors, much like himself. He always loved those who stand out among the crowd, however her marking where quite elegant and exceptional for his taste. "No, I have not heard the name before." Kal stated completing his earlier statement.
"It is a one of a kind for a one of a kind lioness." He lied but he spoke with a candor tone. Why was a young female like her traveling alone? Usually this was perfect bait for him, a poor young female all alone and in need of some comfort. He smirked, but this was smart, which meant he had to be smarter. But could he do it? He would try, if he didn’t this get this one, then he would get the next. Females are females, all the same to him, nothing more than toys.
Kal looked at the young female, "So what’s a young girl like you doin’ traveling by yourself?” he was honestly curious. He thought it to be a fair question.

"It's original, maybe." Roka kept thinking he could lay on the blanket of compliments, layer after layer, and she'd remain cold to his advances. Still, she didn't ask for him to stop, so the flattery wasn't on deaf ears. She didn't much care about the ones praising her name since it wasn't really hers. Besides, names were like coats; you got stuck with what you got stuck with and had no say in it. (To her knowledge; one day, she'd known plenty of prides had second names or even ceremonies in which a lion did, in fact, name themselves.)
"Just because I'm younger than you doesn't mean I'm young." That was just a guess, her being his junior. Roka had not seen two years worth of sunsets yet; there was a lot more ahead of her, she hoped, but not as many as she could of had if she didn't stop sticking her nose where it didn't belong. Any lions like this should be avoided, not sought after. "There's no where else to be. That's why. Do you have a better answer?"

"Well Tanana are you on your way to somewhere?" Kal asked bluntly, his tone was becoming a little impatient. Normally he would have a girl falling for him by now but this broad wouldn't budge. Her sarcastic attidue wasn't pleasing either. But Kal kept his smile.
"Are you lost?" Kal slowly inched his way closer to the female. He thought he needed to be more blunt if he wanted to to get this girl. "If you are i'd be glad to show you around." A devilish smile was burried under his fake put on. He couldn't help but go back into his normal flirtatious ways, he didn't even realize he was doing it. But he could change his nature, he was to programmed into it. He was always gonna be the self-serving, egotistical, narcissistic lion he has grown to be.

The sudden shift in subtlety (or lack there of) would not escape an observant eye; Roka had two. She watched him with a strange mix of caution and curiosity, darkly amused by his actions since the lightheartedness of the situation was starting to waver in favor of less-than-selfless intentions.
"Show me around you're den, I'm sure," she let slip. "Does this actually work with females you meet?" Much as it sounded like it, she wasn't being a smartass; she genuinely wanted to know if these tactics had any effect.
If so, she had severely over-estimated the typical intelligence of her fellow woman.

Kal laughed at her pretentious comment."Why my fair lady, I do not have a den." The truth was he never stuck in one area long enough to make a den. But why would he there were so many females and just one him. He needed to spread his love.
Kal sat and his expression grew serious yet still had an elfin type appearance. "Why yes, yes it does work; actually it has worked up until now that is." He laughed his tone sounding menacing. He knew this girl and intolerable sense began to annoy him. He didn't even bother trying to keep up appearances.
He began to circle the female his tail slowly whipping back and forth, "So, what is the reason you are out here alone?" He tried to seem more frightening. If he couldn't get what he wanted he might as well play for is entertainment.

Roka wasn't very big or very scary. Her mother was a runt with courage ten times her size, and if she passed nothing else of value down to her daughters and their lone brother, she had at least given them that. The youngest among them, Roka, would not fail to utilize her gift and in turn fail her mother. She may have observed her family as though they were a performance piece, but they were her favorite show; she was proud of them.
And with that pride and that courage she stood still and steady, watching him. To be courageous was not to be the biggest or the baddest or never be afraid -- confronting that fear made someone brave.
Roka was afraid of him, but she would be brave.
"I felt like seeing this world," she confessed. "I'm looking for my mother's kin in the process. She was a slave, you see, for a group called the Firekin. It's because of her I know there are things worse than death, and so I'm not going to be afraid of you."

Kal laughed "Why dear child, what make you think i want you to be afraid of me?" He smiled showing his unusually long and sharp fangs. "I just want to show you around but if you dont want to accept my offer then i suggest you be on your way." He stopped and sat his tail whiping back and forth against the ground. "We wouldnt want a pretty young lady like yourself to get hurt." His tone was malevolent he was tired of playing games and it was clear he wasn't going to get anywhere with her.
He was more upset then intimidating. She was the only female to ever get away well she was the only one he let get away. He would make she was the only one, he wasnt gonna let this happen again. He sat waiting to see what the female would choose. If she took to long then he would make a discision for her; and she wouldn't like his choice that was for sure.

Roka considered this a battle of wills rather than a fight between brute force. Kal would win, surely win, if they were to resort to a contest of strength. But when it came to brains...
"Alright." Roka had enough brains to go. Just not enough to stay away. "I'm going, then, but I'll find you again." She slunk past him, away from him, only to stop.
Before she left, there was one more thing.
"Tanana is my mother. My real name is Roka."

Kal snarled while he watched her walked away. She lied to him, he did not like that. He didn't like it one bit, he should hav never let her leave. And she wanted to met again, that is not going to be a pleasent reunion. He huffed at his own defeat before he set off in search of new prey to satisfy his hunger for lust. If and when they do meet again, he wont let her get away so easily. Not again, THAT was for sure.
