(PRP) At the Carnival (Karloff and Mikhail)

[Nyx Queen of Darkness]

The lights were bright, and the sounds were oddly cheerful. But this wasn't any carnival, it was Blood Moon Carnival. It's bright, cheerful nature was undercut by an air of foreboding. This place was a charade, it seemed. All this was illusion.

As he walked down the main street, he could feel a chill go down his spine. He had come here to face a part of his past, to understand this place and it's terrible curse on him. But he hadn't expected this exactly. Karloff had thought the place would be a overly gory and macabre. But this place...it was all the more creepy because of the lack of overt gruesomeness.

There were others walking around, they seemed cheerful upon entering. But you could tell the ones that had been there for awhile--they're smiles were forced and deliberate. It seemed as if they feared if they didn't keep up the ruse they wouldn't make it out. Maybe that was true...

He had to be careful. He didn't know what evil lurked here, but he needed answers.

How did I get here? Was all Mikhail thought, as he walked down the main street of what appeared to be a carnival of some sort. Perhaps he made a wrong turn out of the forest? Whatever the reason, something about this place made him feel rather uncomfortable, despite a carnival normally being a cheerful type of event.

The colt's ears seemed to remain pinned down to his head as he tried to find his way out. Maybe this place wouldn't be so creepy if the smiles of the others weren't so fake. Also, were they looking at him as if he belonged there or something? The skeletal colt shook that thought from his head and began to trot down the street. The quicker he left this place, the better he would feel. He did his best not to bump into anyone, but with the crowded streets, the chance of that was rather low.

Karloff found himself deeper and deeper into the carnivale. The eerie faces seemed more strained, and he felt some gnawing sensation in the pit of his stomach. Whatever was going on here, it seemed bad and yet...familiar.

But why familiar?

Familiar....

He could hear the screams, but they weren't in his head this time. He looked around not sure where they came from, but he was on his guard now. But even discovering that they came from the Fun House...it wasn't reassuring, his body remained tense.

Seeing another colt not far away, he noticed the wary expression on his face.

Mikhail continued to look for any sign of an exit or escape from this creepy place. His heart raced as he weaved through the patrons of the carnival, panting heavily. The screams coming from the so-called 'fun house', didn't help with his anxiety.

Continuing his search, his red eyes peered ahead. There, he spotted someone. Was that another foal?! For a brief moment, Mikhail was a bit relieved that there were others around his age in the carnival. That is, until he started getting closer. A pelt! The sight caused him to come to a halt, but skidding to a stop due to how fast he was going previously before coming to a complete stop. Just his luck, he had to stumble across a skinwalker.

Karloff saw the other foal halt before him, and for a moment he paused. But then he saw the apprehension in the foal's eyes. This boy was like him, he was looking and he was afraid. He wasn't someone he should fear then.

At least that mad sense to him. Moving forward, he spoke softly. "What are you here for?" His eyes darting back and forth to the hurrying crowds.

Mikhail almost thought that his heart would never stop beating at a mile a minute as the other foal now approached him. He was so stunned, it didn't come to him to start running in the other way. So far though, he was really lucky, the other didn't seem to be trying to attack him... yet. It was the yet, that really worried the skeleton marked colt.

At the other colt's question, he swallowed hard. It took him a bit of time to actually get the words to rise to his throat. "I-I accidentally e-entered this place. I-I'm trying to find my way out." He stammered.

"Oh," for a moment he considered. "I need out of here, but I need answers. But maybe, if we stick together...two is better than one right?"

Though still rather scared... or paranoid, Mikhail calmed a bit. It was more due to confusion, because he had always heard that skinwalkers didn't hesitate to attack others, but this foal didn't show any sign of wanting to hurt him... in fact, he wanted to stick together. Many thoughts floated through the uni's head; perhaps the viciousness didn't fully kick in until the skinwalker grew, the colt was just leading him on until he let his guard down, or he may actually not be as bad as he looked. That would be a big relief to him, especially since that was how he viewed himself... often misunderstood because of his looks. Only time will tell, but for now, he nodded in agreement of sticking together. "That is right."

Karloff nodded, still wary of the other foal, just as he was sure it was wary of him. It didn't pay to be too trusting, that would be like asking for a problem. He knew that things happened when you least suspected...creeping in during the night while you were sleeping.

He wouldn't be caught unaware like that again. Proceeding slowly forward, he kept an eye on the foal beside him. Ready for any move that shouldn't' happen.

He nosed his way over to a tent, "Do you think...maybe through here?"

When the other nodded, he waited for him to lead the way, since it seemed that the other colt had been here longer than him. He could be wrong, but he didn't want to risk getting them lost even more than they already were... if that was possible.

When the other foal moved on, he followed next to him at his side. His red eyes darted from sight to sight. He had no interest in betraying his new traveling partner, nor would he ever be. He may look like a 'monster' in his opinion, but he was rather meek and gentle. No matter how many might tell him that he should toughen up, Mikhail didn't think he ever could be mean, demanding, or even stand his ground against anyone, even if it called for it.

When the other colt walked to a tent, he looked to it for a moment. "Would an exit be inside a tent?" He asked, slightly moving closer.

Karloff mused for a moment, it was a valid question. "I don't know, maybe? But I don't see another way out, so it's worth a try isn't it?" He didn't know exactly, but something was pulling him to this place. He peeked his head in the opening, interested in seeing what was inside. Maybe there was a way out, maybe there were answers....

"I-I guess." He replied softly. As the colt peered more into the tent, he craned his neck around to try to get a peek. Slowly, he moved to the other flap and nosed it open, also peering inside. Yet again, his mind was thinking of many negative possiblities, one of them being something possibly jumping out and attacking him suddenly. He held his breath as his red eyes peeked into the interior of the tent, hopefully, for some sort of exit.

Walking in, Karloff nosed around. He couldn't smell anything, or hear anything. The area was cool, and dark. He stretched out trying to see if there was anything there. His nose touched something icy cold, and he froze. His breath caught into his throat.

When the other foal stepped into the tent, he watched nervously, hoping there was nothing bad inside. He remained outside for a bit longer before also taking his first tentative step inside. Because it being so dark inside the tent and the fact that the colt's dark fur blended in easily, he didn't noticed that the other had stopped. So, as he took another step, the end of his nose had bumped into the back of the other foal, letting out a surprised whinny. Blinking, he looked ahead, trying to spot whatever it was that caused the pause, but couldn't spot a thing. "Wh-what is it?"

Karloff jumped as the other foal ran into him. Taking a deep breath, he was able to calm his heart again. "I think...it's a mirror." He touched the coolness in front of him again.
