Winter was making itself known by the frosted blades of delicate grass and the thin sheets of ice covering tiny puddles left be recent rainfall. Maisie always loved the complex beauty of mother nature around this time of year, but she had to admit that she wasn't very fond of the bitter cold that chilled her hooves and stiffened her bones. Thankfully this winter wasn't as harsh as last years because she hand her darling son Cobb to keep her warm on nights when the breezes were bold enough to bring frost bite. However, her adopted son was all grown up now and he was lingering away from her more and more, trying to get a hold of his own life. The motherly mare knew it would have to happen one day, but she was sad that it happened so soon. Still, if ever she needed his company she knew all she had to do was call his name and he'd be by her son like the good loving family member he was.
The purple hued coat of her fur wasn't thick enough to keep her warm so she would have to huddle up most of the day in the sun. As soon as dawn arrived and the brightest star in the sky rose up above the mountains she would wander out to the open field and lay her body down. The mare plopped herself down on a tender patch of grass, finding it a suitable place to soak up some sun to warm her icy bones. Much like a lizard basking on a hot rock she began to gather the warmth generated by the sun. "Mmm, thank goodness. A few more minutes and I might have turned into an icicle," she spoke to herself with a gentle laugh. Her voice was always so soft and whimsical. She pondered what today might bring to her. Maybe she'd run into some familiar faces, or perhaps meet a few new ones. The general thought of meeting knew acquaintances sent her heart pulsing a bit quicker but it wasn't necessarily a bad feeling. More of like an excitement. Recently her fears have been proving themselves useless, because all of the supposedly scary Soquili have been rather surprisingly kind to her. She would just have to wait and see what the day held.

Winter was coming. Nosing the frost-covered grass for a moment, the stallion paused and lifted his head as a bitter breath of wind passed over yonder. It faded quickly but the chill left behind allowed him to tuck broad wings against his back, a harsh reminder he was no longer immersed in the warmth of the herd back home.
But in his few years of aimless wandering, he had never allowed the elements to push him back. Thus, he would not start now.
But... There was always a "but" that pushed in on that determined thought. One that never failed to remind him why he was wandering.
.....Curse it all.
Snorting and tossing his head as though to toss away the wayward ideas, the black stallion moved onwards as the sun allowed her light to wash across the land; none too soon did her light warm his cold bones. Wings spreading slightly to catch the weak rays upon ruby-shadowed feathers, he sighed in bliss and shook out his mane. "Such joys to be found in the simplest of things, especially when the land slumbers." His voice had deepened to a rich tone, but spoke with none of the authority one of his blood may have expected. So soft it was, it barely rustled the grass as he reached down to graze.

It seemed that the meek warmth of the feeble rays of sunshine were starting to breathe life into the land. Maisie allowed her bright yellow orbs to dance about as they flicked from one awakening creature to the next. A squirrel here, a deer there. It seemed like every species was coming out to catch the sun. Even a massive stallion, painted black with stunning accents of ruby red. Wait, what?!
Maisie narrowed her eyes in on the male that was seemingly unaware of her presence. Not that he should have noticed her since her coloration wasn't painfully eye raping. Her body trembled slightly, but she attempted to tell herself it was all because of the cold soaking in through her pelt.
A while ago she had met one who looked similar to him, but not exactly the same. Maion was a gentle Angeni who had managed to startle her so badly that she plummeted off the side of a cliff. If it hadn't of been for the lower ledge she probably would have drown to death in the oceans violent waves. Luckily, however, Maion had kindly healed her with his unicorn magic and brought her up to safety with his majestic skills of aerobatics.
A lesson was learned there that she should never run from strangers until presented with a threat. She continued to make interested stares towards the male, wondering if he would ever notice her. Since she was curious she decided to be a bit straight forward just this once and step out of her bubble. She lifted her fragile figure off of the grass, observing how she had melted away the light white tint of frost. She slowly wandered over to the stallion, a bit of hesitation in her step.
"Hello there," she finally spoke in a soft, timid voice once she had gotten close enough for him to hear her. She was a few yards off still though, making sure she'd get a good head start if he was a vicious sort of Soquili. Well, now that she had greeted him, what was next? She really should think about these things before she made her actions.

So aborbed in his thoughts he was, it was only natural the stallion did not notice the company he shared until a soft voice broke the silence around them.
Almost pulling a muscle in his neck at how fast his head came up, Raiden stared at what looked like a winter nymph at first glance with wide eyes before a small amount of calm pushed away the surprise. He had been to this glade many, many times before in all seasons...
But never had he seen one such as her before... What were her people called...Cerynei? If memories of the stories his family told served memory correctly.
Thats when he realized he had been staring like a foal. With a snort, he quickly straightened up and re-folded his wings against his back. Only then did he cautiously approach the other with soft steps on the frosted blades of grass.
"H...Hello there? I...Um...I apologize for not seeing you earlier." A weak laugh. "I was...uh...um...I was...Thinking?"
Inwardly, he cursed at himself for being tight-lipped and tounge-tied. And for his brother to have gotten all the charisma in the family. Right now, he could use some.

The speed in which he turned his head to stare at her was alarming. She flattened her ears flat against her skull at first and probably ducked her head down a little, as if to seem less of a threat to the stallion. He was really quite a sight to behold. His dark pelt skimmed with white markings that stood out ridiculously well. Not to mention the streaks and highlights of ruby reds in all the right places. Still, she kept her guard up, not wanting to fall into traps like so was so prone to.
He was just staring. Staring with those flaming red eyes that seemed to burn like embers in his skull. It was sort of luring, but in a frightening way. Where were the whites of his eyes? Did he have any? That wasn't the important thing to think about right now, though. What was was the reason why he was just staring. Did she disrupt him in an important train of thought, or maybe he just wasn't the friendly type. She lifted her hoof to take a step back right when he spoke. Finally.
Apologies? Was he really apologizing for such a silly thing as not noticing her? She figured it was normal for others not to notice her. She did her best to stay out of others lines of sight anyway. However, today she felt different. Today she felt like getting out there and doing something. She didn't know the reason for it but it felt good none the less. "What's there to apologize for. I didn't expect you to acknowledge little me. Though, that is very kind of you to say your sorry for such a silly thing."
Her eyes dropped down and scanned him slowly from the hooves up. He was a much larger Soquili that herself. Not quite the largest she had seen but definitely not the smallest. "If you don't mind... what was it that you were thinking about?" She asked in her usual soft voice. Letting her tone carry on the dainty breeze like a drifting melody. She didn't mean to pry but what else could she say? At last minute she figured an introduction would have been more suitable. "O-oh, um... I'm Maisie by the way... though you can call me whatever you please..." She kept her head lowered slightly as respect.
