Shalar had come to visit Denika Lynn again, it had been almost a week since he had departed her side yet he found himself still curious about the creature so full of laughter and peace that he was shocked at himself. No one had ever effected him so before.
Smiling he carried a special parcel, wrapped in a leaf and held together with a vine that he was currently carrying in his mouth. It was a gift of her faviourite foods - apples and sweet grass. Shalar had asked his sister Nienna to go to food picking with him, it was something they used to do as children, and he had missed spending time with her so it had been a nice excuse.... that said, he hadn't been foolish enough to tell Nienna what exactly what he wanted the food for. He had never hunted for sweetgrass before, yet after tasting some he understood why Denika liked it so much. Carrots where still his faviourite but he did enjoy sweet foods as a treat.
Finally reaching the hill they had agreed to meet on he called out, "Denika? Denika are you here?" He looked around, he could see the lake near the bottom of the hill and a forest surround the other two sides. Denika could be hiding anywhere and he probably wouldn't notice until she revealed herself.
Patiently Shalar waited, he lowered himself to the ground, placing his gift carefully beside him.

Kimi was out hunting, her belly was groaning and desperate for.... something, anything! Once again she appeared to be having little luck hunting, she was getting so desperate that she was even willing to contemplate the idea of going after a stallion.
Kimi had never really liked stallions, larger and stronger due to genetics Kimi prefered the thrill of the chase and the squeals that usually came with mares and foals, and of course her faviourite -pregnant mares. She licked her lips at the very idea of such a thing. Delicious and plump it had been so long since she had managed to secure such a prey. She was growing lazy and slack.... perhaps it was time she found her sister and started to hunt as a pair again? They always had so much more luck that way.
In bird form Kimi swooped and dived through the trees, the exhileration of it all was amazing, she liked the thrill of the wind ruffling her feathers and the freshness of the air. Hunting was much the same.... except it involved the smell of blood, delicious and exotic blood. It was enough to make her drool. She clucked her beak, a sign of hunger and joy at the same time. Thinking about blood and the kill was always enough to put Kimi in the mood.
She just wondered..... who was on the menu today?

When Denika heard Shalar's voice, her ears instantly perked and she left her position by the lake to bound up the hill towards him. She had been watching the gentle fish swim in the shallows around the lake shore, but her friend was far more important than that.
"Shalar! Hi!" She was as cheery as ever, and a smile adorned her face as usual. "It's so nice to see you again." She bounced around him, playfully nudging his large wings and nipping gently at his voluminous tail. She was so young at heart, and acted like a foal half the time, and now was now exception.
The Angeni mare came to a stop in front of him, and beamed wider up at him. Without hesitation, she reached out to nuzzle his cheek with her pink nose. "How're you doing? Good I hope! You better be doing good." She barely stopped to give him time to answer, prancing from hoof to hoof, obviously pleased to see him. She'd thought of him often since they last time they had spent time together, and it was great to have him near again. Unaware, she nearly stepped on the gift he had brought for her in her excitement.

Seeing Denika race towards him made Shalar's heart nearly stop beating in his chest. She was so beautiful and radiant, full of goodness and light -probably the complete opposite to him. Yet he continued to find himself compelled to find her, to just spend time surrounded by her laughter and joy for life.
Perhaps... Shalar was addicted to her? This natural beauty who seemed to take each day as it arrived. Yet, that thought didn't distress Shalar, what distressed him was the fact that she was his opposite. He was darkness personified, his own mind threatening to lash out and destroy those around him with its need for blood and vengence.
As her bombardment of questions reached his ears Shalar found all other thoughts replaced with his own laughter mingling with hers. Denika didn't seem to really want him to answer, all her words flowing so swiftly from her lips that he wondered if she would ever let him get a word in sideways? Of course, it would not be the end of the world -Shalar was usually a man of very few words, of course Shalar was also a man who usually kept to himself... not go off looking for the company of another. Yet today, today he had....!
She skipped around him, and if it had not been for his reflexes and a quick knock with his hoof her gift would have been squished in all the excitment. Finally he saw an opening to speak and took advantage of it. "I have been well Denika, how have you been? Wonderful I hope?" Anything less than wonderful would be an insult for such a happy mare.
Reaching for her gift he picked it up in his mouth by the vine, moving it with his tongue so it was at the side of his mouth so he could attempt to talk. It wasn't particularly easy, and as far as Shalar was concerned it was rude to talk with your mouthful, but for some reason he felt it was the only way to bring her attention to it in her excitement. Slightly mumbled he said, "I have a gift for you."

Kimi had found no one so far, the thick trees of the forest doing too good a of hiding her would-be-prey. She clucked her tongue against her beak as he large wings flapped.
In animal form Kimi was very large, much larger than the natural bird she mimicked was. She was often confused and called an eagle when in fact she was more of a hawk. He colouring was white once, now stained in blood... a reminder of her curse, her need. Yet the colour did not offend Kimi as it did many others, no, she loved blood.... wanted to bath it in every hour of every day.
Her eyes scanned and scanned again. She would find something soon.... of that she was sure.
The end of the forest was in sight now, the trees thining until she could see no more exsisted. She perched herself on the last tree of the forest -an Oak tree. Large leaves and canopy easily concealing her form as she watched two soquili play and frolic in the sun.
They would never see her coming.

She was so excited to see him, it was plain as day to see. She continued to prance around him, ruffling her wings excitement coursing through her electric.
"I have been fantastic, Shalar! And I'm even better now!" She grinned at him wide, taking the opportunity to bop him playfully with her nose and her wings again. "I'm so glad to see you, I can't even begin to tell you how much!" Shalar was so nice to her, and so much fun. She enjoyed his company so much. He always made her smile.
In her excitement and prancing, she almost didn't notice him pick up the small package, and it was only when his words became mumbled that she seemed to really notice, turning quickly to look at him.
"A gift?" Her ears perked and her eyes lit up. "You brought me a gift? Shalar! You didn't have to do that!" she exclaimed happily.
She had no idea that there was such danger anywhere close.

Wrapped up in his little bubble of Denika, Shalar had let his guard down, his sences fully aware of her presence and her presence alone. It was a lesson Shalar would soon be forced to learn..... danger lurked even when you didn't expect or want it.
Still, in that moment all he could see was a happy prancing Denika, a rainbow of happiness and joy. His smile was small but genuine as he watched her. "I am glad you have been well," he said with his mumbled voice.
As she spotted the gift he placed it on the ground before her and nodded towards it in acknowledgment that he had bought it for her. "I wanted to Denika, it was little trouble." He said with a smile much freer now that he wasn't holding on to the vine that wrapped her gift. "I just hope you like it," he said sincerly as he tugged on the opposite end of the vine he had been holding forcing the knot free to reveal the delicious content. Apples and sweet grass, he had committed her faviourite foods to memory after their last meeting and only hoped that he had remembered correctly, he was 97% sure he had.
He knew that his sister, Nienna, would probably have a fit if she saw him now. Both Nienna and Lilybane where always bugging him about actually going out and making a friend every once and a while... how right they had been.

Kimi watched, her eyes darting between the two females -at least they looked very femine to her, long hair, roses, delicate features.
She started to form a plan, the one with the four large wings would be easier to distract she felt, the way the mare was dancing so full of joy and laughter made Kimi's stomach roll and she wasn't entirely sure she could stomach eating her, that said perhaps it would be more fun to watch that happiness turn to utter fear as Kimi stole her life.
Bloodlust was starting to bubble and roar within him, she wanted to take her fill now but patience was needed.
Patience and plotting.
Two things that Kimi was very practised in.
