"The circle is carved into the floor." Zak said as he limped down the stairs, leaning heavily on the cane he now carried. "So we don't need to worry about that..." He grunted as he leaned the carved staff against the wall, leaning down to roll back the heavy carpet. Usually, he would have just used magic to move it, but Kali had forbidden him from using it. It was strange that an apprentice would forbid a master, but there had been something in her eye that hinted he should listen. So, scowling, he tossed the rug aside and dropped into an armchair.
They were in his study; a large, circular room decorated with gold leaf and dark wood, on the top floor of his mansion. The ceiling was almost entirely composed of windows, an enchanted glass dome as hard as steel. The curtains were drawn over the windows now, though, so the room was eerily lit by the few lanterns his constructs had gotten to. They scurried around the room, green eyed and dark skinned, flicking on light switches and stoking the fire. One pushed a footstool to Zak, and he propped his feet up on it, watching Nigel.
The vial in question sat in a pouch in his pocket, desperately reaching out to...someone. They weren't sure who, yet, but they were about to find out.
Looking down at the intricate mosaic on his floor, he ran his cane along one of the carved lines that really made up the magic circle. "It'll use you as a battery. You just have to stand in the right spot." He said to Nigel, as if he didn't already know. "Be ready when they appear. They may be hostile. But I'm sure you can handle it." He smiled, though it wasn't reassuring. He looked as if he was looking forward to some 'fun'.

Devlin had been watching what he called the magic box--his cousin told him it was called a television; certainly, Vate hadn't seen the wonder that was the box. The pictures inside it moved, and spoke! Did little people live inside it? Was it... real? His fascination was short lived. He felt a tug at his person, as if--as if--
He wasn't in his three room apartment anymore. The television was gone. His chair was gone; even the ugly biege walls he'd planned on painting were gone. Blue eyes studied his surroundings, settling on Nigel. "How did you get here?" he asked, tilting his head just slightly so his curly hair fell into his eyes and to the side. "I thought the door was--" he hesitated and took another look around. "Where am I?" he asked. "This isn't my house."

Nigel took a quick look around as he entered the study with Zak, turning his attention to the circle as his partner uncovered it. There was a damn good reason that Zak was currently forbidden from using magic, whether the blond mage wanted to admit it or not. It was during his observation that the redheaded magic user had decided that Zak's constructs were ******** creepy - then again, that wasn't entirely a huge surprise for some reason. Zak seemed to go for the dark a creepy stuff, so it would seem. "Yeah, I know - we discussed this before coming in here, remember?" Nigel moved into position, waiting for Zak to activate the spell.
It didn't take long for the spell's effects to take place. Moments later, a figure appeared in the room in response to summoning - an elf, Nigel noticed, when he finally got a good look at the young man. The redheaded mage chuckled at the stranger's response to his new surroundings and shook his head a little. "No, you're not in your house - you're in a study." Well, at least he didn't seem hostile thus far. The blue-eyed mage didn't really WANT to get in a scuffle today. "We summoned you here to give you something." And Devlin didn't have a choice when it came to accepting this 'gift' - he was getting the vial whether he liked it or not. Neither he nor Zak wanted them around for longer than they had to be.

Devlin stared at Nigel, clearly perplexed. "How did I get here?" he asked curiously. "Oh, summoned? How did you do that?" The naturally curious elf was practically bursting with questions. "Give me something? Like a present?" Now he really was interested. He had heard about the human tradition of giving presents. "But I didn't bring you one," he added, rather ruefully, wondering what he might be able to give Nigel in return.
"Thank you anyway," he added with a smile. It was so nice of them, to summon him just to give him a present. "Where is it?"

"Over here." Zak said, lifting the small bag which held the vial up so Devlin could see. "Why don't you catch? I don't much feel like getting up." He yawned, before pitching the bag, and the vial, across the room. As it left his fingers, it occurred to him that if Devlin missed it, he wasn't allowed to use magic to keep it from smashing against the floor.
Oh well. It really wasn't his problem. He didn't think that they should spread the implings across Gaia anyways. If it smashed, it was one less thing on his conscience. He could deal with an accident like this, after all, much better than the wholesale destruction of a world.
Of coursd, they did seem quite docile. Neither Shade nor Faust had hurt anyone, with the exception of Nigel's ankle, though Zak forgave that simply due to the fact that it had been funny. Not hearing him whine for days afterward about how the new batch of creatures were a load of evil monsters, but the fact that something had bitten Nigel in the ankle.

With elven speed, Devlin caught the vial with the utmost care. He stared at Zak with complete and undisguised graditude. "Thank you," he said. "What is it? Does it do anything?" he asked as he studied the vial. A nice teal color. He liked that. "It's pretty," he added. He briefly wondered what would happen if he shook it.
"What is it?" he asked again. "Magic? Something edible? A toy?" He had heard all about the things humans gave to each other. It certainly wasn't a book, nor was it clothing.
"You could have broke it," the elf said, shaking a finger at Zak. "Don't you realize how important presents are to your culture?"

"Uh...no. It's not edible." Nigel found himself equating the way that Devlin was acting to that of the reaction of a small child - talking more than listening, and asking a s**t-load of questions. "And you'll find out when it reacts later." For now, it seemed as though the child was still dormant - strange, since Shade and Faust had reacted almost immediately. Perhaps some of them would take more time though. They'd never really done any sort of study to see how quickly the infants emerged from their vials.
"I would suggest that you get some baby stuff ready though - you're going to need it." Unless Devlin already had some, but Nigel somehow doubted that - he didn't seem like the type who would already have children. The redheaded mage glanced over to Zak and raised an eyebrow. Should they explain exactly what would happen? Or leave the elf to find out on his own?

"Baby stuff?" The elf echoed, staring at the vial. "But it's not a--" he went slightly pale. "I can't handle a--" he hesitated. "Babies come out of these?" he asked finally. "How? Why? Why are you giving it to me? I've never taken care of a baby before." Well, unless you counted shadowsitting; but they weren't quite babies.
At least, he didn't think they were.
Holding the vial with more care than he had at first, Devlin studied Nigel. "When will the baby come out?" he asked.

Well, Zak was always a fan of screwing people over. So, when Devlin began to stammer helplessly, he smiled. Leaning back in his chair, he pressed his fingers together, and smiled.
"Babies? Why, Devlin. Babies come from women. You know the story. When a mommy and a daddy love each other very much..." He waved his hand, twirling it in a circle and looking across the room at one of the windows. "But you should probably go shopping. Don't contact us again. We'll contact you. Really. Don't come to my door. Ever." He waved his hand, moving to send him back to wherever he had come from... When he remembered he wasn't allowed.
"G-N-AGH." He yelled incoherently, making strangling motions at no one in particular. "For the love of- Nigel! BANISH him." As if he wasn't allowed. This was obscene. He was a MASTER. How was he NOT allowed?! Slumping down in his chair, he scowled, stared at the floor, and sulked. His fun was completely ruined now.
"We're giving you a vial. Because it wants you. So take it, shut up, and NIGEL WOULD YOU HURRY UP?!" Aw, he was getting cranky.

Well, the elf's reaction was one that you would expect to get from someone who'd just basically been told that they were going have a baby pop out of a vial. Actually, they were lucky that Devlin wasn't reacting violently - in his opinion, anyway. Zak was probably disappointed by the lack of angry protests.
His partner made up for this by reacting like an a** however. No big surprise there. This seemed to come back and bite Zak in the face though as the blond mage suddenly realized that he wasn't allowed to banish Devlin back to his home - magic was required for that, and Nigel was the only one present who was allowed to actually use the art. The redheaded mage snickered at Zak's frustration and shook his head, already summoning forth the magic that he'd need to send Devlin back to his home. Oh, how fun it was to see Zak so pissed off. "Good luck with it." was the last thing that he said to Devlin before unleashing the spell. The energy swirled around the elf, forming a cocoon of light around him. After a moment, the light began to fade, seeping back into the ground.
Then, the elf was gone. "One down, and countless more to go."
