A log of a team RP starring Opheliac and Clarence! Now with 100% LESS crazy mini! Aurrific "Damn it, Anklebiter, that's the third critter you been harassin' this week!" Clarence stood on his hind legs, his forepaws a kimbo as he glowered at the red, black, and white miniature. His sharp, blue eyes were narrowed in frustration as he watched his much smaller charge poke and prod gleefully at a curled hedgehog. "Pshaa, fer a demonic, you ain't fun at all." Anklebiter cackled gleefully as he continued with his little game. "Make it stooooooooooooop!" The spiny creature squeaked with dismay, though his words were muffled by his belly fur. He wasn't about to unroll from his protective little ball, for fear of losing an eye or worse. "I-I-I-I gotta secret, a treasure, I'll tell you if you call it offfff!" "Y'ear that?" The mini dropped his stick and sniffed curiously at the target. "Yeah, I did, AB, an' I'm thinkin' you oughtta get back t'the den." Scaramouche Fandango As Opheliac trotted back towards her den, she was beginning to wonder why she didn't take the minis with her more often. Today's hunting trip had been so boring without them. Sure, they could cause trouble, but at least they were fun. And a day without fun was a day completely wasted. As she ran along, a noise caught her ears. Yelling was happening, and she heard the word treasure. It was interesting enough to make her head towards the voices as stealthily as she could. If it was somebody unfriendly, she didn't want them seeing her. Quietly, she tiptoed towards the noise, using her wings to steady herself. She wanted to know what was going on! Aurrific "But I dowannaaaaaa!" "Too bad, y'do et else you gotta catch yer own fish for dinner t'night, and with your size it's more like the fish'll eat ya up." "Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine." Dejectedly, Anklebiter trudged off towards the river, to follow it home. That didn't stop him from whining the entire trip, however. The prickly beast waited until the smaller otter was out of earshot, before unrolling. Clutched in his tiny paws was an unusual piece of garbage, something Clarence recognized from snooping about at the ranger station. Something humans used to wipe their lips after eating. It smelled interesting enough, that much the brown otter could tell. "Well, I got 'em t'leave, now 'bout this treasure you was tellin' me about, where can I get et?" "Yeahyeahyeah, gimme a second, would you?" The hedgehog unfurled the crumbled, greasy napkin and went about, dutifully sketching what appeared to be a map with a paw full of dirt. "You gotta follow this, will take ya to a cave what's got some tasty man-food in it. I couldn't reach it, you see? Now if you'll excuse meeeeeeeee." He dropped the napkin and dirt clod, then scuttled as quickly as he could into the underbrush. Scaramouche Fandango As Ophie neared the voices, she heard familiar words. Man food. That was always a good word. Cave. Not as good of a word, but still interesting, to say the least. And one of those voices sounded very familiar... As she got closer, she nearly tripped on a scuttling hedgehog. He squeaked indignantly at her, and it was a familiar squeak- she'd just heard it! But that wasn't the familiar voice... Crouching low to the ground, she peeked out into a clearing where a large brown otter was looking at something on the ground. Although she could only see his back, she'd recognize it anywhere. After all, she'd recently had to undergo hearing everything about him. Yes, this was somebody she knew! He must have been one of the two voices she'd heard- he'd gotten the secret of this hedgehog's treasure. Or something. Either way, when he was around, he made things, well, not-boring. Pulling herself into the clearing, she chirped a greeting. "Hello, Clarence! Whatcha got?" Aurrific "Ohgod!" He about-faced almost instantly, turning his back to the napkin-map to the man food. It was her! That crazy, winged otter that nearly set him on fire recently. Not-good, not-good, not-good. Then again, the crazier mini wasn't around, which was a blessing, certainly. Regardless, they both weren't quite right in the head. It also appeared that he would have a guest for some time, because from what little experience he had with her, he could only assume she wouldn't be easy to shake. "Uhm, something. A map, looks like, why come, hmmm?" And it just dawned on him, he didn't even know her name. Scaramouche Fandango "I heard you and somebody else talking about treasure!" Ophie grinned wildly at the male- she'd startled him, gotten the upper hand. "Today's been boring for me. And I'm never one to turn down a good treasure hunt! Oh let's do go look for it! I promise that Cuddles won't be following- she's back at my den. Doesn't even know where I am. It'll be such fun, and besides, I heard the hedgehog mention human food. That's always delicious and in such great quantities... and I've already eaten, so you can have most of it. Really, it's the thrill of the chase, dont'cha know." The wild grin turned to a wheedling one as she let a bit of a simper creep into her voice. The angelic female could be very persuasive when she needed to be. "So what do you say? Shall we show the reserve's pirates that they're not the only treasure hunters about?"

Aurrific "W-w-welllllll, I s'ppose so, 'cos I am kinda hungry an' AB ain't eaten yet, either. An' if we can show them pirates up, that'd be mighty worth it." Despite his smile and nod, a pang of dread traced down his spine. Traveling with her didn't sound like the easiest of tasks, that was for certain. Oh, hopefully the stars didn't have it out for him and he'd come back with all of his limbs intact. "Y'know, Cuddles told ya all 'bout me an' I'm afraid I don't even know yer name, miss." Scaramouche Fandango "Oh, how embarassing! Where are my manners? Of course you don't know my name. I'm Opheliac- most call me Ophie, though. It's shorter." The fuchsia otter dipped her head in belated greeting. "And now that you know who I am, let's go find the treasure!" She screwed her head around, hoping to get a good look at the map. "Did the hedgehog say how near here this treasure is?" Aurrific "Ophie, s'easy 'nough to remember, methinks. A pleasure t'meet ya official-like this time." Hopefully the circumstances would be more normal this time. He smoothed the dirt smeared map slightly and showed it off to her, to let her take a gander. "I didn't quite get that much from 'im, but I'm thinkin' it can't be that far, 'cos 'e's a short little bugger. Looks like the first mark's a funny bent tree, or summat, hm?" Scaramouche Fandango She stared at the map, wrinkling her nose. "Yeah, and then this second mark- I think that's the big flat rock to the east. D'you suppose there's a sinkhole around there or something? This last mark looks like a cave..." She cocked her head. "I think we oughta head in that direction, eh, Clarence?" Aurrific "Cou'd be, though I ain't sure. Haven't quite gone that far on the reserve, m'self. But ya got that right, we won't get nowhere if we just sit 'ere and twiddle our claws, eh?" He nodded in confirmation and carefully gathered up the impromptu map in his paws. "Right we are, to th'tree!" Scaramouche Fandango Ophie giggled a bit as she got back to her feet. "Rightoh!" The demonic had a rather pleasant way of talking- rough around the edges, but comfortable. The day was pleasant, and she knew that this would be an adventurous afternoon. The tree wasn't far off, but a bit of chitchat wouldn't hurt. "So, what're you doing this far out, Clarence? Hunting? That's what I was doing." It'd be nice to know if this was somebody else's hunting grounds, even if it was somebody she was on friendly terms with. She wouldn't want to infringe upon anybody's turf. Aurrific "Well, sorta, sorta not, if ya get me. I was lookin' for some nice fishin spots, when I noticed my mini-friend had done run off.I came a bit farther up river'n usual lookin' for him. Looks like some good huntin' in this area, eh?" He padded along, feeling well, rather, normal. So far there had been no strange obsessions or random fires, so perhaps all wold go well. The tree was just up ahead, he could easily recognized the abnormally tilted growth. Scaramouche Fandango "Yeah, it's not terrible. Lotsa berry bushes for snacks, and there's a salmon run not too far away. In the spawning season, a lot of stragglers end up down by this bend, and they're the easiest things in the world to pick off. And they're usually pretty delicious. It's not a place I usually take the little 'uns, though- the current moves pretty quick, and, if you haven't noticed, some of them do pretty stupid things. So they stay home when I come up here. But yours seems a bit better behaved than mine, though- I swear, something's wrong with the three of them. Is this the tree?" She stared up at it. "My, how'd it grow like that, d'you suppose," she murmured. She was only vaguely familiar with the land in this area, for while she knew the river well, she'd usually just swim her kills back downstream. "If this is the right tree, I do think I can find that rock from here." Aurrific "Mm, salmon, sounds like it'd hit the spot. I gotta agree with ya, though, all three of 'em seem a bit off 'n cracked in the 'ead. Mayhap it's a mini thing, y'think?" He shook his head and chuckled lightly as he gazed up at the tree. "I ain't gotta clue, t'be honest wi'd ya. But I'm pretty sure et's the right one. Y'think y'can get us the right way, then? I'm right behind ya, if that's the case." Scaramouche Fandango "Perhaps it is; the most normal one I've ever met is a stuck-up priss my father adopted after I moved out on my own. Even though we've both got wings and halos, he's completely insufferable. I think their problem is that they've got a big personality cramped down into a little container- things get, well, squished up. But they seem to be pretty happy most of the time, even if they are, oh, shall we say, destructive little terrorfiends." She smiled happily, thinking of her three at home. They were horrible, yes, but they were her little monsters. "I'll apologize in advance if we get lost, but I'm pretty sure I can find that big rock. It'll be the sinkhole that's the problem- but we'll get to that when we get there. For now, follow me!" she chirped, happy that he seemed to have confidence in her. Trust was good! Trust led to friendship!

Aurrific "Well, that cou'd be, I'm guessin' 'cos y'know I was a right lil' terror when I was a mini." He bobbed his head, agreeing with her sentiments concerning miniature otters in general. While he wasn't so worried about getting lost, her mention of a sinkhole had him a bit worried. "Followin' just 'elp me keep an eye out for that there sink'ole ya mentioned, an' we'll be right as rain." Scaramouche Fandango "You were a mini once? I didn't know they could grow large... that's amazing!" she said with a bit of awe in her voice. "Though I suppose a lot of strange things happen around here. Sometimes it seems that there are no normal otters about..." She was quiet for a little bit, musing about reserve life in general. "I wonder if this place actually has borders. I've never come across a fence... there's always so much to explore. When I was little, I thought my dad and I had covered it all. Then I grew up and realized we'd explored next to nothing. I've spent a lot of time just walking around and looking for things. Like the sinkhole... It should be around here somewher-OOF!" she squealed as her foot sank into the mire. "Oh hey, I think I've found it!" Aurrific "Yup, way back when. I met this odd big ol' critter, a witch, what gave me a potion. Made me what I am t'day, see?" He grinned broadly and thumped his proud, puffed out chest with a clawed paw. "I didn't even know it was possible til then, but I'm sure glad it was, if ya get me." He grew quiet, listening as she spoke of how large the reserve is. Truth be told, he hadn't explored that much of it. When he had been a mini, he tended to stick to the same old places, trying to avoid, well, getting eaten. Since the growth potion, he had been slowly branching out in all directions, but hadn't covered much ground. "It is pretty darn big and I ain't seen much... Oi, back up a bit so y'don' get stuck." Scaramouche Fandango Ophie followed his instructions, wriggling and flapping her wings to free herself. "Well, I guess that just means we're getting close! What's the map say now?" she said, prancing back to Clarence's side to try and read it. This was so much fun! Aurrific "Well, we got th' tree 'n the sinkhole what was near the rock? After that's north'n east t' the thing what looks like a cave. I'm thinkin' we oughta keep on heading in that there direction. if this map is anythin' accurate, we oughta be pretty damn close." He gingerly unfolded the impromptu, napkin map and held it out far enough so that his new, winged friend to get a good look. Scaramouche Fandango Eagerly, she shook her head. "Yeah, yeah! Let's head that way." She smiled, sharp teeth showing. She could be a little... intense when she got enthusiastic about something. "I wonder what it could be..." Aurrific "Hopefully somethin' worth all the hastle, maybe somethin' really, really tasty!" Oh, how he hoped so. Come to think of it, he was pretty damn hungry. At least it didn't look as though they had far to go! Her own enthusiasm was almost a little unnerving, but at least she was an Angelic otter, right? They were usually pretty, well, angelic. He distinctly remembered getting his fur singed not that long ago. He plodded along, head high, in the direction that the map seemed to indicate, holding the napkin carefully between two claws. Scaramouche Fandango "Mm, I hope it's fried food that humans dropped! Fried food is delicious!" They continued along until they found a cave. "I think this is it! Let's go inside!" She led the way, barreling past him. She figured that if the floor dropped suddenly, she could throw out her wings and catch herself before she fell, whereas Clarence, who had no wings, might get hurt. The cave, however, was really quite small. She nearly hit her nose on the back wall. She could see what was clearly the treasure, stuck under some rocks. A paper bag with a large golden sign on the top was sticking out from a pile of rocks. "Clarence! C'mere, I think I found it!" She attempted to free the bag, but to no avail. "I think we're gonna have to work together to get it out of here!" Aurrific He was quick behind her, not expecting just how small the cave was. He nearly walked right into the Angelic otter, but managed to catch himself just beforehand. He examined the rocks, which held the interesting bag captive. He had seen trash before, but this trash had something in it! Obviously people food! He was eager to get inside of it, to see what it held. "Yup, yer right 'bout that, we gotta do somethin... What about sticks? Wedge sticks on either side t'get the rocks out the way?" Scaramouche Fandango "That should work! Or perhaps... there's some bits of stone on the floor here. What if we rolled back the rocks, jammed the stones beneath them, and then kept jamming stones to ratchet them up? I'm a little worried that sticks might break- these rocks are really heavy." She fretted a bit as she looked at the bag. If there was food in there, it was getting cold! Aurrific "Well, that'll prolly work! I'm starved, so what we waitin' on?" He smirked as he began gathering up the smaller stones. Hopefully this didn't take long, because he didn't think he could hold his growling stomach at bay any longer. Scaramouche Fandango As he gathered the stones, Opheliac pushed against the rocks. Her eagerness was making her stomach rumble. It seemed to take an eternity to get the rocks up high enough to get the bag out, but finally, they were successful. She quickly whisked the bag out from under the rocks, nearly hopping in anticipation. "You open it! It's your map!" Aurrific The work was longer and harder than he expected, but they had done it! Opheliac grabbed it and passed it on to him. He couldn't help but share her enthusiasm and cracked a broad grin. "Y'know what, why don' we open it t'gether? I was just in the right place at the right time, but we got all this done together." He pushed the bag between them and motioned for her to take a look. "One... Two... Three!" Whatever it was, it didn't smell good. Definitely not like fresh, fried food. Scaramouche Fandango What spilled out of the bag was not french fries, fried chicken, or anything that might have once been a cow. What spilled out was white, plasticky, and an unholy hybrid of utensils. "SPORKS?" Ophie cried in dismay. "You can't eat a spork! You can only eat WITH one! This must have been their trash bag!" The disappointment was evident on her face. "You got totally ripped off by that map!" Aurrific He groaned a little more loudly than he planned to. There was hardly anything there that was worth it! Just plastic! Damn, all that work and they got sporks. "Well... At least we c'n use it for something, right? Last time I ever trust a 'edgepig." He grumbled as he picked up one of the sporks and flexed it with his paws. "Eh, I guess you an' I share, 'alf an' 'alf, maybe the minis would like t'use 'em or somethin." Aurrific "Y'know, perch sounds delicious." He offered her a grin, deciding rather quickly that he had enough time to spare. Besides, he was hungry! Ankle Biter would be fine on his own for a little bit longer. Maybe, if he asked nicely, Ophie would let him bring a little back to his mini-friend. "I'd like that, I'd like that a lot. Adventurin' so does work up an appetite. Thanks fer offerin!" He chattered on cheerily as he gathered up the sporks and followed Ophie back to her den.
