It have been a couple of days since he'd met Coralie, and Morton was still slightly peeved for several reasons. The most prominent of them, amusingly enough, being that he felt he'd lost the opportunity to make a good friend. Still, there was very little he could do about it, seeing as how he was not about ready to take the first step, stubbornly having decided that he'd been entirely entitled to his small outburst.

It didn't make the situation any less annoying however, and in an attempt to sway his emotions into a brighter, less infuriating spectrum, he'd gone out. There, he'd found perch on a random, flat rock on campus, allowing the sun to warm him, and granted, it had been working until a vaguely familar scent reached his nostrils. The gargoyle's eyes (which had previously been closed as he dosed away), opened briefly to see none other than the object of his mild irritation slowly approaching.

A small growl rumbled through him briefly, indicating he had, in fact, spotted her, but he soon enough decided to simply close his eyes and ignore her. Who knows? Maybe she'd go away and leave him alone.

Yes, he was childish like that.

Coralie was on her way back to her dorm after a...interesting eating experience in the cafeteria. Honestly, the taste wouldn't leave her mouth and she wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. She had concluded it was weird in a completely neutral sense. It had, however, left her a little distracted as she walked across campus. She had been on semi-auto pilot, so she hadn't spotted Morton until she was rather close. To be fair, he was gray and the rock was gray, so hey, slight camouflage going on? Okay not really.

Although their parting had been less than ideal, Coralie didn't feel any awkwardness in approaching him. She didn't feel any lingering discomfort and frustration, either, probably because she had already decided looking back on the encounter that it had been silly and all together amusing now, in hind sight, if not then. So she sat down on the rock a little behind him to the side, propping herself against one hand and outstretched arm as she sat.

After a minute or two of him, well, just sitting there, she blew a few of her bangs out of her face and reached out with her free hand. "You really are a gargoyle aren't you?" It was meant to be a reference to his stillness, as she wasn't sure she'd seen anyone do it quite so naturally. With her hand she curled her fingers just behind his ear and under his horn and gave him a few scratches in hopes of prompting movement.

He was trying to will her, silently, to go away, and much of his concentration was thus placed on repeating his mental mantra, almost as if it were a curse or a spell of some kind which he directed at the reaper. As such, he was pretty surprised when instead of vanishing, the girl approached and then proceeded to sit on his boulder (His, damnit! HIS! He'd found it and had been enjoying his time quite nicely before she'd interrupted!).

Alas, Morton had decided that turning and growling at her would simply not do, after all, he had been trying so very hard to as if she weren't there that... it almost felt like blasphemy to drop the act. When the girl sat down beside him, he remain still, focusing his thoughts on how the sun felt on his bones rather than on the fact that she was right there, which meant his mental mantra had failed - he was going to have to work on that.

So focused was he on ignoring her, that when her hand touched him, it startled him quite visibly; his body stiffened and his eyes snapped open. For the briefest of moments, it looked like he was going to jump up and away from her, or perhaps even adopt the same defensive, almost cat like pose that he'd taken upon meeting her, but no. The moment passed, and instead of jumping up into a hissy fit, the gargoyle relaxed back down into his previously languid pose, his eyes hooding as he felt her scratch behind his ear, "Mmmm..." okay, that hadn't been what he'd been wanting to say... let's try this again, he thought to himself. Amusingly enough, the boy didn't look at all embarrassed over the fact he'd practically let out a purr of a sound instead of words; he either had no shame, or simply didn't seem to think the situation warranted it, "Yeah, well doesn't take a genius to notice that, Coralie," then, as if to point out how silly her words had been, he continued, "So, you really are a witch, aren't you?" there was no sting to the words though, making them sound like simple banter.

Morton had decided to take the fact she was scratching him as a sort of silent apology. After all, he'd never been all that into words; he'd always thought actions spoke louder than words.

Coralie seemed pleasantly surprised for the briefest moment. Was it really that easy? Well, she supposed he had been pretty darn eager for scratches the last time they met, so why not now? It was something she made a mental note that she should keep in mind for the future. An apology had not been her intention, but since there was no vocal claim of one, there was no visible rift in understanding, so everything remained as it was.

"Cora," she corrected, continuing to scratch. Her fingers were falling into a sort of absent rhythm, almost making the action forgettable. "Well, I don't really see how this implies I'm a witch," she mused. "Though I suppose we are notorious for having friendships with cats...gargoyle's a bit outside that though." He tone matched his current one rather naturally; sarcasm was almost built into her speech pattern as it was.

"Any particular reason you're out here on this rock?" she asked, seemingly as an afterthought as she turned her head just a little to the side so the whole of her face not cast under Wilfred's shadow was int he sun. She had to admit, it was a pretty nice spot for a day like today. If Luka had been here he would have been asleep within seconds.

"Cora?" his eyes which had been hooded, staring off into nothingness, seemed to focus for a moment as he rolled them so he could watch her, "Huh. Whatever - I thought Coralie was rather cute," and honestly? He actually rather liked cute things, but then again, he wasn't about to argue on that one, since he knew where she was coming from, "I don't like being called Mortimer; I prefer Morton myself," see that? They were pretty even.

Morton had arrived at the conclusion that this thing they had, (whatever 'this thing' even was to begin with), was rather comfortable, if not pleasent, so thus, when she asked what he'd been doing there, he turned his gaze towards her once more, "There was something that had been bother me," he told her honestly, almost bluntly, "So I came out to relax. I like to feel the sun warm me, mostly because having no skin... uhm... I can feel very little. Bones are like that - good for defense, but not that good on the feeling sector," which was one of the reasons he cherished physical contact so much, actually.

"Where were you going, anyhow? Before you decided to interrupt my sun bathing, that is," despite his words, it was rather obvious that he was no longer fussed at all over having his alone time 'interrupted', "If you've got nothing to do, you're more than welcome to join me - my boulder is probably one of the best places to sun bathe on campus. Even better than the roof."

"Hmph. Why do you think I don't use it? Cutesie is hardly what any of us aim for here, right?" She shrugged. Part of it too was that she had always been "little Coralie" in the family, among other, more annoying names. She hadn't felt like bringing that stigmatism here. "Yeah, I didn't even know your name was Mortimer. I think you just told me Morton last time," she said, trying to remember. She eventually gave up; she had accepted the idea long ago that if she was to forget something, names would be one of the first things. "Well, how about 'Morty'? That's rather 'cute'?" she offered with a small grin.

Her fingers began to tire, so she let her fingers drop and she shifted to she could lay back on the rock, arms folded behind her head. "I already joined you didn't I?" she answered more 'seriously', or at least more reasonably, "I was going back to my room. Nothing particularly exciting or dramatic." That could have been a god or bad thing or both really. She did ever so like excitement, or at least entertaining things, but if it meant a boring useless class instead well...she'd pass, thank you.

"Cute is perfectly acceptable in the right doses," at least as far as he was concerned; he enjoyed a nice, cute scene just as much as he enjoyed a good brawl. It just depended on the time and place, not to mention the person you were enjoying the time with, "You didn't? Hmmmm... well, yeah, my name's Mortimer," he paused and then actually visibly cringed when she called him Morty, "Yes, it's just about as cute as your name, huh, Coralie?" he made sure to stress her name out, as if in warning that two could play that game.

Despite that, he didn't sound particularly fussed over the ordeal. If anything, it was clear that this topic of conversation wasn't hitting the same nerve that she'd hit upon their meeting, and in turn, it showed that he didn't actually mind being teased; it apparently depended on the subject she picked to poke fun at.

He mumbled something unintelligent when he felt drop away from his head, and then he let out a sigh. Then, he rolled over just a bit, enough so he was hovering over her, propped up on an elbow as he leaned his head on a fisted hand, "So you have; make yourself at home, will you?" he arched a brow down at her, apparently amused that she'd lowered herself down to join him, apparently unfussed about the ordeal. See? This was one of the reasons he'd been so annoyed at himself earlier; she was clearly about as laid back as he was, which was bound to make her great friend material. He was pretty sure that this type of ghoul was hard to come by; he was more used to being yelled at, or perhaps shoved at; not being indulged, "Drama?" a smirk haunted his features, "What, you're looking for something interesting or dramatic to do with your spare time or something?" and maybe... something about the way he'd said that seemed to hint that he might know something interesting or dramatic to do.

"Seems about right," she replied, almost as if they had come to some sort of unsaid agreement. In her mind they had; no cute names for him if she didn't want one back. That was fair enough. Even if he probably didn't mind quite as much as she did. It wasn't that she got extremely put off by her full name, it was just that if she could avoid it, she could. That was all. But overall she smiled, seeming to like how much better there conversation was going this time. It was far more along her normal wavelength. Who would have thought! Well, there were more surprising things.

She had closed her eyes for a moment, but when he shifted so did the light that she could feel, causing her to open one maroon eye to look up at him. Her gaze was a little critical-no that wasn't it, curious. Was he getting at something? "Who doesn't prefer interesting over boring?" she retorted as if it were obvious. She added, "Why, do you have an idea apart from sunbathing?"

"Well, I wouldn't call it boring. Just... peaceful or comfortable," then again, maybe it was just a little too comfortable for her tastes? He personally had no problem with peaceful. After all, as a gargoyle, he was used to spending lengthy stretches of time mostly alone, with no other thing to occupy himself with other than, well... observing his surroundings, really (and he had to do that without actually moving his head, since he was usually trying to imitate a statue during those times). All in all, he couldn't say he disliked it, and he also couldn't say he didn't enjoy simply laying down and getting a nice ear scratch.

Who wouldn't enjoy that?

Surely a good head scratch was worth throwing away your tattered pride for. Right? Right.

"Maybe... though I'm not sure how exciting it might be to you, since you've already strolled through the clouds," a pause, "So, have you ever taken a ride on anything that isn't your broom?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 17, 2010 5:40 pm

"If this was boring I wouldn't be here," she clarified. "I meant what I was doing before was, or well not doing I suppose." Coralie, despite being very laid back, was actually a rather restless person when it came to being engaged. If she wasn't, she'd find something that satisfied her instead. She was all too aware of this, which at least made things easier in that regard. Sure, right now they weren't actually doing anything per say, but she was still very much occupied, which was all she really needed to begin with.

At his question, though, she opened both her eyes abruptly giving him a long look. She then tilted her head up a little, a smile rising sideways on her lips. "What, are you offering?" In fact, the look in her eye made her seem pretty eager. Whatever he had intended with the ride idea well...she obviously had an idea of her own which she was more fixated on.

"Of course," he sounded amused for some reason, still propped up casually over her, "But then again, I'm an interesting fellow, so I'm pretty sure I've nothing to worry about - I'm pretty sure you and I have nothing to worry about in that department," it was interesting to note that he didn't sound particularly smug or conceited when he spoke; it was almost as if he were teasing her, and thus, expecting some sort of retort right back. This type of banter was easy to pull off; it didn't strike any nerves, and since sarcasm seemed like the girl's default mode, Morton had no trouble adapting to it. After all, hadn't he been wanting to find friends that he could be familiar with? There was nothing more familiar or comfortable than what they were doing at that very moment.

She didn't even seemed particularly fussed by the fact he was hovering just a few inches above her, and he very much approved. This was clearly a step forward from last time.

As both her eyes snapped opened, he tilted his head to the side, making him look like some sort of innocent puppy for just a moment before the previous smirk appeared on his face, "Hmmm... I wonder," he drawled, "And here I thought you seemed like the particularly smart and sharp type. Was I wrong?" he took that moment to push himself up into a sitting position, and after stretching his limbs a bit, jumped off the boulder. A moment passed and he was back in his true form (he had been practicing on transforming back and forth without need to remove the collar - he had to admit this transforming was much more useful than previously anticipated).

"So," he drawled again he stood by the boulder, "Care give it a try?" it was pretty clear from his movements and the motion of his head that 'it'... apparently meant ridding on his back.

Coralie smirked as she sat up, adjusting Wilfred with a few light fingers as she watched him change. The phrase "this is the start of a beautiful friendship" came to mind, but speaking something like that seemed out of place. Maybe because it was something that both seemed to understand already. It had been int he undertones of their conversation and in the general flash of teeth they gave to one another. She wasn't a terrible fan of redundancy, not over things that mattered anyway.

"Hope your bones can't be ticklish," she told him as she hopped up from her seat. She barely brushed off her dress before she was hoisting herself up by climbing on one of his hind leg bones. It was actually a rather easy climb, as there were a lot of different places to grab hold, which was good, as she wasn't exactly an expert climber or anything. Once she was near the square of his back she settled as comfortably as she could between two vertebrae. "Not quite as comfy as my broom, but," she leaned against him with a smile, "I think I like the view."

Amusingly enough, he'd already thought of the phrase Coralie was thinking of to describe them. Needless to say, that was the biggest reason he'd been so irritated for the past two days; he felt like he'd let go of a golden chance. There was no denying the fact Morton felt horribly relieved to learn they could get along even despite 'misunderstandings'. The girl seemed to be the type that didn't hold grudges, and he... well, he was easy to win over, if one did the correct set of things. Plus, there was also the strategic benefit of befriending a magic-user (which he had, unfortunately, not yet realized, seeing as he was unusually slow when it came to things that might benefit him).

"Ticklish?" a snort was released as soon as he'd said that, "What? Nooooo," he actually allowed himself to chuckle slightly at that, lowering his frame down just a bit so the girl could climb up, "There's... uh, cons and pros when it comes to having this body. One of the major pros is that VERY little hurts me physically," he waited until the girl had settled down before giving a couple of experimental steps forward, checking to see if she'd grabbed on firmly, "One of the bigger cons is that I... uhm. I feel very little, if at all," this was said almost sheepishly, which came as an ironic contrast to his true form - it must have been amusing to see such a strange looking creature sounding so... sheepish. It probably also explained why he valued the physical contact so much.

"I'd hold on tight, if I were you," that was the only warning he gave before charging forward. He jumped over a fallen tree, and used momentum to leap onto a large boulder before propelling into the sky with practiced ease. Granted, he wasn't used to having a passenger of any kind, but seeing as how his body was already quite heavy and he didn't really rely on the human laws of physics to fly... he was able to pull it off, "If you try grabbing onto my horns, you might be able to steer," yes, that was in fact, an invitation.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 03, 2010 4:49 pm

Coralie held on as he stood up, leaning a bit with the motion. His stride was definitely different than her broom, so she was forced to adjust. Her balance, though, was good. It had to be with what she normally rode. "Does that have anything to do with your huge desire for-" Her words dropped right out of her mouth when he took off suddenly. The motion caused her instinctively duck down, holding tight to his bones.

When her breath came back to her it did so in laughter. She sat back ever so slightly, feeling the air tug at her hair and Wilfred. "That was beautiful," she called to him, though her tone made it sound like she had said something more along the lines of "kickass". It was strange, flying like this. It was different from how she flew for a lot of reasons, but there was one reason in particular that really struck her and she couldn't figure out what it was.

At his offer she lifted one hand and yanked Wilfred down, making sure he was nice and snug before she sat forward and reached out, one hand at a time, for his horns. It was a bit a stretch from where she sat and she ended up having to scoot one vertebrae further up to reach. She rubbed her fingers along his horns curves and said down toward him, "You sure you want to let me drive?"
