It was one of those pleasant, sunny days out that left the young buck happy to stroll through the trees surrounding the swamp that was his home. Falls-a-Lot was a bit of a nomad, never staying in one place for long, and had recently decided his old cave up near where he'd heard Nettle was rumored to live was just not the place for him. Especially not after that whole group of people had gone up there. He'd heard the rumors of what was going to happen, and he didn't want to be a target next time they decided to play jokes on folks. And so the buck had taken to a walk through the swamp to look for a new place to live, one that he wouldn't mind bringing the does back to, if he ever found some he was fond of.

He hummed lightly to himself as he walked about, his yellow eyes looking about sharply as he moved. Surely there would be a good home to take over here soon - or at the very least, perhaps a pretty doe to distract him from his search. Though, even a lively fellow buck wouldn't be ignored at this point. Young Falls-a-Lot was in need of friends to hang out with, he'd lost touch with many of the Kimeti he'd known when he had roamed away from where they usually were to be found and had come to the startling realization that for a charismatic and friendly Kimeti, he had a scarce amount of friends.

It was a wandering day today--one of those days where the brightly-coloured doe felt more like being alone than anywhere near another sentient being. It would be an understatement to say she was in a bit of a mood that day. She'd had quite enough of the immature jokes the small (and large, more often than not) children felt like making at her expense. Oh yes, her name was the butt of many a stupid quip. "Oh she's a Health Hazard alright." She swore if she heard that stupid line one more time...

No. No. She stopped to breathe. Today was to be a calm day. She had walked far from home for the sole purpose of clearing her head, not brooding of the unmendable stupidity of others. It wasn't like their stupid jokes even hurt her, anyways. When she was young and naive and softer, yes. Yes, she'd cried many times over those terrible puns. But no longer. If they wanted to make fun of her name, then they'd find that her attitude towards them would end up just the same. So it was that she became a self-proclaimed master of sarcasm, a witch with a sharp tongue and a cruel wit. Sure, this lead to her having very few proper companions, but who needed friends anyways? Not when you had a huge, gorgeous swamp to explore. A partner would only slow her in her quest for knowledge.

It didn't take long for the colorful buck to spot a doe of an equally colorful appearance. She stood out well in the trees and surrounding brush, much as he did with his bright green, purple and yellow hues. A small smile tugged at his lips as his hooves began to move him in her direction. He had always been teased for his name and his clumsy tendencies, but he didn't mind it so much. Falls-a-Lot was, after all, aptly named and took a spill just as often as he didn't.

With as much grace as he could muster he approached the doe, his golden yellow eyes flickering almost constantly to the ground beneath his feet as he tried his best to not trip over anything. A few feet away a hoof snagged on a vine that had somehow wound itself up on the ground, and with a snort of amusement at himself he glanced over at the doe after catching his balance. No longer able to approach her in a dignified manner, he instead opted for a goofy grin and proudly announced, "Well, hello there! I'm Falls-a-Lot!"

The buck dipped his colorful head just a little in what could be seen as either an embarrassed movement or a flamboyant bow as his knees bent on his forelegs to bring him towards the ground before he right himself properly. "What might your name be?"

Health Hazard's head whipped around when she heard the crash of hooves against dead leaves and branches. Someone else? All the way out here? Damnit, that would be her luck. He'd already spotted her, she knew, so dashing away now had the potential to cause rather unwanted drama.

The approaching stranger was even more flamboyantly coloured than she, something she did not expect this far from the more active branches of the swamp. Still, that didn't make him an any more wanted, a fact she attempted to make clear with the all-but-literal daggers she shot from her bloody red eyes. Sadly, that method didn't seem to be working, as the buck kept coming closer and closer until...

He... fell? What? She couldn't suppress the smallest of girlish giggles, a noise she regretted the very moment it escaped her lips. "Yes," she said dryly when he spoke, one eyebrow raised. "You certainly are." She inwardly sighed, and decided it might be best to take the path of least resistance with this male. That was to say, the path of trying to drive him off with her snark.

"Health Hazard," she replied, waiting for the inevitable stupid joke. Not that she didn't deserve one at this point, having already made one of her own. She hoped that Perhaps this comical creature might be able to come up with something new.

Falls-a-Lot was very good at ignoring daggers being shot from the eyes of the fairer sex. In fact, he had gotten to the point where he rarely even noticed that they were giving him The Look unless he was about to get kicked. Which didn't really happen that often, or at least, that was as much as he'd admit to. Unless there was a reward for angering females. Something he was fairly certain really didn't exist.

While the doe certainly didn't seem friendly, she had at least giggled just a tiny bit when he fell. A crooked grin took over his lips in response and he couldn't help but chuckle in amusement as she spoke. With a shrug of his shoulders he readily admitted to his clumsiness, "What can I say - I'm aptly named." Falls-a-Lot shook out the hoof that had just offended him before casting a sour look to the vine that had caused him to trip in such an untimely fashion.

The name the doe gave made him tilt his head and at first he didn't quite believe her. His golden yellow eyes peered at her curiously as he judged if she was serious before he gave a nod of his head. It certainly would fit her if she was always a snarky little doe. But then he smiled, "That's an interesting name."

And of course he knew he was likely on touchy territory - he could either ask how she got the name, or change the subject. He was a curious buck, surely, but he rather valued his life. So he chose the more chivalrous route and instead sat on the ground, with his tail flicking idly behind him. "What brings you out here, Health Hazard, if I might ask?" Falls-a-Lot gave another friendly smile, hoping the doe might be more receptive to him and, subsequently, a bit friendlier herself.

She cursed herself for that stupid slip. Her small laugh seemed to have been taken by this clumsy buck as an offer to stay a while. She rolled her eyes. What a lovely pun, one she had no doubt she'd hear turned back on herself momentarily.

So she waited.
And waited.
And the expected quip never came. Huh, how odd, she thought as she tilted her head slightly. 'A nice name?' he said? A first as well. Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad. Still, it was hard to trust a stranger in this day and age, so the doe decided to watch where this odd encounter would lead before making any proper judgments.

Her response to his final question was quick and cruel, as always. A single word, charged with a deadly tone and another glare. "Escaping," she said very matter-of-factly, hoping he'd read between the lines.

The roll of the eyes didn't escape the astute buck's look and a small smirk tugged at his lips at the sight. So he was getting on her nerves, was he? Well, that was just fine with him - he certainly didn't mind if he did, so long as she didn't start kicking or biting. Then there'd be a problem. Besides, he found how she acted to be rather interesting. She didn't seem like the sort to enjoy the company of others. But he didn't mind that, either, he could understand why. Her name was odd - surely she had been teased for it in the past. That would make anyone go nuts. He had also been teased before, for his clumsiness. The buck had chosen to embrace his oddities, though, and rather enjoyed his reputation. It made people expect that much less of him, which worked out just fine as far as he was concerned.

When the doe glared at him and her tone gave every indication he should probably be finding his way far away from her, he instead gave a deep chuckle and smiled brightly at her. Falls-a-Lot stood up languidly and moved so he could run if she went to bite or kick him, but gave her a friendly and caring smile, "And just what are you escaping from?"

He wasn't gone yet? Ugh. The doe suppressed a much-needed sigh of frustration. Some 'meti were just so obstinate, she could barely stand it. No, scratch that, she couldn't stand it at all. The thought of simply walking away now crossed her mind, but she brushed it off. She'd get a much nicer feeling from shooing the annoying buck away than from running away herself, anyhow. Oh, it was on now. Now, she decided, this was a competition to see who would leave first, and Health Hazard refused to lose.

She sighed, the noise calculated at the perfect length and pitch and tone to be both a sound of aggravation and frustration at once. She'd already chosen the perfect word as well, and spoke it sternly. "Nuisances." Would he get the hint? Maybe, maybe not. Part of her figured he was toying with her just as much as she was with him. A small part of her almost hoped he wouldn't--this battle of wits was fast becoming a fun game...for her, at least.

Falls-a-Lot tried very hard to suppress the snickering that threatened to escape his mouth when he heard the doe's sigh and saw how frustrated she looked. He tried and tried to hold it in, but finally couldn't and gave up on trying. Unfortunately for him, the snicker came out as more of a compressed choking noise when she said 'nuisances' and wound up as a full blown chuckle. It only took a few seconds for him to recover his composure and he tapped one hoof on the ground with one last, amused shake of his head before giving the uniquely colored down a skewed grin, "You mean like me?"

He knew she wanted him to leave, but he didn't really feel like it. Getting her to say more than a word or two in response to him was now a game and he fully intended on getting her to say one whole sentence if he could. Then he'd leave. But not before the doe spoke to him like a regular Kimeti. Until then, he took a couple steps to the side, so she could go past him if she wanted and gave her an amused grin the whole while. Was she having as much fun as he was? He didn't know, but he sure hoped so.

With a twitch of his tail the buck tilted his head, "So what was it about these", here the buck paused and snickered again, "...nuisances, made you want to escape so badly you wandered all the way out here?" His brightly colored head jutted out as he made a gesture that encompassed the area around them as what he meant by 'here'. Surely she couldn't give him just a one word answer now!
