It was early morning, evident by the sun just barely starting to peak through the thick canopy above. It seemed as though this place had become a favorite place of Lerato's. It was quite, secluded, and more importantly it was peaceful. No one came back here, afraid of the evil spirits that plagued the rumors about the ancient forest. The mere thought was laughable. A few feet away was a crystal-clear creek with could easily be traced back to the waterfall that spawned it. Surrounding the area are a number of targets for practicing the kido to come, high tension ropes entangling the trees near their tops incase a kido should get loose and try to knock one of them down to cause a domino effect. Kido being trained for: Bakudo: 58 Hado: 32, 54, 58

Lerato, now sitting cross-legged on a rock staring at a few fish swimming, had shown up a few hours earlier to get the training area prepared, an imprint of last time fresh in his memory. "How could any one think evil beings occupied this forest..." He muttered to himself as the fish below danced with one another. 'I hope Captain Shiboo doesn't get lost trying to find his way back here.' He thought looking around before shaking his head. 'What am I thinking. I'm probably the only thing back here with any type of noticable reiatsu. He'd have to be seriously off his game to be off by even a few feet...' Glancing around he wondered if he should try and douse the surrounding grass and tree trunks with water as a precaution but decided he'd deal with that obstacle when he was faced with it. Off in the distance he heard the unique and all too familiar chime of his zanpukato. "Look, I'm sorry, but it wouldn't make sense to carry you with me all the time, now would it? I have to learn to defend myself beyond just having you at my side." The blade, hanging from a branch, released a symphony of bird calls before falling silent once more.

Yamoto appeared beside Lerato. "Well know you do choose the most strange place to train don't you?" Yamoto smiled as he looked around the forest which was rather peaceful. "You know this place is supposed to be filled with evil spirits right?" Yamoto laughed at the thought of an evil spirit in this world. "Are you trying to gain power by drawing on the energy of this supposedly wicked forest." Yamoto walked a few feet away from where Lerato's was sitting and began to stretch. "Well now let's began shall we." Yamoto pulled out a bottle of ink and began to draw circle on the ground.
"Now the kido is used for tracking only which is really why I don't teach it much, but you can track reiatsu you are familiar with, so as for now we will use each other. To began this spell you must draw the proper symbol on the ground. It should look exactly like the one I just drew. (I can't find a picture.) Next you symbol place your hands on the symbol and focus reiatsu into your hands. Remember to have the reiastu of your target clear in your thoughts. Heart of the south, eye of the north, finger of the west, foot of the east, arrive with the wind and depart with the rain." The circle began to glow and soon Yamoto could see numbers. "Hmm lets see 100, 28, 49, 500, 10 ah and there you are." The circle slowly went back to just being a black ink drawing on the ground. "Alright your turn, you can use the circle I made cause I don't want to waste ink."

"I try to choose places where I'm at peace, otherwise I run the risk of letting my emotions sway the quality of my kido." He smiled while standing, stretching in place. "Oh yes, Captain Shiboo... I just love the power that malevolent spirits offer..." He chuckled as he walked over to him. It was good to know that someone had a sense of humor still. 'Ink.' It seemed bizarre to him until he watched his mentor use it, 'Of course...'
With a nod he kneeled in front of the circle which had been divided into four separate quadrants by a cross, each with a different symbol in it. Taking a moment to steady his breathing he placed his hands on either side of it and let his reiatsu seep into the earth filling the air with the fragrance of soil, trees, and various ferns. Keeping Yamoto's reiatsu signature clear in his mind he recited the incantation, "Heart of the south, eye of the north, finger of the west, foot of the east, arrive with the wind and depart with the rain." The circle once again began to glow in a flash of blue light allowing Lerato to see a list of numbers. "100, 28, 49, 500, 12" The numbers were only slightly off with the two men having changed places. Concentrating on the spell he could even start to make out the faintest outline of his reiatsu in a gray scale picture of the surrounding area. The more he tried to concentrate though the more he was drained so he let the spell subside and took a deep breathe. "Captain," he started, looking up at the man with an eye brow raised. "what would happen if you used blood as a catalyst for the spell, say incase you don't have ink on you. Would it still work, or would it come out skewed?"

"I believe it would work, and I think just drawing it in sand does as well, but I barely use the spell anymore." Yamoto sighed as he walked a few feet away from Lerato. "And now for the next one."
Yamoto held out his right hand and pointed towards nowhere in particular. "It is a basic hado spell when it comes to reiatsu manipulation, but it effective." Yamoto breathed in as he paused for a moment. "Hado 32. Yellow Fire Flash" Suddenly a large wide beam of yellow energy erupted from Yamoto hand. The energy spread out of a slight distance making this kido more effective on multiple targets that anything else. "Build up reiatsu in you hand like always, but at the last moment allow it to spread out like some of the more higher level kidos. Understood."

"Wait... why don't you ev-" He has started to ask the question, but was cut off when the man turned and walked away leaving Lerato to ponder on the subject. 'I know about the rumors that go around about Captain Shiboo being telekinetic, but...how?' After a few minutes of wondering he came to the conclusion that it was probably just a high level kido that he had created, unable to comprehend any other logical alternative without first hand knowledge.
"You weren't lying when you said it was effective." His mouth was ajar as he looked upon the targets nearest him, most of which had been given a nice even char. Lerato had to walk to Yamoto's right a ways until he found himself in front of some more useable targets. 'Build up your reiatsu, then allow it to spread out...' He was imagining just how it would feel, envisioning the scene before him before it had taken place. "Understood." He let the spiritual energy bubble up from his chest and gradually swell in his hands until they started to glow with the golden light. "Hado #32, Yellow Fire Flash." As instructed he lessened his control on the spell at the last moment, allowing it to spread out like a wave that nearly obliterated the targets. He allowed his hands to drop to his side as he looked upon the scene with wide eyes. "Perhaps a little bit too much..." He mumbled under his breathe.

"Very good" Yamoto smiled as he had heard the young shinigami thoughts. "A very long time ago I knew a girl who had a natural ability to communicate with the mind. She was so adept at it she could hears someone thoughts, as I just heard yours. It was rather annoying at some time not really being able to think around her, but I guess her power began to rub off on me allowing me to hear her mind, and then it just naturally advanced to where I could hear almost anyone thoughts if I concentrated hard enough. It is actually rather handy in a fight."
"Alright let's begin again shall we." Yamoto laughed as he found the next wooden dummy he would destroy. "This next kido can be fired in two ways, the first is the normal waves type manners where you shoot the kido out like a flame thrower. The other is you can concentrate the spell into a disc form causing the spell to explode on impact." Yamoto walked over to the dummy he was about to target. "We will using the latter method because it is more fun. The key is to build up reiatsu in your dominate hand, and do a swiping motion when you release, like this. Hado 54. Abolishing Flames" Yamoto swiped his arm from left to right releasing the spell at the target. The purple disc hit the target in the chest causing the enitre wooden dummy to catch on fire. "You see how fun that is. Your turn."

"Sir, I'm not going to lie... that's pretty damn disturbing if you ask me." He shook his head as if he was trying to rid himself of any thoughts. Then it caught up with him and a slightly red hue colored his cheeks. "Captain, I should apologize for anything that I've... uh... thought, that might have upset, disturbed, or otherwise unnerved you. My mind tends to wander." For some reason it felt as though there was an itch on the back of his neck that, no matter how much he scratched, he just couldn't rid himself of. "I'll do my best to keep my mind on one track from now on." With a bow he returned to the matter at hand.
"Seems easy enough. In fact, it reminds me a lot of throwing a discus." Spying a target further back into the woods he readied himself, planting his feet so his right was about six inches in front of his left. A few breathes later and a dense purple disc had formed in his left hand. A smile came to his lips as a brief memory from when he was alive ran through his mind. That's right, just like that. Now throw your weight from your right shoulder to your left when you swing. Atta Boy! It was brief, but the thought of his dad filled him with pride. "It's warm, just as it was back then." He chuckled. "Hado #54, Abolishing Flames." Following the instructions of both Yamoto and his father he swung his weight from right to left shoulder and his arm from left to right. The purple disc took off like a rocket, flying in between two trees with a slight curve before exploding on contact with the dummy. In another moment a second smaller disc had formed in his right hand. "Hado #54, Abolishing Flames." This time the spell flew slightly slower and with a greater curve as it was sent flying in to another target five feet or so to the right of the first dummy. "It feels almost natural. Maybe it's just because the movements are familiar though."

The captain laughed. "Yes I guess it is, but don't worry if I'm not focused, I can't hear everything only the stuff you are really concentrated so mind wondering will be no problem." Yamoto watched as Lerato summoned the kido with ease. The captain couldn't help but hear the boys father voice as the kido was released. "Interesting." It was rather weird for the captain to hear someone memory from earth, as the Captain had died so young that he had only one memory of earth, his own death. The captain smiled as he closed his mind to hear only his own thoughts for the rest of the training session.
Yamoto smiled at the shinigami progress this far. "Very well the key this next kido is the idea of reiatsu rotation. Now the best way to perform this spell is the channel your reiatsu into to something that can rotate easily. Yamoto pulled out his zanpakuto and showed it to Kiisho. "This is your best bet in a battle." Yamoto held his zanpakuto infront of him. "First you must focus reiatsu into the sword until it has enough to support itself in midair." Yamoto allowed reiatsu to flow into his blade, so much show that the reiatsu complelty consumed the zanpakuto. Yamoto removed his hand from the blade to demonstrate that the reiatsu in the blade was keeping it levitated. After you do this you simple spin the blade in the direction you want it to go." Yamoto flicked the blade to the right causing it to spin. Each rotation the speed increased until the zapakuto was just a spinning blur. If you use your reiatsu as a boost to keep the blade spinning it works better. "Finally you activate the spell. Hado 58. Orchid Sky." Yamoto stopped the blade by grabbing the hilt. All the reiatsu is released out the zanpakuto in the form of a giant whirlwind that was directed at nowhere. "That should do it."

"Captain Shiboo..." He started, a question coming to mind. "If you can hear thoughts, one would assume you can hear their memories should they play through their heads, right? Have you... have you ever heard something you wish you didn't?" It would only make sense after all that sooner or later he would come across a thought, or a memory, that was so inherently evil not even he would be able to comprehend it. "If I may be blunt, Sir, it sounds more like a curse then a gift." He said it quietly as he passed him, walking behind the Captain so he could grab his zanpukato.
The second he picked up his zanpukato the forest filled with a flurry of bird songs and calls. "Yes, yes. You get to be involved finally, now will you shut up?" An eagle screech sounded in protest but silenced itself in a muffled hmph sound. Lerato sighed in slight embarrassment, "Why do you always have to make a scene?" Silence. Mimicking Yamoto's actions, Lerato found a reasonably healthy patch of forest and held his zanpukato out in front of him while channeling his reiatsu into it, saturating the object with it until it was just a green-blue beam of light. Continuing on with his instructions he spun it clockwise. Soon enough his sword had become little more then a disc of color. "Hado # 58, Orchid Sky." For the first time Lerato deviated from Yamoto's example and grabbed the sheathed blade with one hand and the hilt with the other as a precaution. He didn't need either part to go flying off now. Once the zanpukato was jerked to a stop a tornado ripped forth, swirling the leaves and ropes above.

Once the area had settled down, one could hear the sorrowful tone of a loon looking for it's mate. "Fine. Just stop acting like I never let you do anything..." He was sure that he would have sounded quite insane by now to anyone who didn't understand he was, in fact, talking to the spirit of his zanpukato. He was also positive that he probably sounded like a complete a*****e to her since no one else knew her. Holding out his blade like before he allowed his reiatsu to seep into it again, but this time it was accompanied by a cacophony of songs. Static electricity made the hairs all over his body stand on edge. This time though the sword appeared as a deep cyan blue strip hovering in the air. As soon as he gave it a spin he could tell it was going faster, bursts of spiritual energy being released on opposite sides to keep it moving faster and faster still. "Hado #58, Orchid Sky." Even when it was released into a torrential whirlwind of energy it kept it's deep blue coloring, ripping leaves, vines, and ropes from trees. A few of the less stocky trees even started to bend near the tops making a hole in the canopy from which the spell could escape.
With most of the energy expended Lerato could do nothing but slump on to the ground waiting to catch his breath. "Homicidal b***h... always trying... to kill me..." He panted to himself. Lerato reached into his pocket and pulled out a chocolate bar, breaking off a piece and putting it into his mouth before looking up at the Captain. "Want some?" He asked, trying to laugh. He had found that almost nothing hit the spot better when you were exhausted then a nice piece of chocolate.

"My power is neither a curse nor a gift of any kind, it is just a useful tool that I use, and as for your question about if I have ever run into a person who's thoughts are evil, of course I have, but I can comprehend evil thoughts because I myself have committed evil deeds." Yamoto paused for a moment to sit down on a rock because his leg were beginning to feel tired. The captain watched as Lerato performed the kido quite well. A smile appeared on Yamoto's face as he heard the one sided argument Lerato was having with his zanpakuto. "Ah yes, the female zanpakuto always did seem much more of the free spirits than their male counterparts." The captain laughed as Lerato offered him a piece of chocolate. "No thanks, I'm fine, but do you have anymore questions about kido or myself that you wish to ask?"

"A tool." It was neither a question, nor a statement. It was a confirmation. "That speaks a lot to the type of man you are, to say something as powerful as that is neither a curse nor a gift." He said before leaning back onto a rock to nibble on his chocolate. Looking back up at him he shook his head. "As have, but that doesn't mean I understand them." Lerato placed his left hand on his zanpukato and closed his eyes. "I wish it were merely as simple as her being more of a free spirit. Don't let her appearance fool you, I really believe she wants to kill me some times." He stared down at the blade while nibbling on more of the brown candy, trying to think of something to ask. "Two, actually. I guess the first deals with the history of kido which, despite my research, I have yet to find any information on. Why did we develop kido? I mean, the point of a shinigami is to lead the souls on earth to soul society through Konso and to purify hollows, right? Then why would we need spells to bind and destroy souls?" Finally he looked up, eyes full of wonder. It had never made sense. All students at the academy were taught some basic kido, yet all shinigami were taught to purify souls. Two and two just weren't adding up. "Granted I know there are beings like the arrancar which are by no means normal hollow, but it would then make sense to keep all kido, even the lowest forms of it, reserved for the captain class. It's almost like we were taught kido to fight against other shinigami. Why?" He paused for a minute to scratch his head and look up at the leaves above that were slowly blowing in the breeze. "Captain Shiboo... what made you want to specialize in the demon arts?"
[I'm going to pm Fefnir to see if it's okay to continue on to a few more kido if it's okay with you.]

"Kido was invented to fight other shinigami in times of rebellion." The captain said these words with a very calm tone is his voice. "Binding spells main purpose are for the capture of an rogue shinigami, and most hado spells are designed for execution. Now the reason why all shinigami are allowed to use kido is because if the highers up were to keep stuff like kido forbidden there could be a rebellion, and that is just bad for everybody." Yamoto breathed in the fresh air as he moved on to Lerato's next question. "While it is true that I do know all kido and I am the most powerful kido user in the Sereitei, I haven't specialized in kido. To specialize in something means to give up other skills and focus solely on it. In my opinion that would be a weak person, no I aim for perfection in every form of combat. Kido is one of the four forms of shinigami combat, so it is only natural to want to be good at it. I also consider it the most civilized form of fighting for a shinigmai. I hope that answered your question enough."

"But who are we to decide whether someone lives or dies?" He asked. Now he must have seemed like a child. "Who are we to say which side of a rebellion is right and which is wrong? Wouldn't it make more sense to instead split the powers and have two separate leaderships to put those of the rebellion at ease? Or even just banish them some where?" The idea of killing a fellow shinigami was both disgusting and awe-inspiring. He started to shiver, head shaking from side to side to clear the image from his mind. "Kido; for those who believe in civilized combat." He laughed.
"So, I'd be correct to say you're the most well versed in kido, right? I mean, if you know all the kido, and your the most proficient in it, then it's an easy assumption to make after all. So, would you be able to teach me about kido construction?" He asked, nibbling more on his chocolate, letting the bittersweet food melt and coat the back of his throat. "Don't misunderstand me, Sir, but memorizing the incantations and learning the feel of channeling reiatsu is all but useless unless one learns why it works, isn't it? Without knowing the mechanics of kido in its basic form then true mastery of the demon arts will damn near impossible. I wanna know why the spells work, not just that they do." Crack pop pop snap. "Ah, that feels better." His lips curled up into a smile. "Surprising just how stiff you can get from sitting in one spot for a long time."
