Ja'syn was not pleased. It had been a rough time at Malvren with the majority of people in favor of using this...this...abomination of culture and tradition in order to "help out" the older Weyrs. Then there was the flight of that Malvren gold... And S'raid had won out. A win for Benden. Ja'syn shook his head, his thoughts full and most of them turbulent. Brynth was up in the weyr, taking advantage of the full sunlight and sleeping. Taking deep breaths, the brown rider tried to keep himself calm.

He would hate to wake up his dragon and calm him back down.

Ten turns had passed since Brynth was creening for him from the Sands, so small and eager to make his way up into the Stands to where Jamusyn had been sitting with friends and family. A rue smile crossed his face as he rememebered looking around for who was calling his name. And now, he kicked a rock, all that he cared for and held in the highest regards was in danger of being overwhelmed by childish hopes. Not on for anything in particular, Ja'syn headed towards the kitchens, hoping the hustle and bustle of Benden would drown out his own thoughts.

B'nas had returned to the weyr grumpy, it was unlike him but after the speeches, Milnth losing out to S'raid's dragon and having been unable to find a partner that day... he was not a happy bunny. Milnth on the other hand, had just been happy that a Benden dragon won the flight, he would have liked to have caught the gold but in his mind, there were plenty of other chances, he was young yet and there were many Greens that would relish being flown by the big brown.

"Mine, don't worry so much, frowns are not a handsome thing to look at. Benden sired at Malvren, Benden has righted that past wrong, all is well now" commented the Brown, from his perch in a shaft of sunlight.

"I know, i know, but YOU could have caught her, if you had just swiped back at the bronze" replied B'nas, so lost in his thoughts he failed to notice the more senior Brownrider as he headed t the kitchens for something to ease the knot in his gut, maybe a Benden white, or something similar.

Ja'syn didn't notice his fellow brown rider near him until they nearly bumped shoulders. Nodding a hello, he shifted out of the way and recognized B'nas. They had flown together to Malvren and both had similar tastes when it came to the speeches that had been made. "Hello there, how was your journey back, B'nas? Settle back into your weyr okay?"

Ja'syn, when he had returned home, had systematically gone through and cleaned and rearranged his room back to where he thought it should be even though nothing had changed. He was meticulous and liked order. Brynth had done the same thing, sweeping out all of his old sand and rocks he used for itches and bringing back some of the sand from Malvren beaches. "Join me? I was going to see if I could get a decent glass of Benden and some hearty stew."

B'nas blinked as someone addressed him "Oh! Ja'syn, it's you" he said smiling now "i got back fine, sharding fools they all are over there" he grumbled, not loosing his winning smile though. He too had worked some of his frustration off by oiling Milnth's leathers til they shone, making sure there were no patches of wear on any of it. That and finding a willing woman for the night when he arrived home.

B'nas' eyes brightened, "of course i'll join you, we can find us some wine, some food any maybe a woman or two for tonight hmm?" he joked....well, mostly joked anyway. "I'm just glad it was one of our lot that caught that queen, we showed em good that Benden excells, my Milnth was wing to wing with S'raid's sharding bronze, if only that great beast hadn't swiped out at my lad... he'd have caught her" he boasted.

"Mine, even if he had not taken a swipe i might not have caught her, i was getting tired" said Milnth "There are no greens rising soon here" he lamented.

"Sharding fools is right." Ja'syn took a chair near one of the tables close to the front of the hall. He stared briefly at the table for wing leaders and the Weyr leaders, wondering if he would ever have a spot up there. Turning back, he gave a grin and waved over a drudge. "Two large bowls of stew and a pitcher of klah. Is there Benden available?"

The drudge, in awe of two brown riders, nodded slowly but scampered to go get the stew before Ja'syn could say anything else.

Sighing in frustration, he turned back to B'nas, voice lowered. "Good help and good opinions seem far and few between these days. Wouldn't you agree? Even though one of us flew that Malvren gold, it was S'raid's bronze that flew her. Brynth and I came in too late and had to settle for flying off our frustrations."

At the mention of his name, the brown began to stir from his sleep.

B'nas smiled and noticed Ja'syn's brief look over at the Weyrleaders table "too much politics over there Jay'syn" he chuckled, "give me good food, Benden wine and a few willing females and i'm happy enough" he laughed. taking up a chair beside his fellow Brownrider.

He spared a gentle smile to the drudge before he'd scampered off.

B'ans nodded slowly "Benden... is losing respect" he sighed. "Especially after......" he left the comment trailing his mind going back to the crimson's death at Trine. "maybe this will be Benden's triumph" he suggested although he was sure that the crazy old man's idea would surely fail. Yet again, leaving Pern in worse shape. "I'm sure if you'd come in at the start, he'd have been right up there with Milnth and Galvanth" he offered to reassure the man.

"It may be too much politics, my friend, but our leaders are like the Stewards and Lords of the Holds. They are supposed to guide us and well..." He laughed at B'nas's statement. "Those are essential to a happy life! I hope a green rises soon to ease yours and Milnth's needs. My Brynth, he enjoys the ladies but picky my old man is."

I am not a man, I am a dragon. And I would not go chasing any tail that is wagging at me, Brynth huffed as he stretched and flew out to the Weyrbowl to sun. Good day to you, Milnth.

Ja'syn smiled at his dragon's reaction.

B'nas tapped his foot, where was that sharding drudge with the wine, he glanced over at the Weyrleaders table, "they may be Ja'syn but i'd rather be at these tables, they're much more fun" he laughed, "Each Dragon to their own, but if he wants tail at all he'd better start chasing" he joked.

"Brynth is right, we at least only chase females every so often, You in particular B'nas seem to chase 'tail' everyday" he sent towards both riders and the other Brown.

Ja'syn snorted in his klah and had to clean the mess up. Milnth had certainly lightened his mood with that comment. Finally, the drudge came back with two small glasses and a half skin of wine. Giving the man a smile, he gave B'nas a glass and poured him some wine. It was Benden and it was white, not the best vintage but certainly quinched his thirst.

"Your fellow may be right. Starting to get quite the reputation, aren't you?" He chuckled. He looked around and moved a little closer. "Speaking of reputations, are you happy with the way Benden's is going?"

Brynth bobbed his head outside in thought. Sometimes, it is hard to imagine Ja'syn chasing 'tail' when I am not in a Flight.

B'nas grinned, no matter how blunt his dragon could be, it never bothered him, because the Brown was always right. He even enjoyed Ja'syn's reaction. "I can't deny it, i love the ladies, what can i say?!" he laughed, "though, i'm not so sure on the.... 'other' greenriders" he said with a wry smile.

He took a large gulp of the wine Ja'syn poured him. "hmm, fairly decent vintage, with a nice fruity twist. We certainly do have great wine" he commented. He was forced to grit his teeth at his fellow rider's next comment, "Happy is a strong word" he said flatly.

"It's hard to imagine B'nas NOT chasing 'tail' but i don't think he enjoys every flight like i do" laughed the brown

"When Brynth goes chasing a dragon and rider of that persuasion, I find it much easier to get a stand in. Makes life easier and no awkward questions in the morning." Ja'syn smacked his palm on the table.

Sipping his wine, he listened carefully to what B'nas had to say and nodded slowly. "Happy is not the word I would use at all. But, the only way to change policy is to fly the senior gold. Of course, if enough like-minded riders got together and supported one bronze or one rider, surely the dragons would know."

Ja'syn does not like when I chase all greens. But they come in all shapes and colors. How can I not?
PostPosted: Sat Jan 29, 2011 1:06 pm

B'nas nodded as Ja'syn spoke of a stand in "sometimes it's not that easy though, especially not with my reputation" he winked. If the other man didn't know B'nas' taste for pretty women yet, then he never would.

B'nas let out the breath he hadn't realised he was holding. "I'm with you but i don't know any of the Bronze riders well enough to back, Dragons or not, we'd need one to our way of thinking" he replied, pouring himself another glass of wine. "Shardit Ja'syn .. this whole thing is crazy, we should be looking to our own the oldtimer junk is useless, it didn't help then, why would it help us now?" he griped.

Brynth, i think Ours just don't understand.....oh here we go again ... B'nas! It is worth trying anything is it not? .... Milnth commented loudly to all minds involved. He and B'nas had gone over the topic on the flight back to Benden, in fact, he'd taken B'nas on a little detour to help him cool off before returning to the Weyr.

Again Ja'syn laughed along with his fellow brown rider. He had heard that the man was enthusiastic. Women talked all the time. And if someone was quiet, they could learn a lot of things. He nodded with B'nas's outburst and leaned in close. "There are still some records. You can see what acts of desperation get us. Our best bet would be to take a newly Impressed bronze rider and start to work with him. Let him know we will support his rise to power as long as we have his support in other ways."

This was whispered so that drudges and others milling around would not hear his words. Ja'syn did not yet know all of those who thought as he did.

Brynth rumbled outside. He did not like when his muttered such things but he did believe that the tried and true methods were the best ones. The brown added in his words. What happens when you try and all you do is fail? I agree that such junk is useless. You need to find what works and stay with that.
