I always think of something like an octopus, but maybe with a few more tentacles: 8 for tickling, and some for walking on land and holding ankles and wrists. And it would tickle because laughter feeds it somehow? And maybe it would stop when it got full. I don't know how that would work.
I think it would have to look cute somehow, so people wouldn't be afraid of it unless they knew it tickled and didn't want to be. Maybe it would like to be petted.

I actually considered writing a story about my imagined tickle monster... a caterpillar-like creature that also could rear up on hind legs to support itself while tickling, so it could use all of its other hands/legs to hold on or tickle. It would secrete something sticky where your arms or legs would be pinned, to ensure you couldn't go anywhere until it has its way with you. I imagine it would feed on your laughter until it couldn't produce anything further from you (i.e. you go hoarse, or pass out). Then it would let you go and leave you wherever it picked you up, and go on its merry way.

I always imagined a tickle monster as a spider of some sort. It looks a tiny bit scary at first, but when people find out what it does, they're not scared of it. Instead, they use it for punishments on cute girls. And instead of being fed by laughter, I think it would tickle because it simply likes the sound of laughter. Then it would eventually let the poor victim go, only to move on to the next.
