Hello! I'm sure you're wondering how you should go about setting up your journal. Well, look no further, this post should contain all of the information you need!
There's already a post on this in the OOC section, so I'm going to copy-paste what's written there, and then we'll get onto the Journal Layout. :3
All students must have a journal. Journals are written by the Metas as they grow, and are key to the growth requirements of the shop.
Journals should be updated regularly to ensure maximum growth for your child as well as a record to the past of your child so that you don't need to go sifting through threads to find information.
All journals are made by each of the owners but MUST have the child's name within square brackets at the beginning of the title.
Ex: [Santheas] -Dark Wings- A Diary of a Demon
The first post of each journal shall contain a) The Cert, and b) A description of the child's journal that they write in.
The first page of the journal must also be filled out and all posts reserved so that you can add fun stuff later. If you need any help, just look through the other journals in this section for inspiration, and anything else you have a question on, just ask.
Side Note: If you need any help coming up with powers for your meta, I suggest looking at this website. It has a huge list of random (and typical) super powers. You can use this as inspiration or even take a few abilities from here.
Toddler- 3 abilities/1 resistance
no higher than level 1
Child- 4 abilities/ 1 resistance
no higher than level 3
Teen- 5 abilities/ 2 resistances
no higher than level 5
Adult- 7 abilities/ 3 resistances
no higher than level 7
Elder- 9 abilities/ 4 resistances
no higher than level 10
Toddler→ Child:: The Meta must have been a toddler for 1 month
■ Journal Set-up Complete>> because different people have different ideas as to what constitutes a journal, the way this will be determined is that if it looks relatively done, it will be deemed done. But if there's huge chunks missing, then we might consider your journal to be 'unfinished'. Basics should be done, having some reserved posts is okay.
■ 2 Journal Entries>> There are two (2) diary-type entries for this stage.
■ 1 RP Play-date>> Defined Below
Child→ Teen:: The Meta must have been a child for 2 months
■ 2 Journal Entries>> There are tw (2) diary-type entries for this stage.
■ 1 RP Play-dates>> Defined Below
Teen→ Adult:: The Meta must have been a teen for 3 months
■ 2 Journal Entries>> There are two (2) diary-type entries for this stage.
■ 1 RP Play-dates>> Defined Below
Adult→ Elder:: The Meta must have been an adult for 6 months
■ 2 Journal Entries>> There are two (2) diary-type entries for this stage.
■ 1 RP Play-dates>> Defined Below
Elder→ Mystery 6th Stage:: The Meta must have been an elder for 1 year
■ 2 Journal Entries>> There are fifty (50) diary-type entries for this stage.

For every stage, two (2) first person diary entries are required, along with one (1) roleplay. A roleplay MUST be done with at least one other person, unless you have special permission from one of the RP managers or the shop owner to count a roleplay entry in you child's journal as a roleplay..
*RP Play-date: There are three options to fulfill one RP play-date. They are as follows:
1. RPing with someone else. It can be in groups, it can be with one person. As long as you RP at least 6 posts, it counts. It is per thread per time IC, (thread rule does not include MA_Official run permanent threads). For example, if you are RPing with someone else in the Sparkling Lake thread, and it last seven days IRL, but IC it is one day, it counts as one RP no matter how many times you post. (Ex: Like, if there's 11 posts in total, 6 by person A and 5 by person B. That would meant that person A gets a point for the RP playdate, and person B will need to post one more time before getting the credit too.)
2. RPing in your journal counts as a play-date. It has to be a sizable entry and should contribute towards your metas growth in personality or abilities. Interaction between your Meta and family members can be counted in journal entries as play-dates. (Diary-type entries do not count here.) [This option is only available to those who are given permission, however, we do strongly encourage RP journal entries.]
3. Participate in an event, and make six posts with your Meta.
When thinking of powers for your meta, you must consider that it make sense with the item you gave your meta. You cannot have a meta with a cat ear item shooting lighting out of its butt. That just doesn't make any sense. So, please think hard on where you want your item to take you since your powers will be based on your item.
For example; Here is Nova.
Her item is a "Vial of Pixie Dust". This means that she could have powers that pertained to the following:
Glitter Bomb: Can explode into a big cloud of glitter and reform after the glitter settles. (Can be set off accidentally by sneezing.)
Shining Aura: Can glow brightly to temporarily blind people.
Shape-Shift: Can change her body size to become as tall as a pencil.
And so on...
This also means she cannot have any powers that do not relate to her powers. Such as fire, metal, farting nuclear bombs, etc.
Resistances can and are usually also based off of the meta's item. For example; Nova can resist magic that involves something as small as persuasion magic or as big as resisting dimensional rifts. (Because those kind of go with fairies/pixies, i think) But she cannot resist things that cause deafness, electricity, fire, memory loss, etc.
And last thing, is that you may put all of your future powers in your list of powers (there does not have to visibly the amount required or restricted, but can be as many as you want. (Up to 10, i think) Just make sure that the only powers with levels are level 1 and above. If your meta does not have the power yet, please mark is as "Level 0".
Example; Nova's powers

All righty, now that that's out of the way, lets get onto the Journal Layout. This is just one way of setting up a journal, feel free to design yours however you like, as these are just post ideas. There are some posts that are required, and I will note them as such.
The first post should be:

The Journal of Deskri is a simple looking thing. The cover is black, the pages are worn from being leafed through either by himself or others who have felt the urge to read what's on his mind. The handwriting leaves much to be desired though, and on some pages it's not even legible. The book itself is stuffed, so much so that it can't close all the way. Pictures, bits of fabric or other such random things are stuck to a few pages here and there.
Some people choose to put a pronunciation in their first post as well, it's not required, but this post itself is.

Should you feel like it, you can place a post to keep track of when important things happen to your Meta. For example, when one grows, or when they fall in love, when they get married or when they have children. This post is NOT required, but it's nice for those who want to remember what happened when. :3 You could also place a Table of Contents in this post as well.

The third post...
A Biography!
This is required!
It's always nice to know who is who on a deeper level, a Cert says a lot about a Meta but not enough!
We'll use Deskri again as an example of a biography: [Keep in mind that Deskri has been around since '06, and is therefore a fairly developed character. Don't expect to have a bio this big, a small one is just fine!]
Me
Name: Deskri Meian
Nickname: Des. Panda. Emu/Emo Panda. (Semankriiiiii)
Sex: Male
Age: 21
Stage: Adult
Item: Liquid Eyeliner
Height: 5'0"
Eyes: Gold, usually angry.
Hair: Purple, changes with his emotions
Skin: White as white can get....
Style: Fitted clothing, long pants, short sleeved shirts... Chinese style. Turtlenecks, long sleeved shirts. Black, purple, and red. Occasionally dresses a little more punkish. Plaid is love.
Commonly known facts: He's gay, and totally head over heels for Rasiel. He's possessive, don't touch his precious Rasiel or Sonnet. He's a brownie addict, like, for serious. He's a purple whore, give him something purple and you'll automatically make it to his okay list. (But not friend list, that's really hard to do.) And he can't swim to save his life.
Hidden facts: He's terrified of heights. (Don't ask me how he survives when Sonnet flies him places, I don't know either.) He's got a terrible case of arachnophobia. Even the tiniest spider will make him freak out. God forbid said spider ever gets away, he won't sleep until it's dead. Literally.
Overall Personality
Putting Deskri in a nutshell is impossible. But I'm going to try. Essentially, Deskri is a twisted shell of what he could have been, if Kagyaku had not existed. He switches from being a genuinely caring, loving individual to being spiteful and angry for no reason at all. Usually the latter gets taken out on himself, because Deskri does not enjoy hurting other people at all. He'd much rather receive the pain than give it. To close friends, Deskri shows his "true self," or who he would have been without Kagyaku's influence. He tends to be very concerned with their feelings, their thoughts and what's going on in their life and how he influences it. Deskri will never behave that way with someone new. Ever. Everyone else gets the "shield" he created to protect himself from further torment during Kagyaku's possession. Outwardly, he's short tempered, he complains all the time, and is incredibly immature for his age. That's not the case at all, he just doesn't want to let anyone and everyone under his skin. Granted, he is immature for his age but it's less apparent when he's talking to a friend rather than someone he's just met.
The Good
Loyalty/ Once you've made it into the friend zone, Deskri will stick by your side through thick and thin. That is, until he thinks he's done something unforgivable, and then he runs for the hills. Away from you. But he'll come back if you're in danger and he somehow manages to hear about it.
Protective/ Deskri'll protect the people he cares about to his very end. Literally. He's pretty damn serious about that sort of thing.
Ambitious/ In a sort of backhanded way Deskri will... slowly work at getting whatever it is he wants. Whether it be brownies or a cuddle. By backhanded I mean he'll beat around the bush when speaking, or leave hints... If he's in a particularly bold mood he'll take what he wants.
Forgiving/ This is for close friends only! Deskri will dole out forgiveness to anyone that's managed to get through his shield as if it were candy so this could also be a negative, but it means that if a friend happens to step on his toes he's likely to forget about it after awhile. However, if someone hasn't gotten passed his shield, he'll hold a grudge forever. Or at least never forget that whatever set him off happened.
Loving/ At heart Deskri's just a pile of loving mush, and when he gets attached to someone he seriously gets attached. He's an all or nothing, especially with lovers. He'll give all of himself, yet expect nothing in return. For friends, he gives everything but his heart and... whatever else his lover wants.
The Bad
Poor Self-esteem/ Deskri often thinks of himself as the lowest of the low, which means he gets depressed extremely easily. This also means that he takes everything personally, so he ends up turning helpful criticism as an attack on his existence.
Addictive Personality/ Deskri will get addicted to things quite easily. For awhile it was cutting, then it was pills, back to cutting.. Brownies... Physical contact. It could be anything, really.
Extreme Jealousy/ On one hand Deskri'll be your bestest friend and follow you wherever you go, but on the other... He'll get jealous if someone tries to talk to you when he's talking to you, or someone wants to spend time with you when he's spending time with you...
Weak Willed/ One could say this is not a natural flaw for Deskri, but it's a flaw nonetheless. Because of prior treatment, Deskri is very weak willed and will give into anyone with a stronger will than his own. This means his loyalty can also be gained through malicious acts. He'd much rather obey someone than suffer, or worse yet, let a friend suffer.
Short Temper/ Deskri has a very short fuse and he's not above blowing up in someone's face. Anyone's face. Even his closest friends. This of course means that he emos about it forever and ever afterward, depending on how close the person he blew up on was...
Immature/ Deskri, although he knows better, is the sort of person that'll get into a shouting match with a toddler over who gets the purple chair rather than the yellow one. Thankfully this... lightens up a little bit when he's associating with close friends.
Possessive/ This sort of ties in with his jealousy problem, but Deskri is extremely possessive of his things, his friends, and anything else he has claim to. Messing with anything he deems to be his will instantly piss him off and land you on his "hate list" of people. This goes for trying to steal friends, touching his things, or just poking fun at him by gaining the attention of someone special to him.
Pastimes
Drawing/ Because he has to draw out some of his illusions, Deskri draws to pass time. He's a fairly decent artist, for his own little things.
Baking/ Brownies. That's all I can really say. He can make pancakes without killing anyone, and he can make canned soup... And Ramen, but that's it. Don't give him a cook book and expect to get a good meal out of it.
Music/ Purely as a listener, but he wants to learn an instrument. He's particularly fond of violins, (can you guess why?) pianos and recorders.
Reading/ if left to his own devices, Deskri will resort to one of two things. He'll draw, or he'll read. When he's got his contacts or glasses he's actually a very fast reader... Without them it's hopeless and so he'll resort to the third option, which is sleeping.

The Fire Dog
This is a highly dramatic and attractive Dog that will be thrown into the limelight by his alluring yet friendly personality. he will be defiant and rebellious when forced to do something against his will, but he will be very popular with the opposite sex. Although he may be a life-of-the-party type, he is careful to practice what he preaches and will not be spoiled by success and fortune. Fire makes him very fierce when attacked, and he will only make threats he can carry out. This Dog's bite is just as strong as his bark.

What are their parents (or parent) really like? Where do they work? What silly quirks do they have? What about their siblings?
That part of the post is not required, and could even be made into a separate post altogether.

The sixth post...
Powers!
[This is a required post]
Here's the fun part! Come up with some powers for your Meta. You can list them all out, or just put up enough for their stage. (three for a toddler, for example.) Any extra powers must be at level 0 to indicate that they aren't active.
Keep your powers believable, as in, don't give a toddler the ability to smash a boulder, that's just silly. That could be a (possibly far stretched) child ability or teen ability.
Also in this post,
Resistances!
You can list more than is necessary, but they too must be listed as level 0. Try to think of what would be ineffective against your Meta's item.
and, Weaknesses!
We want at least two of them listed, more if you feel like it. They don't have to be other powers, one of Deskri's weaknesses is Brownies! (He loves them to death, you know.)

Not all Metas have this, but a lot of owners have taken to googling images of bedrooms for their kids. This post could simply just be that image, or there could be a description along with it. Either way, this post is not required, but it's still fun.

A theme song! Or theme poem, or picture... or anything really.
Can a song narrate your Meta's life? Or their entire personality? Feel free to post up the lyrics (with credit to the band) in this post. And possibly a link to youtube, we all love to discover new music!
People change, and so do Metas, so if a song is no longer ringing true with your Meta, feel free to change it. Some people like to keep track of past songs, as they tell a story about how their Meta has grown.

The tenth post...
An activity log!
[This post is most definitely required]
The mods who track growth just love it when people keep track of what their Meta is doing, since it saves them a looot of time and trouble. This post is mainly to keep track of how many diary entries a Meta has, and how many rps they've been in.
Some people provide links to the entries, but it's not required. All that is required is that it's updated each time a new entry is made. Mods will still check the journal just in case someone forgets, but it's always nice to see what should be there before checking.
Please provide Links to the roleplays. A roleplay does not count unless a Meta has had 6 posts in it, so Mods will need to go count them. Even if your Meta doesn't get six posts in, you may want to link it in the diary anyway, just to keep track of where s/he's been.
