Not completely sure where to put this. If it isn't right, i'm sorry.
Anyway, this year my school is actually participating in solo and ensemble as well as regionals. I decided i might as well do both, since I have been wanting to get an ensemble together anyway.
Well, we are having issues finding music to play. Our ensemble is a bit...odd. If i remember corrctly, we have 2 clarinets(me and my freshman), a bass clarient, a french horn, and a trumpet. I'm not sur eif any were added in last minute or not.
So, does anyone know of a good piece to play with this instrumentation? We need one that is fairly easy, but not so easy that its simple. If it helps, the skill elvels of the musicians in our ensemble: Me: I can play almost anything. I really like fast pieces that are somewhat challenging Clarient 2: Hes a freshman, but he practices often and has made it into the higher band. If he doesnt understand soemthign, he gets help with it. Bass clarinet: skilled clarent player, but new to the bass. Hes pretty much amstered it already though. Horn: NNw to his instrument, but he has a college sister who plays and can help him out. He played trumpet for marching. Trumpet: Been playign for a while, but doesnt find need to practice. if he did work at it, he has good potential. I've heard him play soemthing he knows well, and he is good. He just doesnt practice. trying to get him to break the habit.

I can't help you with the instrumentation, but maybe you can arrange something! Does your school have the computer program finale???? Personally if I were you, I would try and get together a woodwind quintet (flute, oboe, clar. bassoon horn) there's much more literature out there for that

Hm...arranging soemthign myself would be kinda cool, but i dont know if we have finale at my school, let alone if i would have enough time. I only have until late january, like either the 19th or 29th, sand most of the band is already signed up for something.
See, she gave us 10 minutes to put an ensemble together. Which is why if you wanted an ensemble, you could't focus on good isntrumentation. It was either find good players, or good instrumentation. And then we had to fill out forms telling who was in our ensemble. I dont know if she will let us change it.

That's a very different ensemble. Usually ensemble pieces are written for certain instrumentations such as woodwinds, low woodwinds, brass, etc. I don't believe that there's going to be a piece out there with all those instruments as a strictly "ensemble" piece, so I would suggest switching out the brass for woodwinds, or perhaps getting more people to join so it would be more like a mini-band? Sorry for the lack of advice.
