A few weeks after the attack that sent the Flock into a flurry, Cabriole couldn't help but have Mixed feelings. Judging the shift of the seasons, and the passage of time, a slight ache in his heart made him realize it was getting ever closer to a year since he had been separated from his family. It still hurt, knowing that they missed him and that he may never be able to see them again.. Not as long as they are free.

On the other hoof, however... His mistress Zahraa' had always been kind since he settled into his capture, and the frightening time of the fierce attack of the two gryphon like brothers, where most of the males had risen up to fight against the others, as Cabriole found himself in a dark cave, hearing the din of battle and not knowing what was going on, who was attacking, or if they'd come after him when it was all over, what his fate would be with these unknown attackers in the heart of a thunderstorm.

When it was over, most of the other males had been stolen away, and Zahraa became more possessive and protective of him then she had been.

As odd as he realized it was to think it, it was actually nice to be practically coveted and cared for, with no real responsibilities save to continue training himself to dance and sing on command rather then just when he wasn't really trying, and tell stories when requested.

Which, really, was what he had loved to do most.

And here, with the Harpies of his Flock, he could do the most good -- They were obviously rare, and from what he understood less violent then another flock that had moved to the Kawani lands around the same time they had. They had at some point in the past suffered an indignity due to the male race, and it had become their culture. If he stayed, and showed them that things were different and not all men were deceitful and untrue, but could be loyal and honest.

Something he had come to realize he had become for Zahraa', loyal and fond of the mare, not minding her physical differences. Sure, she was a predator, but he was no longer her prey.

A sing song chirrup announced her approach long before she was within viable range. Calling out her return to the honey colored stallion that would just where she had left him when she was so suddenly called away to assist with a matter of food and foals for the nannies and foragers. Apparently a few rambunctious babes had gotten into some of the fruit the foragers had managed to find and gather up. It was a minor thing, but Raa' had been called to mediate anyways. Besides, she liked seeing the foals. Some had so recently been stolen away from them, and the remaining young ones were so very precious.

As was her loyal pet. He'd not risen up against his captors, but had hidden away with Garuda in a cave. Purposefully avoiding freedom by liberation. So sure she had been that he would be gone upon her return from the battle, she had not immediately gone looking for him. He had been the one to find her when the dust had settled. He had been coveted before, but now he was precious to her. She may not love him as a normal mare may love their mate, as she was not raised in a setting that believed in such things, but she valued him greatly.

Her task finished, she was on her way back to him. Separated now by only a few trees and a story or two of height. She bond from branch to branch in her approach, claws digging within the forgiving flesh of the trees the harpies used for walkways. One last impish chirp sounded before she dropped from canopy, landing no more then a foot from her dear pet with a grin already set on pale lips.

"I knew you would remain where I left you," she purred. Gliding up beside him to rub her shoulder the length of his cream colored body until she tuck the soft crest of her feathered mane below his chin. Lavishing her attentions upon him like some great cat.

Nibbling delicately in return, Cabriole buried his nose into her feathers with a little snort, still somewhat tentative and awkward at the attention, inexperienced enough to know how to return it, "Where would I go?" He chuckled slightly, resting his forehead against her, shoulder, before peeking up at her with a playful little smirk, "If I wandered at all, it'd be within sight of where you left me as I graze"

The tickling sensation of the nibble and sharp breath along her feathers sent a shiver along the length of her spine, white fur standing on end for the briefest of seconds before settling once again as he rested his forehead against her shoulder. She turned a smile down to him that only brightened at his soft little smirk. "It is a comforting thing to know you'll always be waiting," she purred, rolling her shoulders under the press of his brow.

She slipped out from beneath him, but only to turn so she could press her cheek to his. "The sisters are envious." She murmured, clearly proud of that fact. "I'm glad you stayed."

Cabriole chuckled a little nervously, quirking an eyebrow in an almost teasing fashion, "Well, I was in a cave with Garuda. If I had wanted to go, I couldn't have. However, I did place myself there at my own will."

His smirk turned into a full on smiled as he bumped his forehead against her, eyes closing, "I wouldn't leave my mistress, after all, not if I have a choice in it. As much as I miss my family and the ways of being a wandering trader... I'm much more useful here then I was anywhere else."

The harpy drew a breath, lingering on the scent of honey that always seemed to cling to him. Had it always been so, or only after he'd tamed the bees for them? Regardless, real or simply in her head, the sweet hint of cloven honey surrounded her precious stallion, and the scent alone was like catnip to the predatory mare. "The choice was there, and you chose me. That's what matters."

There had been a draw to the tawny male from the start. Something about him, personality or visual, or both, that left the pale harpy feeling completely twitterpatted. He was hers, -hers- alone, and she would not share him among the sisters. Her clever pet, her dancer, her story teller. "Oh yes, my sweet, you are useful." She chuckled softly, turning her head to drag cheek along his so she could lip his mane, making the large bell chime gently. She had her own trinkets now, her own bells and beads. Gifts from Cabriole and the hawk that'd showed favor to him, to her. Oh how the sisters must envy her spoils.

"Ha!" Cabriole smiled coyly at his mistress, smiling, "And it seems to have been a wise choice on my part, if I'm allowed that bit of vanity. Especially since so many of the other stallions left."

It had shocked the stallion to see how many HAD honestly left, how many had escaped... And how one of the attackers had been captured, wings trimmed and kept on a close watch of the queen herself, and often times Garuda. He didn't appear to be tortured, or held responsible enough to have been executed, and it showed just how... Mistaken and unaccepting the outside world beyond his old home of Yectenehua was of unusual cultures and creatures, and thus was actually the source of the mares habit of mistrusting outsiders. He knew their legends -- if the first harpy had been born to an angeni to a regular stallion, and it seemed much of the world was just as xenophobic as that first ancestral 'outsider'.

"Vanity in reasonable doses has never been frowned upon by our sort." She chuckled, aware that she was more then guilty of that particular sin. The humor was short lived though at the mention of the run aways, and she stepped further into him. Dragging her chin along his shoulder before resting her cheek against the pulse on his throat. Many males had left, leaving behind children and mistresses. She didn't understand, not fully. Had they really been given such a horrible life here?

"Are you happy here?" Her voice had sobered, and that pupiless gaze stared out within the surrounding trees that lined her nest. He seemed happy, or at least she thought he did, but the others.. Some of them had seemed happy as well. Did the others mistreat their pets?

There was a long pause as Cabriole thought, eyes tightening slightly, "I'm... Not... That I'm aware of anyway -- None of the males seemed hurt, I never saw them physically damaged.. Celaeno seems a bit rough, but not really abusive abusive.. And her stallion seems to still be here."

The warm colored stallion then smiled, tipping his head in and nuzzling against her, "But... I really, honestly am happy.. And content here.. I know that I have no rights, and that you may change your mind about me some time and I'll end up somewhere else within the flock.. But for now, I'm content in being here, where I am most useful, and capable of learning about your culture... And be a part of it, as your pet." he tipped his head slightly, brushing his jaw lightly across the top of her muzzle.

The harpy mare bobbed her head, nodding in agreement and understanding. "Yes, Celaeno can be hard, but she has never been cruel." Of their herd, the two commanders were perhaps the most ruthless of them all, save only the queen, but both trophy stallions had remained. It didn't make sense in her mind, though unlike the males among them, the flack was all she knew. There was no life before her sisters, and there would be no life after them.

It was all rather unsettling, and try as she might to put her worries at ease, they crept up every now and then. Of course, she'd never asked Cabriole before if he was happy with her, with the flock. Perhaps afraid of his answer, afraid of what certain answers would mean. She shouldn't have worried though, his reassurances making her smile. "You have more rights then most, my honey stallion." He nose tipped up at the brush, slowing that soft drag so his chin would linger on her longer.

Lips pursing, the mare quieted for a moment, mulling over a thought that come to her some time ago, but had grown with time. "Cabriole?"

"It's odd, though... One of the stallions gone, from what I've been told actually had helped protect his mistress of the time" Cabriole chuckled slightly at the thought, eyes closing. Perhaps for most it was simply the fact they hadn't chosen to be there, but he on the other hand had decided to stay in the flock before they even moved to their new home. Even if it was tantalizingly close to the Summer territory of his old home, this was his home now.

He almost missed, lost in his own thoughts, the soft questioning tone of Zahraa's voice as she spoke his name, "mmn? Yes?"

PostPosted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:18 pm

She listened as he spoke but she didn't respond. She didn't understand it, and dwelling on it wasn't going to help that much, besides, she had other things on her mind begging to be voiced. An ear dipped back she wondered how best to say things, easing into what was likely an interesting realm for the male. Nothing gentle came to mind, so perhaps bluntness was the right way to go in this instance.

Dark talons flexing to dig the tips into the earth beneath her feet, she rose up on her toes so she could bump her head once again against his chin, tipping her nose back to drag her cheek along his jaw and down his throat. "I want babies."
